If you are playing daily or close to it I would say yes. If you play once or so a month, not sure.

good answer - would say if playing several days a week - yes.

Try it for a month or so and see if you like it.

It's a great game. Fun active combat, and not a fetch/kill quest clone like other MMO's.
Give it a shot, and when you get off Korthos you will probably know if you want to subscribe.

If you are enjoying yourself, and are playing a lot, then yes - it's worth it. VIP has a lot of benefits.
However, if you find you are playing less and not enjoying it as much, then VIP is typically not a worthwhile investment.

Hello, if you are going to be a hardcore gamer I wouldn't actually subscribe, you can get everything with some grinding.
I paid the minimum possible money in the past to get premium status and then farmed for turbine points myself doing a bazilion epic past lives (which i've enjoyed), now i have every single pack or anything i can need.

I certainly feel that it is. The amount of content is quite staggering. Like the quote above states, if you find your self playing a lot, $15.00 for a months worth of entertainment is certainly cheap.
Also you get 500 tp each month to play with, save those up for awhile and if you ever feel its not worth the money for how much you play, cancel, and buy the packs with your points. If you find you like it here, you may want to buy the expansion.(MoTU) Epic destiny's for high lvl are a big part of the game.
Hope you enjoy it here and Welcome.

Spectacular, and I hope that you enjoy it even more as your character(s) grow and explore all of the opportunities that DDO has to offer.

If you find yourself coming back regularly, I would recommend some sort of investment, even if it's just enough money spent to get you up to Premium level. Some of the other posters have already linked the account differences, and you can definitely keep it free if you wish, but IMHO the spend is well worth it.

DDO is a great game full of nice people.
If your experience so far is enough to understand that this is "your game" then yes, subscribe.
Otherwise take some more time to enjoy the quests and do not stop if you find some difficulties. DDO mechanics are sometimes very complex and you can get suggestions and solutions by experienced players as well as from the forum.
Do not be shy to ask.

I will agree with the above posters....it is worth $ to subscribe...as long as you expect to play consistently. I've been a subscriber for almost 6 years.

As a side note...it refreshing to see so many positive comments for a change.

Welcome to the game.

Some of us friendlier veteran players don't mind helping out new players with gear you might find useful. You could post your server and your character, or, if you want to remain anonymous that is cool. There are server specific areas of this forum. There is also a New Players Forum where you can read up on questions from other new players or post your questions.

Back in my new days, I played the game for roughly six to seven months before I joined the forums. That was back in the subscription to play days. In 2009 the game went Free to Play. I chose to go Premium around three years ago.

I suggest trying the game for free, and if you become addicted, then contemplate going VIP so you have access to a lot of the game. Sometimes, Turbine offers deals such as 15 months for the price of 12 months($99 bucks American) which is roughly $6.50 per month. Cheaper than a movie.

Never pay full retail here at DDO. Turbine offers discounts quite frequently, you just have to be patient.

This year, DDO turns 10 years old in late February. I expect some really cool deals. But then, I have been wrong many times in the past.

Also, Risia Ice Games/Midwinter Games will be starting up next Thursday(January 21) possibly.

Before I played this game I laughed at the idea of paying a subscription fee to play a game, especially one I could play for free. After 6 years of VIP status, I have no regrets and it was worth every penny. I also buy Turbine points almost every sale and bought both expansions. I can't stop throwing money at this game.

I would say, yes, it is certainly worth it to go VIP.

Welcome.

I'd say subscribing depends on why you play. Personally I play to relax and have fun. So it doesn't really matter how fast I advance. I buy points when they're on sale (and I want to get something) and I own the majority of the content, so there's really no need for me to spend money on a monthly basis.
