Why would I want to do that? I can still play the game and enjoy it. The cost for VIP is negligible (for me) and I'm not going to easily replace the entertainment hours I get from DDO with something else for the same cost. Plus, there are plenty of multi-class build ideas that I have and have not yet even tried. But I promise that if I run out of ideas and can get as much entertainment from another source for approximately the same cost, then I'll drop DDO immediately just because you think I should!

What evidence do you have to support this claim?
In my own personal click of friends, 13 of us played DDO. Everyone else in my click of friends has now left, and most left angry.
There have also been many posts here from people who who have shared their cancellation confirmations (guess 100).
When I do login to check the store dysfunction, its usually a ghost town.

Still inaccurate to save "most have canceled VIP accounts". Most would imply you could give an exact number or percentage. If you believe the forums DDO was going to only last 3 months after launch. Then it was going to be Age of Conan was the death of DDO. Next Lord of the Rings Online was going to be the end of DDO. After that Neverwinter Nights. DDO appears to be the most played dead game around.
I have two accounts in my house, neither cancelled nor will they be cancelled because this is the most closely resembling the Dungeons & Dragons that a good number of us played in our youth (80s & 90s).
I didnt say it was dead.
But if they dont get their act together soon, it is doomed.
They have again wasted another day without addressing much of anything.
It should start there addressing these issues.

so a sample size of 13, eh. and seriously, don't believe someone when they come to the forums griping and 'claiming' they've cancelled their sub. they want attention and a pat on the back.

What act do they not have together?
Have the acknowledged the lag issue? Yes
Have they made attempts at address issue? Yes
Have they closed the issue as complete? No
If you are this dissatisfied with them, don't log in. You are not going to get your hand held and babysat with spoon fed answers regarding the DDO Store and Windows XP issue or a step by step of the lag fix. There is only one party making you miserable, you.
all im saying is that 92% of the poeple I know have left. Those are the only ones I can confirm.
And what they wanted was bugfixes and new content.
I dont know how many of the 100 or so other claims are actually true. They really seemed genuine.
There are likley others that didnt waste the time to post here. As I stated, it is usually a ghost town when I do log in.
All anyone seems to be able to do these days is shut down the threads that make them look bad.
There are very legitimate complaints from paying customers that should be responded to.

i just canceled vip seeing a Turbine employee censor every thread discussing the health of the game and posting that maintanance mode will announced soon:
If there ever was an announcement of this importance, it would certainly not be made in response to a thread designed to further fighting and insults.

You do understand that the reason those threads were closed was not because it was about the health of the game, right? Have a nice day.

Seriously? Will DDO go on forever and never die? No. It most certainly will end at some point. As do all online games. This was a given from the day it started. Eventually it would end. Stating the obvious fact that all things end at some point and when they do, they will be announced with the importance that they deserve does not in any way suggest that it will happen "soon". You invented the "soon" part all on your own.
Have a great time with whatever you do next since you cancelled your ViP.

Fair point. But if you cancel your ViP sub after a long time, you probably haven't purchased the races and classes and content needed to continue playing. I know if I cancelled mine, 3/4ths of my characters would be unplayable. And I'd have very little content to play them in, so unless you are cancelling your ViP to turn around and spend money buying all the things you need to keep playing, it seems like the cancelling of the sub is a precursor to leaving the game.
Of course, it may be different for others, since i have had a ViP sub since 2008. So I've never bought anything that ViP's get for free. If you started free then went premium then sub, you might have bought some stuff while premium and be able to play without the ViP.
The assumption I made that cancelling your sub suggests you are leaving the game "soon" is a much more likely extrapolation than Cordovan saying "If something like this happens we will give it the attention it deserves" can be extrapolated to "soon".

I'm in this boat. I cancel VIP, I don't have access to most of the content which means I'm not playing. I'm not going to cancel VIP than turn around and spend a bunch more money to continue playing. Seems pretty silly to me, especially if I'm threatening to leave the game or not spend any more money until my expectations are met. Some may have built up VIP points, cancelled than bought content before re-subbing. I've seen suggestions like that to save a few bucks.
I can understand why some people would cancel. If you aren't happy with a product than it makes sense to stop spending money on it and it also can show that a customer is unhappy with the product. Hopefully though, these actions and the feelings of the player base are being forwarded to those that made the data center move decisions most likely above Turbine's head.

IF your fed up to the point of cancelling your vip you cancel, take a break from the game and play something else for a couple months and check back then and see if the lag problem has been fixed..if so you resub if no then not.
Simple heh?

