One of the problems I've seen lately is lack of raids. I feel that this is due to the introduction of raid timers. As a new raid comes out, hardcore players buy a giant pile out timers, farm it for what they need and then never play it again (I've even seen these raids with "timers provided" in the lfm). This also hurts new players to the game as they never learn from the hardcore/veteran players, like they did in the past

One thought I had was to make raid weapons and armor infinitely upgradable but in some sort of geometric progression
for example
tier 3 thunderforged weapon currently cost you 30 shadow dragon phlogiston
tier 4 could add +1W (or some other multiple like 0.5) and would cost you 60 shadow dragon phlogiston
tier 5 would add another +xW to your weapon for another 120 shadow dragon phlogiston
tier 6 would be 240 shadow dragon phlogiston and so on for ever

the same thing could be done for commendation based stuff and shroud stuff
for example
to get say a lit 3 weapon that adds some +xW to your weapon you need a quadruple imbued shard

I think this would help the raid situation since hardcore gamers always want ever better stuff, it would help turbine keep the doors open since they'd sell more timers, and help new and current players since they would have veteran players leading raids regularly.

Your suggestion, along with the duplication bugs.... would have catastrophic consequences for game balance.

This would be bad.

A continuous no cap item would way too over powered., even with exponential requirements.. Players would find a way to massively upgraded them.
No way to control the growth of these items.

Personally I don't believe Raid bypass timers should ever have existed.. but since they do..
If people want to pay to win.. and are willing to pay to keep the group filled.. all the power to them , its a win for DDO sales..

I can see where you're coming from, Ametrine, and the general idea as such isn't at all bad. But... duping.

Stacks of 500 flawless dragonscales on the ASAH is bad enough. Within two days of your idea being implemented we'd have people running around with weapons dealing 65535[W] damage, or whatever the highest possible number there is. Probably way higher since it allows for fractions.

Rather that infinite power, how about an infinite number of upgrades with a strict finite limit on how high they add up to?

Like a first upgrade grants +1, 2nd gives only +0.5, 3rd +0.25, 4th +0.125, etc., smaller & smaller increases. Always less than +2, but upgrade forever to get as close as you like.

Oh, and since people point it out, it shouldn't use any dupe-able ingredients.
