ugh, seriously. This weekend had lag spikes during Sat and Sun. Hard to do house C challenges when all kobolds stop moving. Always good for a laugh when everyone in your group cant move, gets frustrated and quits game. Oh wait, that's actually isn't funny. Its sad, isn't it Turbine. Doesn't sound like its good for business and people who quit playing due to lag sure don't spend money on Turbine Points. Oh wait, how can someone buy stuff in the ddo store when half the time it is a black wall....

Monday's hot fix is suppose to be performance issues, might want to see if that helps.
When the store is black for me I hit the home button.

Next week we have a patch with several changes to help combat lag.
~ The first and biggest are a series of changes to better distribute the loading and unloading of instances so they don't cause lag spikes. Players should experience fewer lag spikes. More importantly, the performance hit for certain instances loading and unloading was masking our efforts to find other types of lag so once this next patch goes live we will have the double benefit of reduced lag spikes and the increased ability to diagnose lag.
~ In addition we've made some changes to some problematic content that was causing performance problems on the server.
That doesn't mean all lag will be fixed; there is no silver bullet problem we have seen that is causing lag. We continue our efforts to tune performance to improve game play. We are also looking into upgrading to better hardware this year but I can't make promises on that.

Interesting. We play the same server, and although we used to run at a lot of the same times I haven't seen you on lately suggesting that we're now on at largely different times of day. Looking at Sev's comments on instance generated lag, I can't help but wonder how much time of day is related to different player's lag (or lack of lag) experiences. I generally play at off-peak times and have minimal lag issues - perhaps that's not a coincidence?

Hi,
It's good to see some effort being made to fix this, thank you.
The lag problem has definitely become worse for me over the last six months, and going by what I see on the forums, the same seems to be true for some other people too.
I can't help wondering why that is, if a redoubled effort is being made at Turbine's end to fix lag on their end.
Thanks.

just to add my frustration and observations to it...
I did have lag on khyber today. lots of it. insane amounts of it. standing around frozen solid for 15 minutes at a time. in various quests, in various instances, grouping with various people.
among other things, we did Haywire foundry, and when the timer had just started everything froze up and we could just stand there and wait for the blast to kill us. while I am writing this, we are frozen with a group in breaking the ice. and yah, I am aware that's kind of ironic.

We attempted to run EE Deathwyrm on Saturday at 6pm EST on Orien. In pretty much every mirror room we completely froze for several minutes until everyone in the instance was dead. We fought with this for about an hour before we called quits. I feel we've had more lag spikes the last week than before, so what ever you did that cause this, I hope you fix it asap.

I have a theory about lag: I know that some players force disconnects or crush out of the game on purpose. Whenever Turbine fixes one of the various reasons to do this my game experience gets better and every time such things get popular on my server again lag is getting worse too.

Sunday night in eveningstar cavern ? it was brutal....i gave up after almost 20 minutes to get to my airship and logged out...rest of the weekend was fine (meaning the lag was tolerable)...that there must of been 20-30 toons trapped in eveningstar cavern last night all trying to get to airship portal.

Can you do us a favor and put this in a memo titled #@$! Turbine already knows?
Refer to Sev's post about fixes Turbine is implementing, but also with the note of caution that there is no Silver Flame bullet to fix lag. Or perhaps refer to the other posts reporting lag because this isnt novel. Turbine is aware of the situation, is taking steps to resolve it, but they'll honestly never fix it fully. Just take a look at the history of whack-a-mole tweaks, patches, and hot-fixes that reference attempting to fix lag without ever fully fixing it to recognize this and deicde whether to accept it or move on. Maybe it makes me a fanboi for saying this, but these types of posts make me wonder if the poster actually believes posting insulting diatribes actually do anything other than act as temporary catharsis but to no actual benefit.

HA! All you saying about Khyber being drama queen. I was on Thelanis last night and we were inside Invaders. So a lag spike hits and for about 5 minutes we are rubber banding but still moving (not frozen in place, but constantly changing locations). That's pretty common for me, so I have learned to deal with it. Get to a safe place to wait it out.
So I see in the chat "Wow, major lag." - "Haven't see anything like this before" - "One time I was lagged for 15 minutes". and I was ROFLing. My response was: "Pretty minor lag guys, I come from Khyber".
Same happened some months ago on Sarlona. People freaking out over lag while we in Khyber were completely frozen for 30 minutes in place over the course of 6 hours. (So we played for about 24 minutes in 6 hours - trying to complete Unquiet Graves) Lag on Khyber this time of year is good. Sure, we're having the occasional lag spike (frozen in Subterrane trying to get to VoD) but nothing party wiping or so persistent as before the new year.

