View Full Version : The Pit theory (about ToEE)

The Pit, the scourge of new players. We’ve all, or at least most of us, have ran the pit at least once on one or more of our toons. As many of us know, the enemy is a large group of troglodytes with “Juibless” in their name. Many of them are classified as: Apprentices, Preachers, or Devotees, which implies that they are worshiping something... but what? One of the optional bosses in this quest is a large ooze named “Avatar of Juiblex”, but just what is Juiblex? Juiblex is one of the abyssal demon lords, he himself is a constantly expanding mass of ooze that has a heightened sense of intelligence and consciousness due to all the powerful demons it has absorbed into itself. But how does this relate to the Temple of Elemental Evil like this post's title suggests? One of, if not the, main antagonists of ToEE was Zuggtmoy, the Lady Demon of Fungi. Here’s the kicker, Juiblex and Zuggtmoy share the same level in the abyssal plane, and after Zuggtmoy was trapped inside the temple after the battle of Emridy Medows, Juiblex took over a good part of the abyssal level they were on. Since Juiblex and Zuggtmoy are tied lore wise, and Zuggtmoy is tied into ToEE, and ToEE will have heroic and epic levels, will U25 somehow involve The Pit? Will The Pit gain an epic quest version?

Not a big D&D lore person but very interesting if true. It definitely would be a very interesting Eberron tie in. Wonder if the developers are using this or something better (Imho it better be as good as this explanation or better).

Man I hope not. I have yet to complete The Pit on any toon. I have spent hours in that quest and have yet to complete it. HOURS!
/shakes head in shock and disapointment
Don't see it they said it will be greyhawk based so I see zero pit tie in

Very nice, i like the idea of an epic pit, in heroics its a nice xp jump if people care to learn quick ways of doing the pit.
Replace trogs with shuriken throwing halfling monks that jump back on forth on the ledges.
Base EXP: 50k, with another 30-40k optionals :D.
I would love to see epic pit :)

Zuggtmoy and Juiblex ARE greyhawk, Temple of Elemental Evil is Greyhawk, Juiblex and Zuggtmoy are enemy demon lords who rule over the same level in the abyss, because DDO is in Eberron the ToEE thing will have to somehow tie in with Eberron like how the forgotten realms did (not in the exact way, but in some manner), ToEE has to do with a temple built BY Zuggtmoy, Juiblex (her enemy) has worshipers in The Pit, an avatar OF Juiblex is also found in The Pit

Lorewise Jubilex is just as much a Greyhawk (r) god as it is an Underdark entity. So it ties in in FR. I always was somewhat astonished to see Jubilex in Eberron but when they make ToEE next, please make an epic The Pit! The Pit is just one of the most hated / loved quests in that game. I run it every life, with disdain, and feel like I accomplished something when I finally slayed the optional Jubilex Avatar. By the way, I am still looking for Mucks Doom - I ran that quest at least a 50 times w/o success. Needless to say, that several noobs running with me had the luck hitting your muck killer of choice the first time... *grrr*
Epik Mucks Doom - what a weapon!

I mean, this is a world of epic sewer rats and wolves on demi-god power level, but still: I really don´t see a being of Jubilex´ power residing in some Deneith power plant.

the thing about Juiblex is, which i think is awesome, is that he does not interact with his worshipers. Juiblex is, in terms of powers, one of the strongest demon lords, however due to his body constantly growing he is unable to leave the level of the abyssal plane he is in severely limiting his outside influence and causing him to be ignored by most of the other demon lords. His priests have their power, again not because Juiblex bestowed power onto them, but rather because they figured out how to take in the massive amounts of excess power he has from his constantly growing body. Juiblex would not have given the trogs an avatar, or sent an avatar, but instead one of them (probably the high priest optional in The Pit) probably figured out how to transport a small jiggly chunk of Juiblex's massive oozy body into eberron (probably something akin to a gate spell, but with obvious differences)

I hope there is a tie-in. I would love to see an epic version of the pit. Where each area takes you a a puzzle plane to get that furnace going or that room working.
After the epic pit quest is released, prepare for an epic thread about how boring backtracking is no fun and having to jump more than twice is out of the question.

Just like it says, should we end up with a giant ooze as a raid boss, I am thinking yes, this would be the challenge you are looking for, they they will probably sell a bunch of those repair in the quest thingies from the store right, not sure if they work in raids or not, I have never tried them.

Actually, I have a Paralyzing Warhammer of Everbright and it's the best ooze beater I've owned. Those things paralyze like crazy.
I hope there is a tie-in. I would love to see an epic version of the pit. Where each area takes you a a puzzle plane to get that furnace going or that room working.
Although epic pit would be cool I would absolutely hate to see a tie-in between the pit and the temple there should be absolutely zero connection if you look at eberron lore

Just makes sure to replace all oozes with arcane gelatinous cubes (meaning it has lots of hp),
and make sure that you have to be inside a gelatinous cube when solving some puzzle (= you are slowed and have fun :) ),
and of course that cube can paralyze you for 10 secs (5% chance per min, no save),
and don't forget to add beholder from Delirium who solves the puzzle in his way (meaning it screws up your puzzle, but he don't attack you until he solves his puzzle, except for antimagic beam ofc)

Only if they make a proper multi-level map for it like all the new quests.

I can already see epic force traps in the Pit wiping whole parties, due to force damage not being blocked/mitigated by PRR, MRR or anything else.
Everbright weapon prices will bloat enormously for a couple weeks, then settle into a cool 200k for an everbright warhammer, maul or light mace.
The Epic Pit's trap reflex save will be absurdly high upon release, until people come here to complain/praise Turbine for making a quest that's "hard", then there will be a slow series of hotfixes that will break three other things each and the game will be back to normal sometime at the end of 2016, at which time people will complain that the game is way too easy again and threaten to cancel their VIP, etc, etc.
