Looking to jump back into the game. Looking for a highly populated server( if one exists). If you know of a website that tracks this information, please post.

Cannith is solid.

No websites track it anymore because Turbine removed the code or hooks for that. In the old days I guessed that each of the original servers had 20,000 active players, but now I am down to 10,000.

Orien is the current default server, so all new players go there if they don't choose one. The default server almost always has a huge bump.

These are my guesses per server now due to attrition.

The last original servers are, if you want players that have been playing since 2006, choose one of these servers.

Sarlona if you speak chinese this is the server for you. The Chinese are very good players.
Thelanis At one time the plan was to make this the default European server(decided by the european players) too bad Turbine disagreed. good mix of all nationalities
Ghallanda When the european servers went kaputski, this is where the europeans went. If you speak Korean this is the server for you. Again, the Koreans are very good players. good mix of all nationalities
Khyber good mix of all nationalities
Argonesson good mix of all nationalities

My guesstimate is that each server has approximately 10,000 active players. Not all on at the same time though.

In 2009, Cannith Server was born. Turbine claims 5,000,000 new accounts were made. Because of the demand, Orien and Wayfinder were born during the year 2010. In 2010, Warner Bros jumped on the bandwagon and acquired Turbine. Many of the original Turbine staff cashed in their lottery winnings and left the company at this time. Warner Bros also turned most of Turbine to work on the great new game, Infinite Crisis. IC attracted such a large playerbase, something like 1,000 players, that, Wrner Bros pulled the plug on IC in about four months after launching it.

Cannith my guess is that there are 7,000 active players. When the game went F2P, Brazilians flooded this server and some of the other servers. good mix of all nationalities

Orien before it was the default server it was probably down to 4,000 active players, now I will give it a boost to 8,000 active players because it is the default server. I have not played on this server enough to give an opinion. Caveat, once Orien loses default server status, I will expect it to drop down to where it was, something along the lines of 5,000 active players.

As always, the graveyard is Wayfinder. 1000 active players? Pretty much the entire server is in one guild.

Full disclosure I consider Ghallanda and Cannith as my home servers and I am currently playing on Khyber to get my Turbine points.

There is probably one of these requests per month. If search works on the forums you can do some more work to determine.

Warning, as always, this is my opinion and my opinion only. Based on my playing experiences and I have no numbers to back it up.

The last time we actually saw any actual numbers was April-May.

On 21st April straight after an update:

Guessing there's been another server restart today because these are the numbers now:

Orien 497
G-Land 468
Argo 463
Khyber 398
Cannith 375
Sarlona 365
Thelanis 365
Wayfinder 139

The reason Sarlona is low on this list is that the servers came up in the afternoon and Sarlona has a major Chinese population that plays in the mornings UST and GMT.

The last time I was able to check:

15:20 GMT Monday May 9th

Orien - 167,342
Argo - 118,406
Sarlona - 109,937
G-Land - 106,142
Khyber - 104,985
Thelanis - 99,994
Cannith - 92,611
Wayfinder - 37,925

Orien averaging around 9k log ins per day {24 hrs}.
Argo averaging 6.6k per day
Sarlona, G-Land, Khyber, Thelanis and Cannith 6k +/- a couple hundred
Wayfinder 2k.

Those numbers are log ins counted during that period.

Orien was the default then and is still the default so should still have a significantly higher pop. than any other server.

Prior to being the default Orien actually had a smaller pop. than all other servers bar Wayfinder - The jump from becoming the default is massive and the loss afterwards because most newbies won't last two weeks is equally as massive.
Orien has had the default for 3 months+ now and will probably lose it soon.
Considering the Devs tend to choose the weakest server {except Wayfinder} each time they change the default expect Thelanis or Cannith to be next.

All you have to do is look at the first page of general discussion to realize the population's gone way down. We used to have all 'today' on the first page, and now we have threads from two days ago on it. Yes, I know not everybody posts on the forums, but the people that do seem to have dropped off.

Sad, really. This forum used to be hopping with activity.

Hey I was recently in the same situation. I hopped around a few servers and found Orien to be the most active. Fair warning though, all of the servers are pretty sparsely populated. A server merge is probably in order soon. Another consideration is your level. Currently I have found levels 12-18 to be the most difficult to find groups for. Hope that helps. :D

Your numbers "feel" about right, but what is the source of your estimates? Perhaps you can provide links to the threads you are quoting?

As a representative od Wayfinder I have to add one thing. Although it is literally a graveyard and there are far less people playing. Wayfinder has one big ?: the lag is far less than on other servers :-)

You see the little arrow next to my name in those quotes - Click it!

Those aren't estimates btw they are actual numbers that were collated by YourDDO before the person who looks after that site found it was too hard on his server {I think that was his reason for stopping} to continue doing so.

Previously there was also the DDOracle that showed graphs of server pops but the last graph is I believe almost two years old now {the date on it was updated by someone but the graph wasn't updated.} so it's not much help anymore.

Maybe in future we will get numbers again but for now I can only go by the numbers on YourDDO between April 21st and May 9th that I personally copied down in that thread I quoted at that time.

The only place currently tracking any kind of numbers for DDO is steam.

http://steamcharts.com/app/206480#1m

The numbers there don't break down into individual servers, but there are currently less then 200 people on average playing DDO at any given time on steam. It's pretty depressing even if you only consider it to represent new-ish player population levels. Goat Simulator currently averages over 400 players.

Steam only counts players playing through steam.

I highly doubt a majority of veteran player plays through Steam. I do not use Steam, so I am not counted. How could Steam count me? Do they know me? There is nothing on my machine from Steam.

I don't use Steam either and will NEVER use Steam!

Steam numbers don't matter one jot because there's easily 200 players on Cannith alone right now!

As I pointed out, it only really represents "new-ish" player populations. However, only having >200 people using Steam to play DDO at any given time is still pretty sad considering how many people use steam. (Between 7 million and 10 million users online.)

It doesn't give total player populations, but it's been tracking it's own usage for 4+ years now and is a good indicator of how many new players are being attracted to the game.

*facepalm*

How can someone argue with that logic.
