Why does hold person/monster work super great for the monsters but hardly works for player characters? Trying to run The Sane Asylum solo both me and my hire keep dying due to not being able to heal because we both keep being Held. Does anyone know a way around this? Thanks in advance.

Freedom of Movement is the answer :)

What is your will save? A low will save = lots of holds. FoM will also help.

Aren't you a ranger?
You get freedom of movement as a spell, stops holds.

Level 19 Monkcher. Yes I have FoM but that doesn't seem to be helping. My will save is +20

Do you have something that gives you Immunity to Slippery Surfaces? It is coded... in a weird fashion, and will overwrite higher immunities provided by FoM.

Wow!
This really needs to get added to the Known Issues List!

Sheesh, is there anything left that FoM actually DOES work on anymore?

FOM does work on hold, the OP is wrong.

Thalone infered that some piece of gear might be nerfing FOM... I think. But, I find if I get held with a FOM up, it's following a dispell.

Nope she is correct. I was running that quest with her both of us on level 18 19 rangers and she is correct Freedom of Movement does not protect you from Hold Person/Hold Monster. It may be bugged on cannith server or it may be bugged in our characters I'm not sure but what I do know is that Yeah FoM doesn't protect us from hold person.

Read Thalones comment again. Items and abilities, that are similar to FoM, can overwrite it, but not neccessarily give you the same protection.
The abiding path in GmoF does this aswell for example. Since you were in heroics a slippery surfaces immunity item could be the cause.
FoM itself does protect from holds.

It protects vs. hold, but not mass hold.
Wearing my FoM boots, with no other effects overwriting it, I get hit with mass hold when I am not the main target. Kinda like how with nightshield you get hit with mass magic missiles if you are not the same target. Doesn't always happen, but enough I wonder if it's mob-specific.

Many casters will spam dispel before casting holds.
This is an item every player should strive to have in their arsenal for Heroic levels.. http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Kundarak_Delving_Boots
...its worth the grind...(never upgrade it to epic though, much more valuable as a swap-in and for TR)
more items are available in epic levels which are worth hunting..

Or give up the fleshy ways and join the master race.. the forged races are immune to holds..

Interesting, thanks.
Can't test that myself, since my toons are immune to holds anyway...

That has not been my experience, FOM has protected against all Hold and Mass Hold. Why the OP is having issue I don't know the slippery surface might be it but my experience has been that FOM prevents Hold and Mass Hold.

Chain missiles is the one that hits multiple targets, and nightshield does not protect against that.

Update 30 release notes:
Warforged gain a +10 racial bonus to saving throws against Holds and do not fail saving throws against them on a roll of a natural 1 (this makes you immune to Holds with a DC of less than 11+your Fortitude save). If you transform into a different type of creature, you will lose these benefits until you return to your Warforged form.
Anyway, this thread got me curious and my gaming time is shot today since I'm going out, so I did some testing in PvP. My Cleric plus a throwaway Barb vs. my Wizard.
My caster casts Mass Hold Monster and Mass Hold Person directly targeting the throwaway Barb. Barb gets held, as expected.
My caster casts Mass Hold Monster and Mass Hold Person indirectly on the Barb by targeting my Cleric. Barb still gets held, all fine still.
My Cleric casts FoM on the Barb. No matter if I cast directly or indirectly, the Barb does not get held. The FoM icon appears overhead; there is entry/die roll in the combat log.
Here's where it starts getting interesting... My Cleric puts on Rock Boots (Slippery Surface Immunity) and casts FoM on herself. As long has been the case, the boots suppress the FoM icon. However, whether I cast the holds directly or indirectly, I get the FoM icon overhead, there is no entry in the combat log. So I can't reproduce the problem described, and it seems like this bug has actually been fixed. *GASP*
I currently have no reason to believe that the monster version of Holds works any differently than player characters', so if you're serious about tracking down why this is happening, posting your enhancements and gear, and quest where this happening (preferably with screenshots of the combat log/buff bar while you're getting held), it would help track things down.
