Apologies for the re-post but I put this up in the tech section and got no response, so I thought I'd try a wider audience:
Bought a shiny new PC yesterday to replace my 3 year old laptop.
Lenovo running windows 8.1
i7 2.20 ghz
8gb ram

tried installing the game via cloud.....took FOREVER...forget it, uninstalled and went back to ddolive.exe

eventually got the launcher going and got the error in the title.

went to support pages and performed the solution there (flushing dns cache)

nothing- same problem

tried to log in on launcher another 5 or 6 times just in case

did it both running as admin and not running as admin.

no difference.

uninstalled and tried the whole process all over again.

same result.

am currently re-installing a 3rd time but can't help feeling I'm banging my head on the wall.

as I said, turbine's recommended solution does nothing.

any other wisdom out there?......

(break)

been attempting to log on now for 24 hours....always the same error message.

I've tried re-installing 4 times now, tried high res, low res...although the whole purpose of this machine is to get a high res experience.....

No idea whether this is to do with windows 8 (never had a problem with win7).

This machine runs win 8.1 Is there a difference ddo-wise to win8?

Also I just noticed this runs dx 11.... could that be the problem?

Is it a Lenovo issue?

I'm starting to get extremely frustrated. Basically an entire weekend wasted, plus £650 spent on a machine which doesn't do what I want it to do (DDO is probably the main thing i'll use this machine for, apart from a bit of home office, surfing and watching the odd film).

Turbine support obviously isn't available until Monday and telephoning from the uk is difficult to say the least, and I'm not convinced they will have a Scooby anyway......

Did you go into the launcher pull down and turn off proxy?

And I just logged into Sarlona, so it isn't a server problem for that server.

I did not......

currently in my 5th or 6th re-install which should be done in a while...I'll try it (i'll try anything).

ummmm...what what will it do?

Nothing bad, too much info if you want full details. Hopefully get you in game. If you get bored, you can find posts on the dev tracker with this suggestion.

On the launcher, it is the downward triangle, options, proxy, no proxy selection.

BTW, I approve of your sig. You quote somebody raised in my home town.

I'll be up for about another hour, and help more if I can.

sigh.....no joy I'm afraid,

I did get sufficiently bored to trawl through a few old dev posts, it does seem to be a catch-all fix that Alkaid trots out, unfortunately none of the issues that were solved with it were the same as mine.

what I'm not sure about is the lack of similar problems I'm finding out there. I've not found any other instances of this issue with this error code getting reported. I'm not sure if that's a good or bad thing

Now I guess I have to wait a day or 2 (at least) for my ticket to get handled. Meantime I'm going to dig out my crappy old laptop and play on that.

- still, many thanks for your suggestion
