View Full Version : Self-Healing Halfling Mechanic For New Players

:D An 28 points build without VIP races or classes that is viable from level 1 to 30 and can selfheal. No tome is needed for the levels 1-23 and at level 24 a +2 DEX tome is required that can be gained for free from earning 1750 overall favor.

- The one level of cleric lets one use Wand of Cure Serious Wounds (House of Wizardry in House Jorasco or Object Desire in House Phiarlan). Those are great for cheap heals between fights. As you start with only 8 WIS (abillty points are scarce on newbie builds) you can't use them in Krothos, but once you can use a airship and a +WIS Item (habor quests onward) you can use the cleric level one spells.
- Use Magic Device is easy to boost on a Rogue and grand access to useful scrolls like "heal", "Greater Heroism", "Greater Restoration", "Raise Dead", "Invisibility" and "Teleport".
- Healing Amplification and Wand and Scroll Mastery improve the use of healing pots, wands and scrolls on yourself. "Devotion“ boosts the Dragonmarks in heroic levels and in epic levels the amount “Cocoon” and “Sacred Ground” heals.
- For the feats “Combat Archery” and “Improved Sneak Attack” a DEX of 21 is required. This build gets 19 DEX from starting points and ability raises. Items and ship buff do NOT qualify for feats and a +2 DEX tome is needed to get this feats. A free +2 tome of choice is rewarded for 1750 overall favor. (Talk to he Drow Nyx Durandimion located in The Harbor outside the Harbor Master's house.)
- About your own traps: Improved Traps is a great enhancement to take as it boosts the difficulty check of your self-made traps to the value of your disable device skill. With a disable and an insightful disable item equipped, Greater Heroism and Shipbuffs running, +5 tools and an exceptional bonus to INT skills selfmade traps can reach DCs over 100. Traps are made at the Device Workstation on a guildship, in house Cannith or Eveningstar. Trap parts scavenged from traps in dungeons are needed and Vials that you can buy from the Free Agents Vendor when you have enough favor. The best traps are magical traps that need a magical scroll too. I prefer web traps made of web scrolls (Morna Wyrmtouched in the Marketplace Bazaar and Halt Undead traps (scrolls from the Object Desire in House Phiarlan.

I would build with the presumption that any new player can earn a +2 DEX tome from Favor (http://ddowiki.com/page/Favor#Total_available) by epic levels and thus you should try to find a way to squeeze in Imp Sneak Atk + Combat Archery. Also according to Eth (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/467220-Level-27-perma-haste?p=5717733&viewfull=1#post5717733), Haste spell once again provides same Ranged Alacrity bonus as Blinding Speed, so you no longer need the feat if you can find a ready source of Haste (scroll, pots, friendly caster, etc.). Considering how feat-constrained you are in epic levels, that's a good thing, IMO. :) If you're planning on Div Crusader, consider one of the Good alignments + Blessed Blades for DR-breaking purposes. Finally I would definitely add Pin to your Twist options.

Possible splashes to consider:

Ftr for extra feat(s) and Extra Action Boost
Barb for +10% run speed which stacks with Acro Fast Movement
Cleric to unlock Heal skill (more Pos Spellpower) and access to metamagics (namely Emp Heal)

Halfling dragonmarks are very nice in heroic content.

They are just not worth the AP in epic content, especially if Divine Crusader is your Epic Destiny (ED) of choice. of course, it takes a while to get Divine Crusader maxed out and enough fate points to twist in Consecration and Sacred Ground when you are in other EDs, so you may stick with halfling dragonmarks for a while.

But once you get your EDs mostly done, you will probably want to get rid of that feat, and reallocate all the AP you put into halfling into the much better class enhancements instead.

But again, this is a build for new players, and halfling healing dragonmarks are indeed very useful at first. Just like the elven displacement dragonmark is extremely useful until you can get your hands on some displacement clickables.

