View Full Version : When and what can we expect for a cleric pass?

Thoughts?

Even if we don't see a change that puts or brings back the emphasis on healers, the class can be brought up to be on par with everything else.

When is hard but I expect Fighter, Monk, Druid and the classes with only 2 trees (FVS and Arti) to come before Cleric.

The what is likely a bit of rework to the trees (cost adjustments maybe some consolidation) but mostly Cleric domains.

--New Spells...at least five or six of them...maybe these could work: Spell Turning, Desecrate, Polymorph Any Object, Wall of Stone, Gate, Make Whole, Plane Shift, Hallow/Unhallow, Refuge.
--Deities and the SLAs the deity grants to their clergy. Add ~30 deities from both worlds, each with their own benifits. This would only apply to the following classes: Cleric, Favored Soul, Paladin, Ranger

I can see a update, not a rework. Adding Gods is, at least that many just isn't something I think is needed. Maybe one per race. I would like to see some MRR added. Maybe a couple of armor pieces with Sacred on it. Maybe a couple of tweaks on the trees. Since them came out, so much has changed. I really do not want to see Clerics stripped of their "favored" stuff like AA was.

...and I think Deities are needed. They are a huge part of lore in every single Dungeons and Dragons setting. To make them useful and part of DDO, I'm guessing it would take ~500 man hours to implement right. About on par with how much time I think the u29 Random Loot implementation would take (albeit they half-***ed it and probably spent half that time...and with interns instead of knowledgeable employees???...but with the fixes that are coming I think the hours will be had).

Basically what I'm saying--if the devs can spend their time on a randgen loot pass, they can spend time implementing something that will make DDO feel more like Dungeons and Dragons and at the same time give more useful magic to these four classes.

Sev has stated that Cleric Domains are something he wants done (livestream recent IIRC). Also stated Fighter is up next - and I can actually see that in patch 1 (maybe??? 25%) or in U30 with gnome (come on gnome pirate ninjas!!!).

Yes there is the 3rd tree's project, and Cleric and the final AA/DWS/ranger pass.

Finally there is the handwraps/monk pass (which probably will be done together).

I'd expect the imminent producer's letter from the immanent Severlin to explain (with Dragonmarks™ (bullet points)) in simple, straightforward (Severlinise ;p) wording what to expect.

I think there needs to be a new Cleric cosmetic outfit done in the style of a 1960's era nurse's uniform as part of the cleric pass.

Clerics are absolutely brilliant compared to FVS, so hopefully they dont even think about Clerics until after FVS are massively boosted.

FR really needs some additional deities, since besides Morninglords (which are a stretch anyway since I can't see all that many elves worshiping Lathandar (or Amaunator as he became when they resurrected him in 4e), I can't really see the other iconic races solely worshiping him.

Eberron on the other hand is a whole different subject. Unlike Faerun, where for reasons based on the overall cosmology of the setting almost everyone worships a specific patron (or suffers the consequences in the afterlife), if I recall the lore correctly, the gods are significantly more distant, and the pantheons very tightly knit, and in general people worship the pantheons as a whole rather than individual members. as such, we already have all the major non-evil options available to us. Sure they could offer the option of specifying individual members of the Sovereign Host, but I don't really see a major benefit.

I'm thinking spring 2017. Fighter, Druid, Arti, FVS and Monk are all probably ahead in line.

What I'm expecting is the same as other passes. Not a rework, just an update where they basically just buff it with more DPS. I can dream of them giving support roles a place in this game again with a cleric pass, but past passes show they aren't interested in making support builds viable past level 20.

I really wish they'd redesign amey strike and other Warpriest debuff/buff abilities in a way that makes building a buff/debuff centered battlecleric worth it but they'll probably just add DPS to warpriest. I really don't see them fixing Warpriest sadly unless they take the time to completely redesign it's unique abilities. Hopefully I'm wrong and they do take the time. But as is, the amount of DPS they'd have to add to make investing heavily in the tree worth it over a pally/fighter splash I feel would result in warpriest invalidating traditional melee classes.

RS really is still fine as is for party healing, doesn't need a buff, it's just a very weird tree at this point in the game. The role this tree was built around has for the most part been designed out of the game as of a few years ago. If DDO was created under the design teams goals today I doubt this tree would exist. But they'll never remove it since it's always been there. I can dream of them actually giving party healers a role in this game again but I don't see it happening. Seems very clear the devs want everyone to have great self-healing. The tree will probably just stay the same.

DD I expect to see a big DPS buff, especially to SLAs in both damage and lower SP costs, so divine casters can compete with Warlocks.

They did mention domains, but yet to see what they have in mind for that. Maybe that will be cool. Trying to be optimistic but based on my overall disappointment in how much they've homogenized the classes in prior passes it's hard to be.

This. Higher dc's, better slas ,3 trees ,easier sp free healing. Ya I think fvs needs help more. Then arti or monk. Not really sure cleric really needs any help to be frankly honest.

That works for me, leave my clerics for the last, if ever pass!

Here's why I posted the thread, Healing is being talked about in many threads.
eg... https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/469902-Grouping-Bonus-to-Exp-Should-Become-Permanent

If this game has evolved to the point of self-heal is the dominant cure-all, why waste the man power and money to work on a class that's all but obsolete in modern day DDO.

Look at the history of class updates. Cleric is at the bottom of the heap. Most people only play them for the past life on their way to completionist.

How wrong is that? Ever since I can remember people have wanted to play a "battle cleric" And back in the day, BC's held their own, but were shunned for raids, as they weren't "heal-spec'ed".

Ever since Fvs got an update a while back, clerics gathered dust, as they fell further from a player preference, and what skill sets they do have are situational at best.

If we have a development direction that encourages and supports more self-heal, then any attention this class will get becomes a dim light at the end of a long tunnel.

This class has the potential to be a great update to game balance. And thats what the devs are preaching, BALANCE.
Well here's a chance to make a huge step in that direction.

Turbine, you have made some great strides in recent history, and I'd like to see this class moved up the Que for an update.

My cracked crystal ball predicts:

2017, at the earliest.
Probably disappointment if you expect too much.

I really would LOVE this:

--New Spells...at least five or six of them...maybe these could work: Spell Turning, Desecrate, Polymorph Any Object, Wall of Stone, Gate, Make Whole, Plane Shift, Hallow/Unhallow, Refuge.

I will probably get this:

So I'm just hoping for a little love. Maybe a spell or two. Some decent raid loot. Dinner.

I have to disagree with ya here a little bit ferd. I see plenty of clerics floating around. They do everything g pretty good from cast to melee but all the while have access to endless amounts of healing.

Let me ask ya. Where should there dps sit? Better than a barb , pally, ftr? Cast better than a wizard, sorc or warlock? If there dps was better melee or better caster why would I ever play the others with the kind of self healing a cleric gets.

The devs have stated with legendary and possibly reaper mode coming tanks and healers would be useful again. That has been a big part of the game that has been missing since motu. Only time will tell but clerics healing others may be needed again.

By the way they have updated cleric twice since the original enhancement pass. Added warpriest tree then short time late redid dd tree adding all kinds of slas which went there originally.

So that would mean they hit up cleric twice before getting the stupid monk stuff out of ftr or getting arti fvs and druid 3rd trees and updates. Ya I would be bummed if they did anything to cleric at this point.

Thanks, I agree with you, great feedback +1.

I'm trying to raise some more awareness and spark a debate that help facilitate some of the communities sentiments.
