Pretty much have to agree with you. Even with warlocks, though we had no new content, we had another update 1 month later. Personally for me an update with no new content is NOT an update.

Try going 12-18 months without an update of any sort. Vast and mysterious are part of the history,but in recent
years the updates have been frequent. Some bring a lot, while don't, be happy the game is progressing.

Correct, everyone is getting that. The Patch has been loaded and you can update your launcher, but the servers are not yet online. This is the way it's always done. Patch gets loaded, have to wait for the testing to be done, then servers go live.

I don't think that means anything, but that error is definitely... different. Likely they just changed something. But perhaps there's an actual error in the patch file. Dooooom!

Just getting bounced off an authentication server/process that was left down intentionally. Ping it occasionally and eventually you will catch it with the worlds up and humming.

Agree this update is smaller. Especially in comparison with the last one. U29 had a 2 level level cap raise, complete new random loot system, a bunch of new epic feats, legendary feats, 3 legendary raids, (one with a large crafting system) and two legendary quests. But the last 6 years standards that is probably the 2nd, or maybe 3rd, biggest update. And the largest that was not an "Expansion pack" requiring extra purchase.

I don't look at each update needing to stand on it's own. I'm looking for Turbine to put forth a more cohesive vision for the game and see that each update supports that long term plan. I'd rather that be the focus than each update needing to have "wow" factor on it's own. Some updates just may not really hit your core interests in the game. I'm not a huge fan of Gnomes. Or halflings, for that matter. Don't like small races. So I'm not really excited about the majority of this update besides the birthday stuff. But that's OK. Some other players are excited and the game benefits from diversity of interests. Personally, I'm still working on the U29 stuff for a lot of my characters. I get, however, that some folks might be bored with U29 stuff already and not seeing anything in U30 to get them excited. Hopefully, U31 will spark their interest.

Absolutely. Just remember we are using our pitchforks and torches to guard the devs against the trolls. They hate fire and if that doesnt work, stab them with the pitchfork/thermometer.

F2p since it came around, vip wasn't worth it (imho)
Spend 50 bucks to get the important packs (on sale) and earned the others by constant tr-ing, farming favor along the way.
Bought the first expansion and was happy i did (though that stupid cat is 1 shot-ed all the time and a waste of development)
By the time the second expansion came around i was eager to shell out the money for, biggest mistake in ddo, couldn't play it for the longest time on most of my toons till prr was introduced.

Seriously I would say that it's about 50-50 based on the people I play with. Personally the minute it was F2P I went premium and in the end it's saved me serious cash, my wife is on the 99/year model. Bought a **** ton of points when they had x3 points sales (never gonna see that again) and managed to get most content at 50% and 75% off (again not likely to see those discounts again) and have everything I need to play happily for a good long time.

I will say though that most of the people I know how play and have played since beta / launch are premium now. The VIP guys who canceled their subs in protest over changes that they didn't like who didn't move to Premium are long gone since they couldn't play much of anything without VIP; they just left and didn't come back.

I think it's silly to assume that "Most players" are anything around here. What is for sure is that we have healthy populations of F2P, Premium and VIP kicking around

Query: How did you afford a sub before F2P, but can't afford one after? Did 15 bucks a month suddenly become more like 150 after F2P? It's not even that for me, 9.99, since I go three months at a time. It's cheap enough that I can stagger two VIP accounts, keeping one paying this month, one next month, rinse and repeat since they autopay.

Why?

You've tried Orien as the Default twice already and it failed miserably BOTH times!

First attempt - Orien is the ONLY Server to gain the default and NOT become the most populated Server since Wayfinder and we all know Wayfinder doesn't count!
Within two weeks of losing the Default Orien is back down to it's pre-default levels again - We have the DDOracle stats from the time to prove this!

Second attempt - Orienites go nuts because of lag and blame it all on the fact that they've been the default server for all of two days!
You take the default away from them and give it back to Cannith which suffers no extra lag at that time {We've had plenty of lag these past two months but haven't had the default in over 4!}.

What makes you think a 3rd attempt will do better?