Updated the builds with your input. Dragonmarks get switched for more DPS at epic levels now. I say this is one of the easiest FTP builds to play form level one to legendary contend at a first life.

I was thinking that this could be adapted almost directly to a Warforged build. (Taking Wizard at 3 instead of Cleric). Would Mithral Body be worth it with its DEX bonus cap on this build?

for new players, another option instead of cleric is 1 wizard. This lets you take maximize as a bonus feat and it can be used on the dragonmarks (the CLW will hit for about 20 hp+, at least that is what I am finding right now sans ship buffs). Magical training for cocoon so blue bar (sp boosted by INT although cleric gets the feat free also), some utility spells while leveling (and always useful later, like shield for blocking magic missiles) and archmage invisi for 1AP for so many usesful situations.

Warforged would be hard to heal. Bladeforged works great with the reconstruct SLA but isn't newbie freindly as other players won't throw you a heal ever as a robot. Both races aren't FTP. I prefer my ranged toons to be fleshy because of the free healing from AOEs. I use others playes sacred grounds a lot and stay on them while the rest chases after mobs. Stay back and keep shoting them.

I wouldn't take body feats. Insightful Reflexes would do more for you. Getting hit by a damage spell/breath weapon can happen, getting hit in melee should not happen.

Agreed. I was thinking of more of a solo character.

Bladeforged Mechanic is a great solo character, you can use the "Bringing a gun to a knife fight build" that uses paladin levels anyway: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/460624-Bringing-a-Gun-to-a-Knife-Fight (But you want a +5 dex tome for that)

Plus there's the -2 DEX which makes it harder to hit DEX 21 for Combat Archery + ISA without sacrificing INT or CON.

Unfortunately, I have no Iconics yet. I've just returned after a pretty long break. I was looking to make a self-sufficient Warforged build (I mostly solo, don't raid), because I like the aesthetics of the race. I'm fairly bad at playing arcane casters and Artificer hasn't gelled with me either. I was thinking a Mechanic similar to this one, with maybe an Arti 1/Fighter 1 splash would work for heroic leveling, using ranged to avoid a lot of damage (main is AA Ranger), and using repair wands/scrolls.

The downside to this approach (vs cleric) is you don't unlock Heal as a class skill (so 11 vs 23 ranks or +12 Pos Spellpower) and once you reach the point to swap the DM feat, you can't replace it with Emp Heal to boost Rejuv Cocoon.

Rog 18 / arty 2 is the usual split for Runearms, unless you really need that extra ftr feat. Plenty of builds with that split: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/458908-Mech-Repeater-Builds

No biggy :) But just for the record: A warforged mechanic is the opposite of a selfhealing halfling mechanic.

Haha, true, but the build gave me the idea to splash for wanding repairs. I might just respec my Halfling Acrobat to Mechanic and call it a day. I can't really remember where I was going with that build anyway.

In the case of rog 18 / arty 2 builds, I wouldn't bother using charged shots; the RA is just for the free imbues (which helps offset the DPS loss from splashing) and any passive perks which the RA provides. E.g., Tira's Splendor (http://ddowiki.com/page/Tira%27s_Splendor) is good for fleshy builds thanks to heal amp + Deathblock; the free silver DR bypass is nice too.

How does the mechanic stack up against the artificer? My main character is an 18 WF artificer because I wanted trap skills, ranged damage, and self-healing. I have trouble managing my resources and balancing shooting and casting so I know I'm not as effective as I could be. I've been wondering if mechanic would be easier to manage and whether or not it is equally effective for soloing (with a hireling.)

My mechanic was a artificer the life before and I never looked back once. More damage, easier to play and far, far better in endgame:

- The knockdown of Great Crossbows is without a DC
- Webtraps can get very high DCs easily
- Damage is better and easier to maintain
- SP needed for KTA and Cocoon only
- Better bang for the buck action-point-wise

There's no question that Mechanic will out-DPS Artificer; that's always been true, but it became even more pronounced after U25 buffed rogue PrEs. Arty's advantage has always been versatility; but that becomes almost verboten in endgame.