Got a lot of friends canceled their VIP, got a few who have walked away for good already.
I am cancelling my VIP tonight... Gonna walk away sometime in the next two weeks if this is not fixed...and I think it is not going to be fixed.
I think we are in our virtual bucket and they are not going to put and more resources into it...just fiddle with the settings a little to make it look like they are doing something until enough quit to where the bucket is not so crowded for those few left...

Don't people ever consider just taking a break rather than going all extreme and quitting or canceling their VIP.
The lag since the data center move is certainly frustrating, but hopefully not permanent. I am playing less for the moment, but when they fix it I'll be back playing more.

My two cents. I think they are trying to flush out the entitled folk. You know the ones that's been here for a very long time, that feels since they have been here for a long time; then the game owes them something. I guess its the same as the great biblical flood. But in this age flooded with lag.

If you truly love this game, then I'm sure you won't quit. But it's a personal choice. I believe it's part of our issue that we can't see how others suffer. I'm sure there is a reason why people willing to quit or cancel subscription: maybe they don't want to pay when they can't play?. Anyways, I also think that coming here to argue or notify everyone that they are quitting does nothing, but apply negative imagine. Some people do that with a hope that.. someone will care for them. But in the reality... it's just temporal feeling. If people really want to quit. Then they should do so quietly. As you can see from the first page, no one cares.

A. There is a problem. Apparently the devs need feedback on what it is since they have asked for it.
B. Expressing dissatisfaction with a product is not a bad thing.
C. People who are quitting are comisserating: it is not all about the game, it is about the people having their favorite game going into the trash proverbally.
D. I'm honestly sorry you or anyone else feels bothered by the negative attitude but its a byproduct not a prime cause. No one wants to be dissapointed. So that brings me to ...
E. It gets old watching people complain about people complaining, and this statement is itself recursively silly!~

A. There is a problem. Apparently the devs need feedback on what it is since they have asked for it.
Yes, I know. They will apply changes soon, but those are not 100% fix, but what turbine think "will help" to minimize the lag. So, that means.. There is something else still missing.
B. Expressing dissatisfaction with a product is not a bad thing. It's not a bad thing. But arguing about quitting and trying to convince people do the same is bad.
C. People who are quitting are comisserating: it is not all about the game, it is about the people having their favorite game going into the trash proverbally.
But in most cases, it's all about the game. Some people quit due to real life or they found better game to enjoy. But coming here to announce people that they quitting does nothing beneficial.. except, this community has different mentality.. some people are aggressive. It's not well appreciated (if I put nicely), that's why devs lock or even delete goodbye threads.
D. I'm honestly sorry you or anyone else feels bothered by the negative attitude but its a byproduct not a prime cause. No one wants to be dissapointed. So that brings me to ... Take a look at the history and this thread.. Do you see people discuss facts intelligently? People just enjoy drama... I don't point fingers at anyone, but you can easily spot it.
E. It gets old watching people complain about people complaining, and this statement is itself recursively silly!~ People just need to learn how to take criticism in proffetional ways rather than personal. The question is... Complaining about what. I don't want to say what Cordovan said "Some people" with sarcasm. Maybe those some people are right, it's just... There are things that are acceptable and obviously wrong.. I think it's our duty to spot it and direct people into the right path.

And people think the fears of maintenance mode are tin foil hat stuff. The "hard core" DDO fans are the ones they've been flushing at a 33% clip for 4 years. I'm not sure what sort of hard core player you're talking about. Hard core players who don't feel passionately about the game or the level of quality? I'm sorry but I don't know any definition of Hard Core fan that translates into meek herd animal. Hard core fan generally doesn't mean "the easy to please ones" Surely you mean to say: casual less invested somewhat disinterested players will be the only ones left standing?
Hard core are people who care the most about DDO, they keep playing because the core game is fun despite the fact that they keep dropping the ball.
IMO they are running DDO like they want EVERYONE to leave...

Hard Core player can mean a lot fo things. None of them do translate as a herd animal, true, but neither does it translate as someone chronically dissatisfied by everything. And a great part of the complaints come from people who complain about everything, which is no great surprise, since they do complain about everything.
Fears of maintenance mode may be real for some people, but for others its just a way to foment panic. This doesnt mean you by any means, since i do believe that you are sincere in your complaints, even though i often disagree with them.

There is always alot of crying wolf on the forums - not that this isn't a legitimate issue - it is. This is something that Turbine is working on and obviously a huge problem and they realize it. Not sure the point of being so dramatic when they are actively working on it.
Yes I will pay for VIP while taking a break. (sarcasm) lol
I would think many people choose the best deal which is $99 for 15 months. As far as I know there is no benefit to cancel VIP if it expires a long time away unless you are sure you won't be playing again. For the people paying 50% more to pay buy the month I can see that they might cancel while waiting.
