Currently on live, any amount of double shot/shot beyond 100% has no benefit. With the upcoming changes to many shot & 10k stars double shot valus above 100% will allow for a chance at a 3rd projectile, while double strike above 100% will provide no additional benefit due to technical limitations.
My proposed change is to make it so that double shot & double strike levels above 100% provide the additional percent as a boost to ranged power & melee power respectively.
For example a character with 130% double shot & 120% double strike would have a 100% chance of an extra projectile, a 30% chance at another extra projectile, a 100% chance to double strike & a 0% chance of an additional double strike, after the currently proposed changes. A character with the same double shot / double strike would have a 100% chance of an extra projectile, an additional 30 ranged power, a 100% chance to double strike & an additional 20 melee power with these proposed changes.
Pros.
Less projectiles - one of the main reasons behind the many shot / 10k stars change was to reduce the number of projectiles generated due to them being resource intensive for the game.
Keeps double strike and double shot similar - one of the devs concerns about making double strike values not loop like double shot was the backlash from melee players asking for similar treatment.
More consistent DPS - a 30% increase to damage will have a lower standard deviation than a 30% chance at extra damage.
Cons.
Less projectiles means less on hit procs - more or less self explanatory.
Different DPS - I haven't done calculations yet but I'm entirely sure this will change the DPS of many builds vs what the devs have proposed, this could be good or bad depending on if it boosts already strong builds or or gimps suboptimal builds and vice versa. I could use help with getting info here.
