I personally would reverse intelligence and Charisma and put all level ups and enhancements into Charisma. 16 in your primary stat for starters is pretty common... its not a huge hit, and your blast damage comes from spell power. Take Evocation and Greater Evocation feats, some evocation items with corresponding enhancements and you should be gold.

That is just preference though. You might be cautionary with DC's and not care about skills as much.

I know its a stretch but taking skill focus spellcraft instead of initiate would even further increase your damage...now it might be a drop in a bucket but plus 3 spell power is equal to 3 percent more damage base (150% of that from your blast so 4.5%) now think of it like that...with higher intelligence and spellcraft you are going to do more damage than someone with intelligence as a dump stat. Each point is another 1.5 percent damage increase with your basic attack.

Extend spell is a waste in my opinion for a pure caster. I would take insightful reflexes instead. It will probably save your life more than your extended buffs will.

Now that is even more reason to go high intelligence and have both intelligence and Charisma items donned on your character. With 20 intelligence a plus 10 item, 23 ranks in spellcraft, and skill focus Spellcraft that is 36 % increase damage from spells and 54% increase for your blasts without any other lore/spellcraft items, enhancements, or buffs.

no.

And it's no because you never tried it right? Go ahead and roll a 7th level drow up with higher spellcraft and compare.

That seems to be a really bad trade-off. You are giving up 2 DC for 2 spellpower.

You have more than enough skills with a 16 int.

Also another thing, most warlock spells do not at all benefit from maximize and empower including your blasts.

Heighten is a good choice. And maybe an armor proficiency or spell penetration. I would do armor prof. if going elf instead of drow though at least for tainted scholar making use of their arcane fluidity enhancement.

Not when considering you need to boost heal for when you switch over to evil damage from scholar when facing enemies resistant to acid. I would even suggest throwing in a level of FVS just for that reason.

Here is the thing and why skill points are good for warlock...warlock is the only class with not just UMD but an extreme amount of UMD...now in speccing for that Empower and Maximize is a good idea...if you can gather enough scrolls to cast from other classes that will benefit at level. If you arent going to be running around with scrolls though...you really do not need those feats. One level of FVS one Level of Bard and you have all bases covered especially with 20 intelligence and tomes. Meaning Heal, Perform, Spellcraft...choosing wizard, fighter, or rogue instead of a divine class for Repair as a forged. (Or alternatively both a Divine and an Arcane class in order to get a jump on cross class UMD casting from both and bonuses for wand/scroll use depending on the classes you take)

A reason why it would be nice to be able to scribe scrolls at caster level rather than the random ones with set levels in order to sell at the AH.

eldritch burst SLAs benefit greatly from max/emp. theyre literally the main source of dps.

Disregarding issues with this quote and staying on topic: 1% spellpower will always add 1% to base damage. However, 1% factored out is not equal to 1% improvement. With 400 spellpower, base damage is effectively multiplied by 500% (100 base + 400 sp). 1% of base at this level of spellpower is effectively a 0.2% improvement. If sacrifices are made for spellpower, one should weigh the actual improvement. Expending a feat for somewhat improved reflex save while sacrificing DC doesn't sound too good to me.

eldritch burst SLAs benefit greatly from max/emp. theyre literally the main source of dps.

I believe empower / Maximize works as follows for warlocks:

Stunning Blast: Described as useless do to its quicken-proof cast time
Eldritch Ball: Tier 5 Tainted ability of which the jury is still out

Consume: Consume is quite good but takes significant Soul Eater investment to get strong.
Stricken: Stricken is a similar boat as Consume.
Eldritch Wave: Tier 5 Soul Eater ability. Powerful but is soul eater really the tree you want to go tier 5 in? I've also read that wave attacks require you to be within pretty close range. If you are going for damage at a distance, it's usefulness is hampered.

Eldritch Burst, Spirit Blast: Both quite powerful ( even after nerf ) but they're also a point blank range attack. If you're building a long range warlock attacker are you really going to get empower and maximize for something if you get it at all is only for emergency situations? ( Also Spirit Blast is Tier 5 )

If you're going Enlightened aura mode with burst and spirit blast. Then yes Maximize and Empower make sense.
If you are building up consume and Stricken then Maximize and Empower makes sense.

But if you're going tainted scholar eldritch distance attacker with minimal investment in soul eater. Then the only thing that will be using Empower and maximize on a regular basis would be Eldritch Ball. ( and that's assuming you don't skip eldritch ball so you can get shining through from Enlightened as well as assuming that Eldritch ball isn't crippled by casting time the way stunning blast is ) In this case a strong argument can be made that maximize and empower aren't worth it.

