Trying to help a person who installed the game on his laptop with an AMD E300 APU, 4 GB RAM, and Windows 8.1. He gets the game installed and can get to the login screen/character creation but he has no cursor. He went into the system settings and turned everything way down and he still has no cursor that appears on the screen when going through character creation. As such he has uninstalled the game. He is able to play Neverwinter MMO if I understand him correctly, so I am curious as to what may be the issue here. As such I am trying to troubleshoot his issue via a forum site we are both on so my knowledge of his system is very limited. I am doubling checking what he has for RAM since the APU may be pulling too much of what limited system RAM he may have and could be affecting the overall graphical performance of his laptop. Additionally I am also confirming whether or not he can play Neverwinter on the laptop too.
Any insight at this point while I am gathering additional information about his laptop would be greatly appreciated.

I remember reading something like that a long time ago as a Vista Issue.... if I remember correctly, it happened in full screen mode, but in windowed mode the cursor was visible. It was something about how the cursor is being rendered (and that is when I skipped down some lines).
Anyhow, the solution was to change how windows treats the mouse cursor, try going to 'printers and other devices' in the system settings, find the mouse, rightclick and select 'Properties', and in the tab Pointer Options there should be 'Visibility'. Try deselecting anything that might cause it to be hiding. No idea actually if it happened past Vista, but worth a try.

Thanks Nyata I passed the information along. However I asked a couple of more pointed questions about his laptop and was also sent a copy of the DX Dialog file and after reviewing that I found that the largest issue for him to game on the laptop is the CPU installed. Nothing wrong with APUs. they have come a long way in the last 5 years. However his CPU within the APU chip is running at 1.3 GHz at best and when the GPU starts pulling memory it can pull up to a max of 2GBs of his system RAM. The CPU is too weak for the system in that as a low end APU chip like this should be running at 1.8GHz minimum in my opinion to be effective. As such the laptop would also be better suited to have 6 if not 8GBs of RAM to deal with the GPU section of the APU pulling memory for graphics. Right now the trend appears to be manufactures are putting low frequency CPUs/APUs into laptops and selling them cheap yet market them as an ideal almost do all device. Was similar to what they did with Vista machines and selling them with only 1-2GBs of RAM.
As such I told him if he wants to game what he should be looking for in a gaming laptop that can be cheap but needs to meet certain requirements. As such some of the other games he mentioned like Neverwinter do not play very well either. None the less thanks for your response.
