View Full Version : Shard Exchange Bug

Has anyone else seen this bug or knows what to do about it?

The Facts:

Fact 1: Attempting to post an unlocked, unbound +2 STR tome on the shard exchange. After placing the tome in the appropriate box I can set a starting price but not set a buyout price - my number pad is locked into mouse look mode shifting my POV as I press numbers and the numbers at the top row of my keyboard just trigger the associated hotbar effects I have set up.

Fact 2: This does not happen in the Auction house. Prices can be set as expected.

Fact 3: Once, after relogging I was able to set the prices but only BEFORE I put the tome into the box to identify what I was selling. Thinking I had solved this riddle I pressed "Post Auction" and then the window hung. Did absolutely nothing.

The Plea:

Anyone have any ideas on what to do about this? I put a ticket in and I was told to go to tech support because they couldn't help in game. I am trying here first as I don't think I will get much joy from tech support.

IIRC you can't put a shard buyout value on any items that can be purchased from the DDO store.

yes, you are not able to set a buyout price on the astral shard exchange for tomes, you can only set the duration and starting bid for the auction.

although I am not sure it is related to the item being purchasable from the DDO store as vyvy3369 says; this restriction on the astral exchange applies to:

1. ability and stat tomes
2. raid timer bypasses
3. omnispell dust/stones
4. crafting essences
5. hair dyes
6. siberys dragonSHARDS (applies to flawed/imperfect/siberys/exceptional/flawless; siberys dragonshard fragments can be sold with a set buyout price)
7. hearts of wood

I am going to test this out right now and will update - does anyone else have experience knowing these 'restricted' commodities on the astral exchange?

certain other items like the jeweler's tool kits (which are sold in ddo store) can be posted with a set buyout price.

Yeah, I've read before that it is related to the item being available in the store as well.

Thanks for the replies. Pretty stupid restriction, I would think. What is the point? I am selling random drop loot I can't use - the store is supposed to supplement that not restrict it.

Oh well.

The current conjecture is the restriction is likely in place so in game earned tomes cannot be sold immediately at prices which undercut store sales prices enough where it starts to dip into store generated profit. If this is true this doesn't take into account those people who would buy it at ASAH price who refrain from buying it at store price. It also fails to take the principle of seeding the market at the low end into account.

What they should be doing is allowing buy out to be set, and monitoring what the reasonable price is in the player economy, then pricing tomes accordingly. Since shards are sold for points and points are sold for money, this would allow them to gain a better understanding of what the optimal price point for tomes is through merely monitoring their own in game economy. A 1 point/sprint operation here would serve to gain much insight on how much the entire player base feels this stuff is actually worth.

More likely would be that drop rates would be adjusted such that the game value made the store price viable.

You can have the tome for 30 Astral Shards, Jot. I'll give it to you next time I see you in game.