Regardless, rather than digress further in this thread, just go here for all your WF arty needs: https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/386775-Dubbell-O-Seven-casting-ranged-focused-artificer

For a VIP with three pastlives I would go for the https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/461714-Clever-amp-Smart-Agent-Pure-Drow-Harper-Mechanic and just switch drow for gnome. Stay pure and keep blitz up while mobs drop en masse. As enhancement respecs are cheap you could swap some points from harper and assassin to the gnome racial tree and use light repeating crossbows with +1 crit. range. Let us know how that works out, should be good for blitzing. I haven't the gnome race yet.

Cocoon, pots and heal scrolls (with +75% from gnome tree?) should be enough healing for a vet but of cource you can play a pure mechnic in divine crussader too. (LD is just more DPS AFAIK.)

I know it's a year and a half later, but what has changed? Has this ever worked and did anyone succesfully build this? Maybe in march 2016?

Created a 28 point character today (september 2017) on an f2p account to try this out.

I don't understand why you put 2 half points in perform at level 1. Why not 4 points in tumble, instead of 2 points in tumble and 2 half points in perform? Or 2 halves in heal, like you do most other levels? Not using any sonic spells or am I misunderstanding something?

I distributed points exactly as you wrote. Then went into elite quests on Korthos. Couldn't find the traps. Also could not spot any traps, but that is to be expected with that low wisdom. But new players don't know where the traps are, so they are practically blind. I was on snowy korthos, and didn't have any gear at all to start with, so also no +3 search or +2 int goggles or rings. I could not find the traps at the end of Stopping the Sahuagin or the traps for the spikes/blade in Sacrifices. Luckily both can be circumvented so I could finish the quests. Maybe this would have worked if I had maxed int, but I did exactly what you wrote and left int at 16. I did find the boxes in Redemption though. But failed at disarming them a few times with the default tools that you get on character creation. Luckily they didn't blow, so after a few tries I got them. But since you claim nowhere that you can run elite with this build from level 1, no problem. Probably new players won't play elite when they start. Just saying.. When you get gear later on, this might work out fine.

I took cleric at level 3. You get all the level 1 spells at your trainer, so no problem there. But then I went into a tavern to slot the spells you suggested. cure light wounds, nightshield and obscuring mist. cure light wounds was automatically slotted. But the other 2 spells I could not slot. Ability score too low. I left the wisdom at 8 as in your schema. So at wisdom 8, you can not slot any cleric spells. But also, even though it was slotted, I could still not cast cure light wounds. Also because ability score too low.

So why is this not working (anymore) ?

You need at least WIS 11 to use or slot lvl 1 cleric spells. So equip a +3 (or better) WIS item or use Owl's Wisdom wands / potions.

Ship buffs, potions or wand of fox's cunning, potions of heroism, and +5 thieves' tools help immensely.

You can get +2 WIS from ship buffs and then you need only +1 WIS from gear, e.g., Kneeza's bauble.

I have some questions concerning the build:

Enhancements (80 AP)
Halfling (13 AP)
Halfling Luck
Jorasco Dragonmark Focus III, Cunning I
Lesser Dragonmark of Healing, Break out the Leeches, Halfling Guile
Greater Dragonmark of Healing, Halfling Guile

Halfling Luck, Jorasco Dragonmark Focus III, Cunning I, Lesser Dragonmark of Healing, Break out the Leeches, and Guile cost only 9 points. What do I take for a 10th point so I can get Greater Dragonmark of Healing and another point in Guile?

Kensei (10 AP)

Where is the Kensei tree? I'm 12 rogue / 1 cleric / 1 fighter. I have scrolled the Enhancements UI as far to the right as possible and don't see it.

