I am planning to TR one of my main characters into a bladeforged (my first attempt at an iconic build) and am not sure how it works. Specifically I would love someone to walk me step by step through the character creation and how to get rid of the paladin level. I have looked at the wiki and find it a little confusing and unclear exactly how to do this. Help would be greatly appreciated. If this has been covered in a previous post, feel free to direct me there, I couldn't find it.

Thanks

I've done it without major mistakes so it's not rocket science. Off the top of my head, follow at your own risk etc:

1) You need a true druidic heart of wood and a +1 lesser heart of wood.
2) Go to the reincarnation grove.
3) Talk the person there, select true reincarnation and put in your true heart of wood
4) Logout
5) Login
6) In the character creation screen choose iconic and custom build
7) Spec your first level. Stats, skills and feats don't matter.*
8) Wake up in the creation forge, tell the LoB that you want to do your own thing
9) Get out in House Cannith, walk to the marketplace
10) Talk to the trainers, levelling your character *EXACTLY* in the same order you want in your final build for levels 2-15. Stats, skills and feats don't matter.*
11) Go back to the reincarnation grove
12) Talk to the person, select lesser reincarnation and put in your lesser heart of wood
13) Relog
14) Respec your character following your levelling plan. Remember to choose custom and select a non-paladin first level class.

* It can be a good time to proof check your level plan to the extent it's possible with the wrong first level class, but again - it doesn't matter.

Iconics always start out with their initial class level, unfortunately. You need to LR +1 if you really want to get rid of that class, but you're not allowed to LR while saving XP and Iconics always start with enough XP to level to 15. So basically what you need to do is:

Go thru the initial character creation process. When you choose an Iconic, you skip the "select a class" step, because it's auto-assigned based on the Iconic race you picked.
Go to the class trainers and level up to 15 in whatever your real class(es) is supposed to be.
Go to the Reincarnation Grove with your HoW +1 in your inventory and tell the glowy orb you wanna LR.
When you go thru the LR process, this time you will be allowed to change your initial class at lvl 1. [Yes, it is dumb that you can't do this when you first create an Iconic char; and yes, it's probably just a way to make you buy a HoW +1.]

Since BF always start as pallies, that means they also always start as Lawful Good. So if you want to play an alignment-restricted class as a BF (i.e., bard, barb, druid), this process gets more cumbersome (and way more expensive):

Go thru the initial character creation process.
Go to the class trainers and level up to 15 in an "alignment-neutral" class. [E.g., pal 1 / ftr 14]
LR +1 as before into an alignment-neutral class. [E.g., ftr 15]
Purchase an alignment change from the DDO Store which is compatible with whatever your intended class is and consume it. [Bard & barbs must be non-lawful; druids must be at least partially neutral.]
Now you need to use either an LR +20 to switch to your intended class; or you need to LR +5 three times in a row to swap all your classes over. Note that there is a 3-day timer on LRs, which means if you have to use LR +5s, it will be 6 days before you're able to do that final LR +5.

Both replies are really helpful. TY

Was looking in the wiki. It says something about how this makes your character still appear a bladeforged while not actually being iconic. Importantly, do you still get bladeforged enhancements?

Yes...Bladeforged is your race...so you will still get that enhancement tree.