Not sure how in house budgeting works but this investment may become important in the future when you know that the game will likely have to undergo some server merges as some point. I'm not a "doom-and-gloomer" about DDO, but I am in the camp that mergers would be healthy for the game (assuming the major lag monsters can be slain) at some point in the future. I'm sure updated infrastructure would be key to allowing for something like this to happen.

as i see it, they are short on resources. as i see it, they do what they can and perfectly well know about lags. i hate lags as much as anyone else who experienced that thing. but i really do not see how yelling at ddo team will help. what to do? sadly, but nothing. only can hope for better and ddo team efforts will be fruitful. sadly? yes. but be in rage is useless to anyone and anything.

I love this game, I love that we can voice our concerns openly. There are a lot of us showing our concern now. Thank you DDO for your continued support. ( I know I couldn’t do the work you do).
Now about LAG. I have noticed that there are different types of lag
1. Random Lag whilst walking around aimlessly
2. Lag in dungeons because of certain instances, which btw leaving and reentering helps.
3. Lag because of certain spells being casts, or multiple AOE’s being cast.
4. Personal lag, caused by my own computer.
5. And now the worst one… when ppl say they have lag, when actually they are flirting with some hottie, please do that out of party. LOL
I remember when there weren’t computers. There have been tremendous changes in the computer world in a relatively short time. So my hopes are there will be SOON a Panacea spell to fix it , or a Weapon of Mass Lag destruction, or a HERO that can save the MMO world from this heinous villain ( i.e.-a really smart person) which btw if there is one out there in the DDO world … please step up to the plate and vanquish it for us!
I love our DDO community! TY!

The servers we play on are the same no matter where we are. What changes from location to location is the network between us and the servers.

Fix your own computer. I played for most of the weekend, and on Khyber(the notorious laggy server), I had no problems at all, and that included 3 different runs of Fall of Truth, and one run of Caught in the Web. As for the issues you are saying of the DDO store, it is also an issue with your computer and the Internet Options settings. I get the same black box from time to time, and not on every alt, so it is also an intermittent issue.

Anytime I see this I just want to clock someone upside the head. They say get a ssd and your problems will go away! guess what have one with ddo and os on it and still problems. Heck even when my fps is high (shown on screen of ddo) their will be horrible party stopping lag that makes everyone frozen in place. Blaming the customers for having poor hardware is really poor form just because you were so fortunate as to not get smacked upside the head by groups of undead that you cannot fight back.

Hi,
Whatever performance improvements made to Deathwyrm didn't prevent a group-wide lag wipe for us half an hour ago.
There were eight of us, only doing EN, and once we got onto the shadow side things slowed down then locked up completely.
The few trash mobs we left behind on the lower levels seemed to disappear once we moved on, and we didn't have that many mobs on the shadow side either. Then the lag came, DA suddenly shot up from green to red, and we all died.
We recovered and got our completion by waiting for the lag to go away then using Jack Jibber's blades. Perhaps this item should have its drop rate massively increased or be made available for free in the DDOStore until this situation is finally fixed.
I am really not seeing the effects of the recent measures to reduce lag in the game. If anything, it actually seems to be getting worse. My last two trips into Deathwyrm have both been party-wide lag wipes, which is very disappointing indeed.
Thanks.

Next time you go to do that raid, log some information. Like how many times have you played ddo since you turned the computer on, how many changes of character you have had before the lag, how many screenshots are in your screenshots folder, how many trips to your airship were done in that play session, how many quests before the lag and which ones. I know these seem all over the place, however there could be a reproducable breadcrumb trail that their qa can use for narrowing down lag issues, perf, bugs that cause lag, etc.

I know you mean well, but those are all client-side, they won't help at all for tracking server lag. Info that can be useful is the state of the quest and mobs (as he provided), and maybe even server info from a /loc.

I was in the same party. I know in the past 1 person dc'ing (or managing to get through a portal in shadow raid) occasionally used to clear up the lag, so I volunteered to dc. I tried to come back right away and was stuck in cleaning up connections so I immediately X'd out and logged onto a different server and then logged back onto khyber and was able to get right on. By the time I was through all that and came back the lag had cleared. No clue if it cleared it up or was a coincidence. Lag started shortly after a few of us had gone to the shadow side - 2 of us had entered 2 portals while 3 of us were clearing a few shadows on that side, and the remaining party members were on the main/light side.

Yes, and they are also game state stats. What I am aiming for is providing enough detail to piece together if a race condition is occurring or a magic trigger is occurring.

ALL games should be enjoyably fluid.
I don't need this to be near visually realistic to enjoy.
I'm not dominantly visual in game-play.
I'm an old school player who wants context'ual experience with a scenario, story, adventure...
This should not be a stimulation only game!!!
Respect the AD&D tradition! I have an imagination! Engage it.

I've been debating the same for months. We get used to lag that it becomes normal. It shouldn't be. Lately I've been downloading other mmo's to see the diffrence. No other mmo seems to have the same problem at least on my pc. I do like this game and I constantly check in now and again but have started to play swtor. I hope they get the lag back in control so I can go back to this game. I'll keep in touch.