Thief-Acrobat (3 AP)
Staff Control
Fast Movement

Is Fast Movement still worth taking? Does it stack with other bonuses like Speed VI on gear?

At the time BotL cost 2 APs; it's since been reduced to 1. Spend the extra AP on whatever you like, it's just filler.

The Enhancement window can display a max of six class trees (plus racial).
http://ddowiki.com/images/thumb/Racial_action_points.jpg/800px-Racial_action_points.jpg
Click on the caret to the right of the trees' names in order to remove or switch to a different tree. Usually what I do is remove all the trees I know I won't use, then list them in order of how many APs I plan to spend. Because I'm a little OCD about organizing stuff like that. :o

Yes and yes.

Just wanted to say this is a GREAT build, esp for F2P accounts. No special gear necessary (besides a vorpal x-bow, if at all possible), can live on decent droploot and the occasional AH purchase.

I threw one on a F2P alt-opener account, and it became one of my favorite alts, leveled to 10 in less than 2 weeks without even trying. Hard to ignore it to concentrate on my main (but I have, and always will have, alt-itis, so...).

Thx J!

Common wisdom would pro'ly say throw everything extra into Con. +4 pts = 16 Con, win.

However, some players would probably benefit more from a better starting Strength. Halflings are already saddled w/ a 3/4 carrying capacity penalty, so even w/ a nice Str item they're going to be Encumbered very quickly. Time to throw yet another suit of droiploot armour over the side. :p Starting 12 Str would help that immensely.

Or waffle and split the diff - Starting Str 10, Con 15 - unless you've got every last bit of gear planned out every step of the way, it's a coin toss whether or not that extra +1 will help at any given level.

You can get very high bonuses on skills and therefore can do some quest options that that require perform with just one point. And DDO changes often and a lot. You never know when you might profit from sonic spell power. Like you once did with the epic sonic SLAs. I remember my old mechanic shouting epic giants to death.

I assumed players are doing habor quests by level 3+ and can get a bit better gear like a owls wisdom clicky. (They used to last one minute per caster level.) You are right that starting with 8 WIS makes you miss a few things in Krothos, but you can finish everthing there as a mage with just a staff/hechman anyway. At least that was the case years ago. Abillity points are scarce on a newbie build, therefore it is better to concentrate on the main stats. A higher starting WIS is nice for a few levels and more or less useless thereafter. And tome were cheap. You found a +1 on your first levels, people gifted +1 to new players in the habor, +2 were cheap on the platinum AH and I remember even buying +3 and +4 for plat. Those were the days....

Better late then never....: I would go for CON 16 on this build. That should be the best bang for the bug and with a +5 tome it even qualifies for greater Toughness. Or if you don't need the extra healing from dragonmarks you could go human and benefit from the extra feat.

First, thank you for wery fun build! Im wondering one thing, weapon IS GXbow? Why in kensai i choose archery?

My mechanic was a artificer the life before and I never looked back once. More damage, easier to play and far, far better in endgame:

- The knockdown of Great Crossbows is without a DC
- Webtraps can get very high DCs easily
- Damage is better and easier to maintain
- SP needed for KTA and Cocoon only
- Better bang for the buck action-point-wise

Kensei (10 AP)
Kensei Focus: Archery
Extra Action Boost III, Haste Boost III

In Kensai, great crossbows are an "exotic" weapon. Without "Exotic Weapon Mastery", "Kensai: crossbows" only works for light and heavy crossbows - not great crossbows, not repeaters.

o http://ddowiki.com/page/Kensei_enhancements#Core_abilities

So, the idea is that you get ~something~ w/ Kensai:Archery if you pick up a bow at any time in your toon's life, instead of getting nothing.

Thanks for the build.
I'm kinda niewbe, so my question might be stupid, but is this build using Repeating crossbow? And if no, than why - isn't it more DPS?
Can Rapid reload be taken earlier? On lvl 3 for example? Rapid shot at level 6? And Dragonmark at level 9?
Go 17Rog/1Cl/1Ftr and 1Brb for 10% speed?
Is Drow playable for this build?

