View Full Version : Logging in is very difficult

Since yesterday afternoon, my logging in has been very spotty.

I am having all sorts of weird error messages.

Usually, I have on the login server, patch server for 33% for a few seconds then I have the line

Task :: Status :: Progress
Overall :: Check Product :: 44%

That line stays in the screen a LONG time.

Then if I do get in, I get the unable to verify support tickets or whatever that message is.

Logging into the forums is not fun also.

No one else is complaining about it though which tells me that I need to run a tracert.

Now I just get

Have you tried with an alternate launcher ( PyLOTRO or DDO-ML ) ?

I've moved the the first one long ago because of this kind of issue, the constant splash screen download, and the constant reinstall of C++ redistributable...
Since then it has been working like a charm ( except when they made a change at the begining of the year, where I had to look out for an updated PyLOTRO version )

I know it seems ridiculous to suggest alternatives to the official launcher... But honestly, there's not much that can be done beside that from the community standpoint...
It's a problem with Turbine and Akamai ( they hosts the files that are checked )....

I had that problem once. I just reinstalled and it started working again. Hopefully there is another solution

I have not tried PyLOTRO or DDO-ML. But maybe I will after I destroy my home network.

My tracert shows me an asterisk so I am thinking my ISP is at fault. Since it is the weekend, and the internet mostly works for everyone else in our area except for us gamers that link to Boston, I am probably SOL. My family is not reporting any problems whatsoever.

I will reboot the brand spanking new cable modem and my router, re-run my tracert, to see if that clears it up.

Thanks for the replies, it confirms that it is on my end.

Have you tried disabling proxy in the game launcher options? That has helped people in the past with similar problems, IIRC.

Last night, I put the proxy to NO PROXY.

After rebooting my network, I still have the asterisk

It looks like Chicago to New York and then I get stuck on Teliasonera.com New York hub then finally spun up to Boston teliasonera.com and handed off to Internap. I thought Teliasonera was in Scandanavia and Baltic.

In 2014 the tracerts were using Verizon DBA Worldcom(bought their company) and Cogent.

Now it is Telia?

Isn't Turbine switching over to the people who hosted the game in Europe in Amsterdam?

http://www.networksolutions.com/whois/results.jsp?ip=62.115.140.104

This tells me it is RIPE NEtwork hosted in Amsterdam.

Flav from France, I know you are telecom, enlighten me please!!!

It is beginning to look like I am not alone.

I started to experience problems Friday afternoon. Others are just beginning to report problems because I see some posts on Twitter, Facebook, and Google +. Plus the one other forum poster.

This should be what you are seeing.

When you use the launcher, it takes a LONG time to load up. FAIL POINT ONE.

When you use the launcher, when you do get to the update download screen you will sit on 33%, FAIL POINT TWO, THEN you should go to the next screen and be stuck on the 44% for a long time. FAIL POINT THREE.

After you get all updated for the umpteenth time, you get to your login account selection screen and you choose your account and login.

The worlds will appear all RED. FAIL POINT FOUR. Sometimes, this can last a couple of minutes, but will eventually clear up. A couple times, I couldn't take it anymore and just restarted.

Then, once you select your world, you should be getting in line to connect. FAIL POINT FIVE. This also can take a LONGGGGGGGGGGGGGGG time. Sometimes, I just walk away. Sometimes, if I have felt I waited too long, I begin the process all over.

You select your character and you go to the final loading screen, and the little blue bar at the bottom NEVER ADVANCES. FAIL POINT SIX

Then, once you get past all that, you should be golden.

Have you done a tracert? My tracerts are showing

For me, Turbine use to use Verizon and Cogent, but now it is this Telia hosting service.

To do a tracert

Go to cmd prompt
tracert 74.201.102.13 > C:\<your directory>\<yourfilename>.txt

if you don't do a directory and just do the part below, the .txt document will go in your default user directory.

Go to cmd prompt
tracert 74.201.102.13 > C:\USERS\<your user name>\<yourfilename>.txt.txt

Please replace the your statements with what your system has.

BTW, Just keep starting launcher, let it hang up, then press the X to terminate. Start it up again, it should advance past your last fail point but encounter the next fail point, then rinse and repeat until your character is in the world.

LoTRO now has a thread on logging in issues.

With about the same number of complainants as DDO, two or three. Add in the ones from social media if might approach 100 or so.

Which is why it hasn't reached critical mass.

Not to mention, some of the employees from Turbine are out in Seattle.

Every character, every server. Tried all the trouble-shooting I can on my end, all for naught. Wondering if I have the patience for a reinstall.

Connectivity issues are improving.

Not quite to pre-Friday afternoon status, but a lot better.

If these issues had continued, I was considering offering up my stuff and cutting bait. I had not been this frustrated with the game since 2013.

Ok, here I am...

From what I've read about the Datacenter move that should occur SoonTM :

DDO is moving to NY area, as well as all the US based LoTRO servers. Along the way the LoTRO servers are going to be merged.
Part of the LoTRO servers are going to Europe ( Maybe Amsterdam, but honestly I haven't followed where they go... ), also with a merge. That's the Former Codemasters Servers.
They can't move back DDO to Europe ( or that means that they move G-Land to Europe ) because of how the takeover from Codemasters was done.
For DDO they merged the European Servers ( Keeper and Devourer ) with Ghallanda.
For LoTRO they created new Servers in the US with the data from the European Servers and updated the European Game clients.

Now for the whois bit... yes the IP 62.115.140.104 is assigned by RIPE... to Telia.
It doesn't means that it's an address used in Europe.

Chicago, New York, Boston, PNAP, Turbine...

Telia, is a Tier 1 Carrier like Cogent, Worldcom, Global Crossing, Level 3, ATT, NTT and a few other.
We used to go through Cogent, but there was a lot of issues ( lag ), Turbine switched to Telia ( because they are one of the Tier 1 Carrier with a peer at the PNAP Boston datacenter )

Telia was Scandinavian, Sonera was Finnish... as telecom operators... But since they were both national operators of some kind, they have a network ( either through black fiber leased from other companies or through their own fiber ) that has a worldwide reach.