Tainted scholar extra pact damage and spell crit damage works with burst and blast. If you read the SLA's description it says it deals light damage and the aura damage(with pact damage) in one burst that scales with spellpower. and yes this is an aura mode build.

the tier 5 eldritch blasts :
ball : least powerful for many reasons, highest utility : only counts as a single eldritch blast, has a cost to use, HOWEVER the blast goes through walls / doors, and grates... im looking at you necro 3... ( i do not remember the cooldown on this one, sorry )
wave : most powerful, through its base use, though most limited : strictly comparitavly this is the most powerful one you can get, even when considering the extra light damage you get from spirit blast, assuming no utterdark.
spirit blast : most popular and for good reason : synergies too well with utterdark, you can actually get 16d6 light damage if you take the enhancements, the prime choice for melee builds, and its an OH SH!! button for those ranged people that get swarmed.

I suppose the question for Eldritch Ball is does it disrupts the usage of Eldritch Blasts to cast the way stunning blast does.

If in the time it takes to cast one eldritch ball you could have released two or three eldritch blasts then its utility drops down fast.
( If Necro 3 is your concern, buy some fireball scrolls and take your UMD for a spin )

On the other hand if it's like Spirit blast and you can cast it at the same time as your eldritch blasts without disrupting them at all then it is much more valuable.

i dont remember the casting time for the ball, if noone has posted it before i hit 12 again then ill let ya know.

and necro 3 wasnt my only concern it was just a very prominent example.

Eldritch Ball is cast at the same speed as Hellball. It also acts like Hellball and can hit monsters multiple times. Cooldown is 6 seconds, costs 4 Depravity (basically free if you have the TS capstone).

Just tried out eldritch ball, and you're right, it basically gets integrated into the attack chain. It's faster than even spirit burst/blast. If hellball works the same, that can be pretty awesome burst DPS. I think it's pretty clear T5 TS is much better than T5 ES though.

I played around with all the SLAs to test out how they disrupt the attack chain, and IMO:

Fastest
eldritch ball (and also hellball?) - zero speed cost. Probably best to macro it into the attack chain.

Fast
Spirit burst/blast - minor attack speed cost, still very clearly worth using.

Slow
Normal spells, consume, stricken - DPS loss in most cases. But stricken and consume both have really good DPS up effects, if you go for soul eater. Still, very clunky to use.

Very, very slow
Stunning blast, eldritch wave - both take an entire attack chain animation and interrupt. Stunning blast is huge DPS loss, but eldritch wave is possibly a slight increase (3x + max + empower + 150% scale). But, T5 soul eater seems unlikely for most people.

I think you should hit lvl 20 at least before making such statements. Aura/spirit warlock is better dps than ranged blast warlock, both on single target and aoe, especially at high end EE content where there are many more mobs than just 3 at once. Spend 41 points in scholar for the capstone, go tier 5 in espirit, with both cleaves and the aura that benefit from max/emp and empyrean magic (and righteous fervor if in EA for even more light power). That is the faster build for EEs, despite the cooldowns on cleaves, and despite the lack of full spell rotation. You can throw in avenging light and hellball if you absolutely must have full spell rotation (but hellball is a major sp hog, if that's an issue)

Now if you're making a heavy multiclass shiradi warlock, your mileage my vary, but then why even bother with a warlock, gold shiradi is much stronger/faster anyway.

Finally an excersise, how many seconds does it take to swap from chain blast to cone shape and launch the first cone?

I did get to 20, but didn't do epics. I was mostly using cone shape, which I found to be better. With t4 soul eater for vulnerability procs, there's not enough ap for tainted scholar and enlightened scholar. Your suggested enhancements seems to be full investment into es and ts, so you miss out on soul eater, which seems like a big eps loss.

Also, even with avenging light and hellball, you don't have a full rotation. I was thinking of various hybrids for that path.

http://s862.photobucket.com/user/Michaelishawt/media/Screenshot%2022.png.html here is a link to a screenshot of my planned enhancements for epics. i will be using aura, bursts, consume and stricken in conjuction for damage, consume will also be used as essentially a speed buff in slayer areas to get to quests. the enlightened spirit capstone is the easiest to acquire without having to spend extra AP, and i prefer the ES tier fives. Displacement SLA along with extra HP definitely wont hurt in epics. and i will be farming devils assault a lot, so the aura/bursts will help too. the 25 spent in tainted is for death ward, spell critical damage, extra pact damage, and charisma, and, you guessed it. more hp/heals with feigned health. I do believe this split method has the most bang for your buck. I personally will not find out until i get to epics which might take a while considering i have to work most days. just TRed into this build and im currently lvl 5. lvls 1-3 i used chain, switched to corruption eternal wand of acid/impulse item with radiance ring at lvl 4 and used maximized burst. Feat order is MAX/WizPL/empower/evocationfocus/greaterfocus/heighten/quicken quicken is mainly for rejuvanation cocoon and buffs personal preference. my Epic destinies are limited at the moment but it should carry itself enough to farm ED spheres. i will be using twists for rejuv cocoon and shout. if any of you are willing to test this plan out for me, go right ahead and let me know how it goes.

Extend is not in the current build plan. although it is useful for any warlock buff and is a personal preference for most players due to the fact that not having to rebuff increases xp/min.
