Hi all!

When you add an augment to a crafted item, does it up the MLVL? For instance, if I have a ML3 item and add a blue augment that is ML4, does it raise the ML of the item?

Yes, when you slot the ML 4 augment your item will become ML 4 as well

Yes, it raises the ML of the item to that of the augment.

Sorry, I should have been more clear. Let's say it is a ML5 item. say a sword with +3 enhancement or something. If I add a red gem that does 1d2 and is ML4, does it raise the ML? I know the fact that it has a socket already raises it by 2 (I think), but does putting a stone in add any more if it is BELOW the current ML?

No, in that case your sword will just remain ML 5.

To sum it up, if you put an augment in with a lower ML than the item, it will remain the ML it currently is. If you put in an augment with a higher ML than the item, the item's new ML will be equal to that of the augment.

Nope.

ML 5 item with an augment slot is ML 5.
ML 5 item with a ML 4 augment gem in a slot is still ML 5.
ML 5 item with a ML 8 augment gem in a slot is now ML 8.

In short, augment gems only change the minimum level of the item to the minimum level stated on the augment gem if the item isn't of a higher minimum level than the augment gem; you can't change a ML 28 thunderforged great axe to ML 4 by adding a ML 4 augment to it, but you can change a ML 4 item into a ML 28 item with a ML 28 augment in it.

Just to add, if you decon an item that has an augment slot, and plan to craft with that item (gear or weapon), then the existence of an augment slot (I am assuming it is empty) will raise the minimum level of the item you create.

From the wiki:

a Colorless Augment Slot adds +1 to the item’s total enhancement value (http://ddowiki.com/page/Cannith_Crafting#Total_enchantment_modifier_and_mi nimum_level).
Red, Blue and Yellow slots add +2 to the item’s total enhancement value (http://ddowiki.com/page/Cannith_Crafting#Total_enchantment_modifier_and_mi nimum_level). For example, a Greater Spell Focus (+4 effect) shield of Superior Stability (+6 effect) with a Red slot (+2 effect) requires at least +12 potential.
Green Augment Slots (and purple or orange, if at some point they are available on an item which can be made Craftable) add +3 to the item’s total enhancement value (http://ddowiki.com/page/Cannith_Crafting#Total_enchantment_modifier_and_mi nimum_level)

Each enhancement value is 2 minimum levels if I recall correctly. The gear with yellow and colorless adds 3 if I recall properly...

Once the item is created, then adding an augment affects its minimum level only if the augment has a minimum level higher
