Caster Druid

I was very unhappy with my caster druid in epics, so i spent some plat and time on fixing him

I got him to level 28 and looking at ering him

This is not optimal at the moment, but i dont want to tr... yet

so halfelf needs to stay

first life is staying

i have looked at gingers druid build and it was most enlightening


Stats:
max wis - all levels here - +3 tome
max con - +2 tome

Gear - endgame- while im not opposed to raiding, im trying to get this guy up to where i feel comfortable raiding

Goggles: Shadowsight - ee version - have
Head: Halcyonia,- need, Epic Minos Legens- have
Neck: Sage's Locket - may go for the new lions neckless
Trinket: ?
Cloak: Mysterious Cloak- need to get
Belt: Epic Belt of Thoughtful Remembrance - have 1, need to farm another
Rings: Epic Guardian's Ring, Lantern Ring - have both
Hands: Iron Mitts - have
Bracers: Armbands of the Silenced Ones - have
Boots: Epic Boots of the Innocent dont have using orcish boots
Armor: Shadow Dragonplate Shadow Guardian 30/60 DR (This can be crafted with unbound ingredients) need more scales
Shield: Epic Shield of Tireless Aid, Epic Wall of Wood have both
Weapon: Thunderforged Scimitar with Evocation +6, Glaciation 150 (up to tier 2 with these stats can be crafted with unbound ingredients) can make but not sure if its worth it. its only a +1 evo dc, but not sure what else - maybe spell pen?


Just some thoughts on making this guy better


this is a caster druid with a focus on cold/elec damage and cc from earthquake

I don't know anyone who knows how to make a great EE Caster Druid better than Gingerspyce.
I used this build and some of his other posts to modify my Halfling Druid and he is much better for the effort.

Looks like you're dumping the toughness and epic toughness...
27th: Lot of people like Ruin. You could also take Epic DR.
28th: Here I use Elusive Target, but if you're looking for alternatives, some people like Mass Frog. Guardian Angel is nice too.

I just added this non-raid item section a few days ago and I'm really glad someone is using it already!

Trinket: besides what I have listed, you could also use Shamanic Fetish, Magestar, Kardin's Eye, Broken Music Box
Weapon: Other tier 2 options could be +6 to conjuration or purple slot for slotting spell power. I would not recommend spell pen. You could also craft a very nice epic water weapon from TOEE.

im using holy symbol of lolth right now - looking to put that away either for fetish or something else. just need a slot for globe

ruin - maybe, my sp is low right now, so maybe not

toughness? when im running in sentinal i have around 1300 hp. thats what 100 hp or so? doesnt seem worth it, but i could be convinced

ya spell pen as you say is only for two or 3ish spells, and fod is a joke trap on a druid. so it doesnt seem worth for 1 spell and a sla! what does conjuration do for a druid? thinking purple slot is my best option

I would do transmutation rather than evocation focus in my own personal opinion. For the AOE entangles and plant growth spells, and ice flowers. You are a Druid, not a bug zapper.

New Build You know why people take quicken, they dont want to give up a feat for mobile casting. You know why you give up a feat? As a caster you dont want to give up spell points. Unless of course you want to melee everything, then quicken is better. Personally I think staying ranged is probably a good idea. I would even consider doing this in the way of an arcane archer...but you can decide how to do that yourself if you want. Its late.

Conjuration would mainly affect Creeping Doom and Fire Seeds Trap, but also the lightning portion of SOV, and some people like Slinterbolt, which is one of druid's (I believe) only 3 untyped damage spells (the others being Ice Flowers, which does cold and piercing, and Earthquake). Purple slot is prob a better option though.

Don't forget Salt Ray, which does Force dmg and can stun targets. EDIT: also Word of Balance, although based on alignment, does bane / untyped dmg as well.

Its just that its the one spell thats worth it that has sr so its not worth a spell pen item

There's only a few druid spells with SR checks: WoB, FoD, and Howl of Terror. Even more annoying, they each come from different schools too: Evo, Necro, and Enchantment, respectively. As such, I don't consider it worthwhile to build around any of them; I just save them for mobs which are weak against them.

If you are comfortable with your hp total then the toughness line is completely unnecessary :)
