How about an assassin with 2 lvls of warlock? Assassinating, and killing them with your nasty aura....

Any thoughts on this?

With 2 levels of warlock the aura won't do much damage but will still do a small amount of aoe making it hard for you to control aggro with almost no upside to it. I think assassins are best pure but if you want to splash I wouldn't use the aura.

That's right, AND the aura would have the side-effect of spoiling your assassinate EVERYTIME (pretty sure the attack has to land as a sneak attack in order to succeed, but I might be mistaken).

Think about what you give up and what you gain.

Gain: One aura tick every 5 seconds for 1d6 + 1d4 (can be increased to 3d4 with enhancement points)

Lose: 2 dex, 2 int, 10 MP, 4d6 SA, 4 reflex and 2 assassinate DC.

If you wanna do it for flavor, then knock yourself out, however the aura comes at a VERY steep price in this case.

Doing rog 18 instead of pure on any Assassin build means giving up +5d6 SA, +10 Melee Power, +5 Reflex saves, and +5 Assassinate DCs. [You also lose your rog 19 bonus feat, but I don't consider than important.] So: it's a fairly significant hit.

In exchange, you gain...what, exactly? An aura which ticks every 5 secs for d6+d4 dmg; let's be generous and presume you hit 600 Spellpower, that's still only (6 * 7 * 1.3) / 5 = +10.9 DPS. You could add another +2d4 Pact for 7 APs into TS, but that's still only +20 DPS; and that's assuming no-fail DCs on Pact saves, which is hardly a given. So I think we can agree that would be meaningless in epics and is a poor ROI over staying pure. 2 APs into SE gets you Taint the Blood, which debuffs your targets' Fort saves; but since stacks max at 4, that doesn't even make up for the +5 DCs you gave up by splashing. :(

So what about the defensive benefits? You could pick up +19 PRR, +15 HPs, +6 MRR, and +3 AC for 13 APs. However, most of those bonuses only apply while your aura as active; and as pointed out, having a constantly ticking AoE plays hell with your aggro, which is the last thing you want on an Assassin.

I chuckled at the thread title, but I'm not seeing much upside here.

Am I here to amuse you.... Yes I am !

I decided on 18 rogue/ 1 fighter/ 1 arti. Just to really get Improved precise shot and Improved critical ranged by lvl 21. Gives me a pretty solid ranged option to go along with twf and assassinate.

With murderous gear available, I don't really feel like my assassinate ability has suffered much.

Think my Ap's are something like 44 in assassin, 11 in mechanic, 24 acrobat, and 1 in human for damage boost.

The hunt for the ultimate (rogue, all others are inferior ) build continues....

Thanks gents.

Right, your assassinate ability will not take to much of a hit between 16-25 baring some elite quests in heroics and epics. I have a lvl 24 6 w/ insight 2. However, come later epic elites you'll find you DC missing more than you'd like it too. However, the SA die and 10 melee power power alone aren't worth it, imo. that's just a whole lot of damage to be giving away to do something mediocre that you'd already be doing mediocre.