A bit of a necro, but this thread was linked recently, and imo a valid question should not be left hanging, much less several of them...

(And there are no stupid questions - but those are the easiest ones to answer)

is this build using Repeating crossbow? And if no, then why - isn't it more DPS?
No, Great Crossbow.

And, actually, a GXB is (slightly) more dps. Enhancements aside, the advantage to a repeater is that they spam any special effects like vorpal, tendon slice, feeding, etc. They also spread out the damage they deal more smoothly, while GXB's deliver it in large chunks. However, GXB has that wonderful knock-down effect. So they both have their attractions, and are fairly well balanced.

But one significant reason not to go Repeater is... no spare Feats. What would you cut out? Several important feats are already coming very late - how many get pushed back/delayed even more?

Another is that many of the Mechanic enhancements favor Great Crossbow over Repeaters, giving greater benefits to the former, so GXB, even if it starts ~roughly~ equivalent, grows faster than a repeater does w/ the Mechanic tree.

o https://ddowiki.com/page/Mechanic_enhancements

(Mechanics get Light Repeater proficiency w/ Core 6, and Heavy w/ Core 12 - so at Level 7 you could compare, or pick and choose. The feats are all the same.)

Can Rapid reload be taken earlier? On lvl 3 for example? Rapid shot at level 6? And Dragonmark at level 9?
Sure - as long as there are no requisites preventing it, the order is largely personal preference. If you want to emphasize early DPS over survivability (self-healing), do it.

o https://ddowiki.com/page/Feats#Ranged_Combat_passive_feats

Go 17Rog/1Cl/1Ftr and 1Brb for 10% speed?
Well, 2 problems. One, you're losing the Mech Level 18 Core enhancement, which is strong.

o https://ddowiki.com/page/Mechanic_enhancements#Core_abilities

But perhaps more importantly - you can't have more than 3 classes. ;)

However, generally speaking (i.e. aside from not being able to do it), if you're not going on to Epic play, you wouldn't miss something that comes at Level 20 for long - you're only level 20 long enough to grab 20 Tokens of the Twelve to reincarnate asap.

Now, what you ~could~ do, is grab Fighter 3 (for another Feat and Stalwart Defense (https://ddowiki.com/page/Stalwart_Defender_enhancements#Core_abilities) for 6-9 AP). And even Fighter 6 for yet another 2 feats and Strike w/ no thought (and get it earlier than Level 20!) - and then you'd have more than enough Feats for Heavy Repeater proficiency, and more. But you'd have to dump AP (from assassin?), and you'd lose 1-2 Rogue Special Abilities, and that's starting to become a very diff build.

Is Drow playable for this build?
Sure - you gain Int, which is your combat stat (and another skill - maybe full ranks in Jump?), and +2 Cha = +1 to UMD, which never hurts, but (obviously) lose the DM, and Con - which makes for a squishier build overall.

Also, when you get up into Improved Precise Shot (not until Lvl 18 w/ this build), the shot uses actual 3-dimensional line of sight from your character's weapon - so shorter characters have an occasional advantage in shooting more mobs, while taller ones occasionally shoot "over" a few would-be targets.

The 13 AP from the Halfling tree could go toward filling out Assassin. You could also throw 4 into Warpriest (https://ddowiki.com/page/Warpriest_enhancements)for a ranged Smite (+2[W]) & +15 HP. (Or into Fighter trees if you choose to take more levels there, as mentioned above.)

...

GXBs do more damage per bolt, has a better crit range and crits harder than a repeater. The repeater however has multiple chances to crit, and to proc effects such as those you listed, and more. You can reliably expect more sneak damage per volley of 3 RXB bolts than a single GXB bolt on a rogue even after the GXB getting more sneak dice. Pin/Otto are also less likely to not work from a graze with 2 extra shots to set it off. If you took 2 Art on the side rune arm imbue damage has also improved significantly since the relevant update. GXBs on the other hand does cycle faster with higher % on mechanical reloader, so it's largely offset between the two.

