View Full Version : how to find slow groups?

I've been gone for 8 years. I'm trying to level my 28-point build sorcerer (currently level 11), and I'm discovering just how terribly squishy I am. I'm hoping to find recurring group events where I can gain exp while still being helpful to others. Yes, I've tried the LFG tool. It was... unsatisfying. For both sides, I think. I'm not equipped for jumping into Elite instances with others who flash through the zone at a hectic pace, since I've never seen these zones before.
Where do I find "slow" groups who can pause long enough for me to appreciate the scenery?
I'm not looking to switch guilds. Yes, my guild deleveled since nobody had signed in for years. I've got it back up to level 8, and I intend to stick with it. So what other methods are there for finding people who want to "play" the game more than simply farm it?
Is there any way to "level down" and mentor to someone's lower level so everyone still gets decent experience together? Or am I stuck trying to find someone at the same level as me, who happens to be logged on at the same time?

Have a look at the Thelanis Guilds forum, every now and then there's an advert for a casual/beginner-friendly guild, I can see one or two on the first page right now. There's even a "teaching guild" on there. Even though you intend to stick with your guild, you could still quest with these people or ask them if they have any user channels you could join.
Unless you're opposed to role-playing, you could also try some RP groups, they tend to go at a slower pace.

Well I'm just one guy, but I'm willing.
Actually, I am in a similar situation. I do not want to join a guild. But I sure wish I could find some regular, relaxed friends.

I'm on Thelanis and in a similar situation - just returning to the game from a 5+ year hiatus. I have a level 11 pure rogue that can join you and handle the traps.
Another option is to consider hirelings and play on Casual/Normal until you get your gamng chops back.
My rogue is guilded and I don't really want to leave my guild, but I'd be glad to go at whatever pace you desire. All of my current characters are listed in my profile signature below.

there is guilds who favor such playstyle, and probably, in most of those, you would be welcome to join some runs here and there without being expected to join the guild proper. dunno what server you are on, on argo there's a guild called "we do not run through dungeons" i.e.
then there is the option to either find an already existing chat channel for slower-paced players, or create one yourself potentially, and invite like-minded people ...
as for LFMs, I would rather suggest you put them up yourself than joining others if the diferrence in power creep makes you feel uncomfortable. clearly spell out in the lfm you are a returning player looking for people enjoying slow runs while helping you out a bit with content you do not yet know. lfms like that usually get you one or two kind layed back folks fairly quickly ... something like "returning founder flowersniffing, relaxed company or guide appreciated, NO ZERG NO ELITE"

Check, and post, in the Static Groups or PD thread. PD groups mostly run slow - since you don't want to die - and the static groups often have people looking for slow or "house rules" players. Promote your guild as such and you may draw a following.
The group behind the thread https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/362110-D-amp-D-on-DDO-Maybe-this-would-work (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/362110-D-amp-D-on-DDO-Maybe-this-would-work) is often experimenting with different rules and promotes going slow. Skip to the later messages to see what's going on now. Send a message to intruder1 to see if there is a spot in an ongoing group.
Our Agents of Storm group was playing by house rules but we have changed. We still go slow, mostly, and may be looking for a few good folks to join us. Contact HazelNut and check out our thread https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/439618-Agents-Of-Storm

For the last couple of days I been partying up with a lot of first life characters and heading out to epic elite.... dude its been a blast. They aren't all the same people but the threats are real, making the adventures intense. I don't see why people run with the best of the best all the time except when they got pots and gems running. When you are side by side with people who force you to think about near everything you do it becomes real, not these roller coasters with numbers streaming zerging through traps. Though I will admit I do prefer zergs when I got pots and gems running as well.

and thus the birth of the The Debauchery Tea Party begins.....
I'm down. I enjoy light RP while enjoying the sights. It's another world after all, why not enjoy what has be wrought.

The wiki say to you put a LFM with Crawl to find a group to do the entire dungeon. I dont group much in heroic to avoid zergers. I like do all optional and still learning about the classes. So try put a LFM and maybe others flowers sniffings and newbes join. I will if in the level range. The LFG never worked for me.

Does Thelanis have enough of a public LFM that you can actually make groups with conditions with a reasonable chance of getting a few matches? I ask because on Orien, a lot of people join EE runs that I post simply because they're the only public lfm in the level range, when they'd almost certainly be better off in EH or EN.

Hey Mellowtigger,
I too am recently back from a long hiatus, not as long as yours but still gone a while.
I enjoy looking for folks to run things with and being a super casual player I am not always too keen on running a quest in 30 seconds to move on to the next one.
Currently I am level 9 going on 10 but feel free to add me to your friendlist and look me up. I would be more than happy to run quests with you if given the opportunity. My toon names are in my signature.

I would be surprised if anyone on Thelanis would get many hits on an LFM with "Crawl" or any other such notation in the description.
I don't think Thelanis has ever been the default server for new players, and as such, is almost exclusively populated by vets.
Your best bet would be to start a character on whichever server is currently the default and find a group of brand new players to play with.

All of my toons are in the "Knights of the Shadows" guild.
I am the only currently active member, so 99% chance any character in that guild you see online is me.
Send me a tell if you want to.
I did find a semi-static group to run with though, but if we have room I am sure anyone would be welcome to join.
Or I would be happy to help someone out on occasion.

I spend 99% of my time solo'ing. I have no problem starting a new toon just to run with someone who wants to take it slow, map out everything, break all the breakables and most of all, stick together. I've been known to start a Shadar Kai and skip the level 15 training so I can level up to someone else's level and help them or just so I can do ALL the dungeons for each level before I level it up.
I run solo because I have no interest in running to the end just for the experience.
If interested, send an in-game email to Alleynia or you can msg me here

I have to say, I am very glad I found this guild. I honestly do not think I would have lasted in this game if I had not. I now serve as the "Herald" for the guild. I watch the forums for upcoming news, and even am currently serving as a Player's Council member for the year. There are many more players who do not want to run through the game, who want to learn to be better, and not just by "Wow, your toon is gimped". We are on Argonnessen, and I believe we still have a much smaller group on Thelanis.
What we believe is simple. We get all the xp, optionals and breakables from every quest, if we in charge of it. If the group forming wants to do otherwise, it is decided as a team before hand. We work as a team and never leave a guildie behind. It doesn't mean we take double the time, we do try to shrine together for buffs, which can really make a difference. We tend to have a healing toon a rogue and at least 3 melee per quest, the other spot could be bard, mage type, etc. Any of you are more then welcome to run with us. We are a small guild, so we tend to have LFM's up often for raids.
We have also formed allies with several other guilds, which helps every player involved.
Look for us in game on Argo! Happy hunting, and yes we really do exist and so do players that want to enjoy all of the game.

When you post your lfm's.
Just post " Flower sniffers only "
Birds of a feather, flock together.
That should do it.