And why do you keep ignoring Khyber and Thelanis? NEITHER have had the default at any time since Wayfinder was created!

Edit: Third try worked. For those having the same issue, when it worked I didn't even see the "Installing Pre-Reqs" screen, it went from downloading the patches straight to the server selection screen. So maybe just exit and retry if you see that screen instead of giving it 5-10 minutes each time like I did.

Sorry to be the party ****er but in my 6 years of playing DDO I think update 30 is by far the weakest update yet. If you take away the 10th birthday event, which will be gone in a month or less the only thing the update is giving us is the gnome. Cannith crafting has been pushed back yet again because of time issues and there is no new content.

Yes I know people will instantly post that I am just whining and should stop complaining but if they stop and look they will see too that this is a weak update.

I fully agree, Gnomes? Another race/class update that focuses on the magic user. First Warlocks, of which, the one I created is leveling about twice as fast as my main toon... because it can. It's just that much more powerful than my Tempest Ranger. Now a new race that seems custom built to be an improvement to an Artificer or Wizard... yawn. (Or maybe to quote a character from Kung Fu Panda "Lame.")

Plus, opening up all of the festivals (lag production events)... none of which I remotely enjoy, nor think the rewards are worth the play pain, does not inspire me as a "Thank-You for playing our game for the past X years." Didn't try the new dungeon in house P. because the betas were so short, let's hope that makes this update something worthwhile having.

One thing you stuck folks might try--I went into the Launcher's "Options" and toggled "pre-cache gamelogic" OFF. No effect, re-opened Launcher, still stuck, but as soon as I re-enabled "pre-cache gamelogic" it started downloading the update. Update completed while I was typing this.

Haven't been to Thelanis, so cannot speak for it, but Khyber definitely has a good server population and gets enough new commers without being default server. and does not complain about the new people causing lag, but actually welcomes them and keeps them to stay around?

According to the release notes you should get a token auto-granted in your inv, then you exchange that in House P for the gift of your choice.

Special 10th Anniversary gifts can be obtained by trading them for a token in House Phiarlan. Each character that logs into the game during the anniversary event through March will receive a token.
But I received no token, so can not make an exchange.

will not download UpDate 30...when Launcher Box appears and gets to part where it would start installing the NEW Update my computer throws a pop-up window "Do you want App to make changes" which it has always done in past and I choose YES..then DDO Launcher starts installing updates , however THIS time {15 attempts-in-a-row now} and taking a break to type this post...once I click YES the Launcher Box just disappears and I have to re-start from beginning which like I stated above does same thing each 15 FAILED attempts now....ANY ideas/suggestions would be appreciated...................btw I'm sharpening & shining up my PitchFork :)

If you are stuck on the Installing pre-req stage, try the following (I did this earlier today myself)


Click on the triangle in the upper right corner area (between the language and minimize buttons).

Select Options. On the General tab, make sure to click "Retrieve updates automatically".

Click on the Proxy tab. Make sure to select 'No proxy' (unless for some reason you actually use one).

Hit OK at the bottom. Close & relaunch the launcher.

Anyway regarding the update itself, I understand that it can be disappointing to some who are expecting new quests and mechanics. Just because this update doesn't contain what you want though doesn't mean the update in itself is lacking in any way. If my memory serves we've had updates with more fixes and less new quests before, and the devs had their hands full dealing with gnomes plus the anniversary contents. Just because you're jaded about your play style and the update does nothing with that doesn't make the update weak, it just means you're unwilling to muck around with the new stuff, or so much as enjoy DDO as a game. If you ask me U29 was a weak update, not because of the volume of content but because of poor implementation. I'd personally like to see more bug fixes than new content in an update every now and then, maybe then we'd have more time to fix really age old issues that were never gotten around to.

All in all, it's 10th anniversary, and whether you like the update or not we're going to celebrate, with or without you nay-sayers.

EDIT: As to making Thelanis default, a new population would be nice, but we're getting a couple every now and then otherwise, plus as far as I can tell Thelanis has the worst of performance issues at this point.