Pre-Ravenloft the balance was pretty dandy, but now with Volley being the prime choice for GXB, repeaters are left a little lacking. The RLXB from Disciples of Rage is still great, just that Volley is an extra notch up for raid properties.

Is there a recommended gear list for this 1-20 build for new players?

C-Dog
03-16-2019, 09:02 AM
There are mech gear lists around - all pretty much of a type. (Usually I'd scrounge up a couple links, but I'm out the door at a stupid hour this Saturday morning, sorry.)

The best crossbows is Divine Artillery (from the Archons pack), but any Vorpal w/ a decent suffix will do fine ("Keen" is always best, but "of Deception" is a close second, followed by Feeding). The end-reward GXB from the Korthos Village end-quest, Collaborators, will get you through the Harbor if need be. GXB's are that strong.

o https://ddowiki.com/page/Category:Great_Crossbows

Beyond that, Deadly/Seeker/Tendon Slice, & +Int once you get to Rogue 6, trap gear.

For this build specifically, you can add a good Devotion/Healing lore item (possibly a swap).

askrj1
03-18-2019, 11:03 PM
Rad2 GXB is cool if you still have ings lying around, but yeh Divine Artillery's generally fine and probably an easier farm.

Before 12/13 there's Leverage at 7, but ToEE isn't a great farm. Also from 6-11 you might better off with a Cannith crafted RLXB before you hit the T5 enhancements. Make sure it's a light repeater because core3 grants proficiency for it, heavy doesn't come till core4.

Correct - 4 from leveling (1, 3, 6, & 9) and one Deity feat.

You absolutely should have seen 2 feat slots at level 3 if you talked to a Cleric trainer (and hadn't taken cleric before that).

If(?) you are describing everything correctly and completely, I'd def submit a bug report, hope for the best.

I was really just looking for something that lets me range and open locks and disarm traps within the bounds of F2P.
I played it to level 3 and the initial enthusiasm about it passed pretty quickly.
Damage so far is mediocre and survivability is bad.

I read about mixing a few levels wizard and picking repeating crossbow, but I'm too fresh to the game to know what I'm doing.
The great crossbow is a bit too slow for my taste and compared to Strimton's Acid Ranger it feels about half as strong.
Also I have to watch my bolt stacks, which is another annoyance.

If the ranger could open locks and disarm traps that would be awesome.
But yeah idk what I'm doing and I don't want to derail the thread.

Level 19 ranger 1 rogue work fine. But at the expenses of your level 20 ranger enchantment core.

This is probably the only time I've seen someone compare an archer build favorably to a Mechanic.

The big advantage to great crossbows really kicks in at level 12. That's when you get +30% Ranged Alacrity (Mechanical Reloader) and double your vorpal range (Sniper), which means the knockdown effect from great xbows will proc more than twice as often at level 12 as they did at level 11. Then you get Expert Builder at rogue 18; that takes great xbows from 15-20/x2 to 15-20/x4 weapons.

But at lower levels, repeating crossbows are probably better DPS, particularly if you can craft or have farmed some of the better named options. Mechanics get light and heavy repeater proficiency free at rogue 6/12 respectively. Alternatively, you can take the heavy repeater proficiency feat at level 3, then swap it out for a different ranged feat later on.

If you did stick with great xbows in early heroics, Leverage (https://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Leverage) is your best option, but ToEE is a PITA to farm at level on a newbie IMO.

If the ranger could open locks and disarm traps that would be awesome.
Tempest Trapmonkey (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/423116-Tempest-Trapmonkey-for-new-players) can be converted to archery pretty easily. Obviously you take ranged feats instead of melee; and invest in Arcane Archer / DWS instead of Tempest / DWS.

