View Full Version : That button on the Who tab ...
"Show only players looking for group" ... Most players don't use this LFG icon.
Yesterday I saw a new player in the Harbor with the icon above his head and it was like seeing a white whale, I hadn't seen one in months!
I'm trying to find ways to increase the number of people who join my PUGs but it's hard. My LFMs are fairly standard "Elite BB" on heroic quests but even when there's over 20 people in that level range, I don't get a hit. Sometimes I get desperate and send tells to everyone asking them whether they're interested. Very often when they reply, they say don't have time, they're about to log off. Where are the people who are actually playing the game?
This LFG button is useless. Please remove it or replace it with something better. I'm tired of having a common LFM up for 30-60 mins and still being forced to solo.

I hear you and It's not you, it's me. Unfortunately, I spend an inordinate amount of time standing in the cargo hold of our guild ship trimming gear from the inventory of characters.
I'm sorry I wasn't there for you.

I would say go back to the old dungeon UI system. The change to the new one has only brought one thing, that being the ability to post lfm for wilderness areas and brought many negatives, ghost lfm being the worst culpit.

There has been a cool suggestion about improving the grouping system which I'm not going to search for right now (I think it was in a thread about how Summoning Chamber in Mabar could work), but I'm gonna highlight the main points:
- The players can select various quests and raids that they are interested in running
- Each selection is paired with a minimum party member number that is greater than 1. This number represents how many people the player would like in that quest.
- Since each selection has a different member number, the game will use the average of all the selections rounded to the nearest integer. The average would be calculated each time a new player declares interest in running the quest.
- Once a quest has a number of players interested in running it equal or greater than the average, then all those players are notified of the group forming and are prompted to accept or decline the group forming. The leader of the group is the first person that declared interest for this quest.
- There are cases when multiple quests containing the same party members reach the average. To prevent that from happening, the declarations of interest are prioritized from the player (the player declares quest 1, quest 2, raid 3, quest 4, etc.) and serialized when coming in the game server so it is clear which quest filled first.
- Once a player is prompted to join a group all their declarations of interest are temporarily removed one by one and the averages for those quests are recalculated. Once a player joins a group, the removal becomes permanent. If the player does not join the group, the declarations are reapplied.
- There are some problems that would need a special UI. When the players are prompted to join a party, they need to see all the other players' names and how many click accept. It would need a UI like PvP.
- The other problem is the level range cannot be manually set with the above rules. Maybe if the rules become more complex, but for now this would only work if everyone wanted to run the quests on elite at level.
- And the biggest problem is that this would require developing a new elaborate system from scratch which I doubt the current devs can do.
This system would allow players to express interest for more than one quests which is a serious problem in today's game. If you see an LFM saying "Any quest at level 13", you are probably not going to join if you only need a couple of quests from level 13. The above system would gather a bunch of people that have the interest of running the same quest without excluding them from other possible quests before joining the party to start the quest.
Say that you are level 21 and have a bunch of quests in your mind: Cannith quests, sands quests and eveningstar chain. You have to decide for which chain you'll put your LFM up. And if you decide to go with sands quests, you may miss some people that wanted to run cannith quests but won't follow you in sands or people about to run eveningstar quests.
You could do something similar to that today by activating the LFG button with a list of the quests you wish to run in the comment. But noone uses the LFG as you said. If more people used it, the above system would not be needed.
