I'm a first-lifer building an artificer, and I picked the Arcanotechnician line due to its SLAs and dog enhancements. I'm level 13 going on 14, and I've had a blast so far. I am a little concerned, however, because the only builds I ever see talked about in this forum are heavy repeater battle engineer builds.
Are Arcanotechnicians viable in epic content? Do their SLAs still hold up as decent damage dealers? Will I be able my DC's high enough for Lightning Sphere and Static Shock to still do decent CC? Does the dog scale enough to be helpful?
Sorry for the question spam... I just wanna know if this is gonna be epic toon or if I should just TR him at 20.

Last time I checked, Lightning Sphere is bugged; there's actually no DC check, so it always dazes. This makes House C quests with their wall-to-wall arty mobs a PITA, IIRC.
To paraphrase another poster: the problem with AT builds is you have all the disadvantages of Air Savants (Reflex-based spells, lightning-resistant/-immune mobs are a problem, etc.) but none of their advantages (deep SP pools, Air Dance, CL:25 sorc spells vs CL:15 arty spells, etc.). You could probably make a decent Draconic or Shiradi AT build, but that's more of a tribute to the EDs' power than arties.

Don't focus on the defenders, they are only good for pulling levers, or popping a trap. Arti's need love for there epic levels.. Hopefully they will get a pass before too long.

I have several versions of artis over 20 and one I currently am running is a lvl 24 Arcanotechnician with deep Harper tree and now a draconic ed. I have done nothing special with him and have hit Int 54 which gives me +22 to hit and damage and with decent repeaters can hold my own. The puppy has over 1200 HP a ac mid 70s with a str and con in the 60s.
While I will not say you can be the most awesome build in your party I have solo'd the whole game and have no issue on EH and in a party in EE. I say play and plan. If you like it all the way to 20 I do not see why you cannot keep going.
Plus with the ability to trap, cast most spells as I have a umd in low 40s and that was with no extra effort you should have fun and always be an asset to a party. But then again some look at artis in Epic content like they did at bards for years.

That is good to know Laura. I'm not looking to be l33t dps or zerg my way through content. I'll be seeing the epic content for the first time and would like to stop and smell the roses for a bit. I just want to be soloable for the most part, and not be a liability if I do join a group.