Thank you both for your insightful replies, appreciate them.

Played him some more and I guess I just had a bad day or unlucky with server lag.
It has the potential to crit really high. Level 4 and crit a sleeping dog for 95, usually seeing 60 crits and 30ish non-crits.
It's a good build so far, but not as careless and brainafk as the ranger.
Only problem is getting wis gear, Kwen's Band never drops, dropped on 1st run on my ranger lol.
And you need +3 Wis to be able to cast lvl 1 Cleric spells. Owl wand works temporarily but I'm mostly just too lazy to switch.
When doing level+1 stuff I do that though.
All in all life as a ranged combatant is good, unless lag hits and you're getting swarmed.
Cleric hireling is <3.
Anyhow babble babble, thanks again.

When I hover over that choice I see Longbow and it being the favorate weapon but this build uses greater crossbow?

Deity choice is irrelevant. This build only splashes cleric to unlock the Heal skill and gain access to metamagics (Empower Heal). Worship whomever you want for role-playing flavor.

I just hit lvl9, but didn't pick precise shot but rapid shot. I hope I can pick precise shot at lvl12 with fighter, which leads me to...
the need for fighter, I'm guessing because of the 2 picks at lvl12, but I used the .. chargen light tool and pure rogue even gets
Defensive roll at 19, for a lack of better things to pick, or is crippling strike worth it, I'd rather have damage mitigation than -2 STR damage on sneak attacks

And then Cleric for the healing part, why not just cure serious pots?

About wands, when I tried using a wand I had to put it in my hand in then use it, aka 2 hotbar presses and target myself to use it (= 3 keypresses) and another to re-equip your weapon (= 4). In heated situations that's not usable or you have to train yourself to be quick about it or use a macro or maybe there's a trick to it?

Rogue capstone +2 INT and 4 additional sneak attack dice = more dps

The initial post only mentions cure serious wands, idk if cure critical pots exist but apparently wands do, and you need to be a cleric to use them?

There's likely something I don't know that comes in later levels that makes you need self heals that cost mana vs potions that cost money.

Anyhow this is my adaptation of a pure rogue halfling with haggle :D because potions cost money.
Yep and I dropped the heal skill.
And I like jumping really high. Maybe balance instead of haggle, I see people at lvl30 have a few millions of plat so money shouldn't be a big issue and since I don't see any "gold spammers" I'm guessing that money isn't an issue, again ;)
I'm constantly using (and buying) hirelings, getting my crafting level up, have all the initial bags and still 40k plat at fresh lvl9.

And then Cleric for the healing part, why not just cure serious pots?
So the whole point of this build is to have better self-healing than a rogue typically has. It's in the title, after all.

Obviously, anyone can use Cure potions. A pure rogue can also invest in Use Magic Device (https://ddowiki.com/page/Use_Magic_Device) (UMD) which allows them to use wands and scrolls. But it takes a while until your UMD is high enough to be useful, particularly for newbies who don't have all the UMD-boosting gear etc. which a veteran player does. What if that's not enough to keep you alive?

So this build is halfling to take the Dragonmark of Healing and splashes cleric to unlock Heal skill and metamagics, with the fringe benefit of being able to use divine wands too. Not just for Cures but also Resist Energy and any other useful buffs.

The downside to this approach is the AP and feat cost incurred by the Dragonmarks. Pure rogue Mechanic is feat-starved and even a F2P Mechanic wants to spend something like 44 Mechanic / 23 Assassin / 3 Acrobat, which doesn't leave a lot of wiggle room.

