View Full Version : Heavy Armor?

I have read and listen to podcast about the new trend in DDO. The wearing of heavy armor on casters seems to be all the rave. Now I am considering putting TF heavy armor on my Warlock for that DR 30/- defense. This will make EE questing tons easier. Was I just behind the times, or was the changes made to armor the catalyst of this trend?
Thanks.

I am currently planning on adamantine body for Uurlock's next life (in a week or so) (BF Sorc/Pal) -- PRR/MRR is just that good.
see build here:

Hmmmm, other than multiclassing, you think a heavy armor ES warlock would be possible? Bladeforged, warforged, and elves get ASF reduction in their tree, and there are several items that reduce ASF from 5-15%. Does ASF affect eldritch blasts and abilities or just spellcasting?

Should be. The only class that can't wear Heavy Armor is Monk, who can't wear any.

No clue. Can always throw on some Heavy Amour and see. You wont be proficient (so you will gain the related penalties) but you can check for what you are really after, Eldritch Blast (and abilities).

Half-Elves can take +15 ASF reduction in their racial tree. Add the +15 augment, then splash on +5 from some other item. It is really easy on the Half-Elf. Yes the ASF affect all EB powers.

I am currently raising an enlightened spirit warlock 19/Fighter 1 with heavy armor and a tower shield. ( shield mastery and improved shield mastery )
Eldritch aura, eldritch burst, eldritch blast, consume, stricken, life force, power word stun, power word kill, dimension door, and knock.
All of these function just fine with no arcane failure check no matter how much armor I wear.
The heavy armor is crafted Greater Twilight (-20 spell failure ) +5 mountain plate with a +15 spell agility augment. (-15 spell failure )
So if I'm just wearing the armor and switched to my junker buckler shield I have no spell failure and can cast buffing spells and the like.
While my tower shield is equipped I have 50% arcane spell failure and can't effectively cast arcane failure spells but I'm okay with that as I'm constitution maxed and my DCs outside of evocation aren't high enough anyway.

Reached level 27 just a few minutes ago and decided to take HAP. Unfortunately, the feat cannot be selected (subdued) and when I click on it, I get the red message must be proficient in medium armor - which a warlock is based on their selection in the ES tree. Is anyone else having or noticed this possible bug?

If you don't have Heavy Armor Proficiency, I'd stick with medium armor (proficiency granted through Enlightened Spirit) at least until Shadow Plate. It has higher dodge cap, better PRR (24 +2/3 BAB vs 30 for Heavy Armor without proficiency), equal MRR and no spell failure.
EDIT:It's not a bug, since feats granted through enhancements can't act as prereqs for feats chosen at leveling. The reason for this is that enhancements can be reset, which wold break any prerequisites that it fulfilled.

Oh wow, I didn't know that. I may have to wait until I eTR again.

Not a bug the tree doesn't count for true medium armor use it has to be a feat taken or granted by class

Also if you take the Medium armor feat but not the enhancement, you still suffer arcane failure chance with the armor.
Only if you take the enhancement does it negate arcane failure chance for you.
