That is what I was hit with last week. It was attached to the turbine program.
Just got back online after my comp specialist took care of it.

Were you using AVG and was the fix to replace AVG with different anti-virus software?
If so I think that is an issue with AVG and not DDO.

And then.....
No seriously, and then what? Am I supposed to infer that all Turbine installations are distributing viruses? Am I supposed to wonder why you have a "comp specialist" (which for my family is me, so it'd be nice to have someone else and please don't say it was the Geek Squad, the only acceptable answer to that is Nerd Herd). Or am I just supposed to say, "Cool story bro." It's just unclear what the purpose of this is, as it stands now it's just room for idle speculation.

That is all I know. The specialist said I had a virus attached to my turbine program and it was named terbine.
It took them a week to find out what was wrong.
The last time I used the computer was playing DDO. I kept having incredibly slow transition loading times and force closed it. The screen went black and that was all i could get until today.

I thought it might be a good idea to let you know it happened in case anyone else has an issue. Whoever created the virus is apparently aware of turbine. Or at least it seems that way. I'm no expert. Do viruses name themselves to sound like the program they attach themselves to?

Me, I'm waiting for a major company to actually list it in their definitions. So far I see nothing in any vaults (yes, I know I have to take that with a grain of salt.). I'm wondering if your "specialist" made up the name for you.

Based on the title, I thought this was going to be a rant thread full of rage, hate, and nerd drama. I guess I'll go put my popcorn back now.
I am disappoint.

No. It's just weird.
Viruses don't work or stay hidden due to phonetic similarities.

it is false report. and programs may be wrong. but your specialist should recognize false reports. that is why he is specialist after all.
1. do not worry about that "virus".
2. find better IT advisor.
ps.
3. smells a bit for trolling indeed.

Why aren't others reporting it? You know, the other 100,000 or so that downloaded the game. As far as I can tell, not one other user on any of the other DDO forums, I have four that I checked for about a downloaded virus, not one other user has reported this.
I would like to know how did you download? I will give you a hint, there are only two answers.
You are also insinuating that the way Turbine uses to disperse the game could be loading viruses to us. Well, there is a major problem with that thought process. Choose your answer wisely.
Since you needed a "computer specialist" to get rid of the virus this is also a hint into your, shall we say, talents.
I am thinking you are blaming the wrong thing for how this "virus" became installed on your machine.
Glad you are back to playing though, without the "virus".

I've been playing from the same download or years. Never had an issue like this till last week.
My "specialist" is nothing more than a self taught computer geek I know who repairs computers on the side.
If no such virus has ever been heard of then I'll tell them what you said. As to my talents with knowing the techs of computers... lol is none enough?

Was part of the fix to change anti-virus software? I know of one person that was using AVG and it was indicating malware when DDO was run. He switched to something else and the problem went away. The issue was false reporting by AVG and not an actual virus. If your PC specialist recommended AVG in the first place he may not have wanted to admit AVG was the problem.

This tells me that whatever put the virus on your computer was not DDO or any Turbine software. Like others, I suspect your computer "specialist" isn't giving you accurate information. A quick Google search for "terbine" (and forcing it not to show results for "turbine") doesn't return a single hit for any malware named "terbine" on the first four pages. So, *if* there is malware named "terbine", then it isn't trending enough to have many people talking about it. Also, there were ZERO results for "terbine malware" or "terbine virus" (both with the quotes around them). I would be very suspicious of your computer "specialist" and require him or her to give you more information about this. I think you'll discover they know only nominally more than you do about computers.