If you drop the splashes and the Dragonmark, then you're just another pure Mechanic and those builds are pretty well-documented in other threads (e.g. this one (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/461714-Clever-amp-Smart-Agent-Pure-Drow-Harper-Mechanic)).

but you don't get resist enegry because you're a lvl 1 cleric and you're not using metamagics because you're a lvl1 cleric.

pure rogue is not feat starved, I showed you that it even has 1 more feat available than this 18/1/1 build.
the link you posted requires harper agent, which is not free.

you're also not getting the good stuff from mechanic from lvl12 on because you (as in the OP, which isn't personally you) wasted 2 levels on cleric and fighter and now need lvl14 to get mechanical loader but 1st you need improved detection, which also requires rogue 12.

Drow is a bad choice vs Halfling for pure mechanic because you don't get the sneak attack additional die from the Halfling tree, instead you have more resistance, but it's lower dps ~.
More DPS, less need to survive, faster exp, more favor/DDO points faster.
Or let's rephrase that, Halfing has more damage potential vs Drow having more constant damage and a bit more robustness in saves.
The only good thing Drow has in this context is not starting with 6 str, even 2pt in str to have 8 as a halfing is bad in terms of ability to carry stuff (yeah I want my cake and eat it too).
You can have buff pots to counter that but it's annoying having to think about it, just like it's initially annoying to buy bolts. It gets better with t4 mechanic (ca. lvl8-9).
Drow also requires 400 favor to unlock for 1 server.

The only thing that's useful here in this build is you can burst heal pots/cure light/dragonmark heal for quick heals, because pots have a cooldown, very useful when your cleric hireling is dead.
Depending on wands for heals in "oh ****" moments isn't working, you misunderstood me there.

I'd even consider speccing thunderstone and not lacerating shots because its bleed so far (lvl12) is neglible.
The only area where I saw it being decent, not great, is on giants, but everything is decent on giants.
Having Thunderstone means aoe mez and damage, having some crowd control is always good, you can single out enemies, and it's free.

lvl12 I'm not even using or crafting traps. The only areas where I'm having problems is when the hireling runs into traps and gets himself killed and the only CC I have is the acid bomb + aoe snare.
I'll play it until 20 and see how much favor I have and if I can afford a 2 dex tome. 532 favor so far, doesn't seem like I will.

Revisiting my build I'd put points into heal for pot power if they're affected by the heal skill, if not, then not.

This build is still a strong build but it can be stronger is what I'm saying.

Really like the look of this for a first character on my account with all the content, but none of extra's (premium races, iconics, premium classes, premium enhancement trees, etc).

I have played before so know how to use a good rogue, and like the look of the great crossbow setup with the way things have changed from way back when.

I'll splurge for the Epic Destinies when I get up there, may be able to do it from favour points generated and when on sale (and if not, well a few dollars won't hurt i reckon :) )

If there's any significant changes I should know about, just yell, but I think I'll be able to work it out as i go for anything minor.

Thanks for putting up this build, should be ideal for getting up favour and surviving on loot drops until I can get some resources behind this account.

There are a couple other spins on this build you can try...

Instead of Cleric, go Wizard. 1 AP for Invis, and free Maximize for all the Halfling healing SLA's - boom. Shield and +10 Jump are bonus spells (and you can cast them out of combat and not worry about the ASF). Last spell is dealer's choice - I find Summon Animal I really useful as a distraction/chew toy for mobs, but Obscuring Mist can be good too for a Ranged. Could even try a combat spell like Grease, if you don't rely on it too much - this is (mostly) an Int build, after all.

Early(ish) Barbarian for +10% kiting speed is, of course, a classic. Tough to squeeze it in - you'd have to either abandon the "extra healing" aspect of Cleric (you'd still have the SLA's, just not the wands), or lose the extra Feat of Fighter (and drop... Rapid Shot? Not a huge boost in DPS, esp that late).

W/ either you want to plan out the leveling order to get the most out of the skill points.

I just reached lvl 20 with my first character and I have to say this build is very enjoyable in both solo and group.
I hope this guide will be updated with the new epic destiny trees, in the meantime I'll have to make something up.
Should I still pick Consecration III and Rejuvenation Cocoon for self-healing? Any other advice is welcome.
