View Full Version : Favor retain with TR?

Just wondering if there has been any discussion ot thought given to being able to retain your favor upon TR'ing.
The Warlock class will require a TR to re-gain Completionist, BUT, on my main toon i'm "Done" and have been grinding favor to "Complete" it.
Is this just a purely wasted effort? I know how this has worked in the past, just wondering if there is any change with the considerable amount of completionists we now have.

Agreed.
Bonus TP for new favor, you'll get some for Each Warlock life as well as returning to your primary build.

Agreed,
Tr'ing should require reflagging and re-running all the favor.
The only thing I would like to see changed for the TR reset is the incremental counters on Raids.
Allowing this to not be reset on TR would encourage more TR's to flag and run raids while TR'ing instead of just running the bare minimum focussed on high XP rinse/repeat quests when the intention is to TR again.
I know I would reflag and run many of the packs at level if the incremental 20's were not being reset every time I TR. instead of just Coinlord & House K for bag/bankspace favor and focus on high xp/min quests to cap.

I don't agree with this. we need more of a reason to stay at cap and not more reasons to TR. it doesn't help the end game if the only real good reason to hang out at cap is to build up your completions. with more of a focus on end game coming this year, im hoping it will keep capped players entertained longer than a couple months.

And I don't agree with this. If it wasn't for having to do 20 runs to get the bonus reward I'd agree with you. Those who do not have the means (or cheat) for timer bypasses, the 20 runs equal nearly two months of tedium. I've done it twice to clean GS items. Hated life both times. Those who TR will eventually run out of reasons to do so and stay at end game. Getting 3 or 4 raid completions per life will still aid the general population.

Turbine has always been forthcoming regarding Completionist and TR's.
TR resets Favor.
Completionist goes away when a new class comes out.
Your max favor character apparently isnt "done" anymore and you'll need to start over. If you wanted your favor toon to be done, it should not of been your completionist.

2 months to get a 20th reward is really not bad and that's assuming you didn't pull what you wanted or won a roll before then. it keeps players striving for something they want, but unfortunately, raid timer bypass is a sure fire way to kill a reason to go back to a raid and quickly kill off the popularity.
if there is not much of an end game other than chasing down better gear and 20th raid lists, than players have no good reason to stay around at cap longer. theres been a lot of complaints because there isn't much else to do when loot is mostly easy enough to get in a short amount of time and there isn't a lot of activity to get groups together regularly. Shroud is a great example of what worked, but GS hasn't been considered end game loot for some time now.

Endgame content is a reason to stay at endgame.
Tr'ing is to tweak builds for min/maxing and to for something to do until we have real long term endgame content.
Bolstering at level older raids for all the up and comers and people who are TR'ing just allows more people to run at level raids.
Currently I see very few if any at level raids beyond shroud..
the trend I am seeing is that players don't bother other flagging any of the raids(at level) when doing TR's, only pick a few good XP ones move on.
No point in flagging a raid you wont bother to run before TR'ing again. or you can just plough through as a capped toon... like I am seeing with shroud runs.. lots of level 18-28 lfms...
Capped toons running elite old raids for favor or in preparation for TR'ing isn't cutting it.
The game can use all the motivation it can get to have more people running at level raids.

Q
since you gotta get a warlock life because u want to be called completionist, you have to get your favor again "to be completed"
imho, nobody is forcing you to do the warlock life, i could understand it if the warlock PL is giving you something useful, but no, you are sure you will do that life, so? do it, and then grind favor again, both things, completionist and max favor, are your decision, so stick to the common logic rules
since wouldn't be fair people retaining completionist with less classes, and wouldn't be fair people having (as example) coin lords and kundarak favor at lvl 1, in my book is everything WAI
in fact, it's one of those things that aren't wrong with turbine
as someone said, retaining quests/raids completions through life would make more sense, but it will be useful for players, that's why we won't have it ever, because the so called "endgame defenders" (something that i've never seen in ddo, in fact i've always said: once i'm done tr'ing i will leave ddo, because there's nothing to do once you have all the pl, is like getting ultimate gear in wow and waiting for the next rlease to grind it again, no ty)
the only reason to stay at 28 is farming seeds, it's the only thing they made "need to be 28"! rest of things, even more gear, are bad designed with such ml, because waiting to be 28, to equip my uberlitany of dead to... farm seeds, is a bad design
but that would be in another topic

Is this just a purely wasted effort?Yes and no. Yes, of course it's wasted effort. You always knew that new classes would remove the completionist feat.
No in that it's fun to grind out all the favor in an accomplishment sense. So do it again.

I am obviously not one of the endgame people, but I think not-discouraging TRing helps to retain players as well as help new players have people to group with on the way up.

You may not be endgame.. yet.. but it is just a matter of time.
eventually everyone migrates to endgame, otherwise why leave Korthos.
TR's don't need motivation to TR, there is incentive.. like Past life bonuses, changing tweaking builds..
Its not needed, but the accumulated perks make it desirable.
they also get Favor reset which means they get to earn TP again for favor benchmarks.
Before we had TR's if you messed up something you had no way to fix it, you adjusted as best you could, rolled up an alt, or as many did.. delete, start over from scratch.
Completionists recognize they will lose the feat and have to re-earn when new classes come out... I would not expect this to ever change.
I would just like to see better encouragement to run more content all the time.

The game can use all the motivation it can get to have more people running at level raids.
I agree pretty much with everything you say here, especially on bolstering old raids, except that people don't bother to flag for raids like
DQ because unless there is a teleporter they cant make the ~5 minute run to CoF and spend another ~1/2 hour running the quest or make the ~3 minute run to OOB and spend ~20 minutes running the quest or make the ~3 minute run to DQ1 every 3 days (or less if using RTB) to reflag for DQ2. not to mention the loot needs an update.
Titan because the flaggers are too far and hard to find without a map. loot needs an update.
LOB because the run is too far and theres plenty of other weapon choices out there that are just as good if not better and easier to get.
no flagging for Sub raids, but the loot is still good in some cases for twink gear but not many want to take the time for 20 completions that aren't guaranteed like the newer raids, plus you can find just as good random loot. the run only takes 5-10 minutes depending on group, but some wont bother with the run despite those raids at level now feel a lot easier than they used to be.
Abbot because people don't want to repeat quests and communicate with the group which sigil pieces they need and the fact that you need to repeat Litany 4x and all 4 sides to be flagged. I still see Abbot runs, but it looks just like 4 or 5 years ago when there was a dedicated set of players that will always run it because they still like the loot there and think its a fun raid like Titan.
Chronoscope is an epic xp raid now. its rare to see groups doing it at level and its rarer to see "loot run" lfms anymore.
Reavers isn't popular like it used to be but I do see lfms daily, at least 1. easy raid these days even at level.
CITW because some don't like the mechanics of the sp drain, Raiders Boxes really hurt it and Commendations aren't a guaranteed drop.
TOD because the loot is outdated, the exceptional doesn't stack and some are still jaded because it took them 80 or more completions just to get the ring they wanted. people are soloing/shortmanning this raid more often now though.
FOT because theres better loot and it was run to death with guaranteed Commendations drop. that's going by what ive heard and read. ive actually still haven't run the raid yet.
so what do we have left?
Von because its very good xp, quests and raids are right outside the ship portal, favor and the infamous SOS shard.
MOD because some of the loot is considered desirable and figured in to players end game builds. usually flagged every life but still haven't run this raid yet.
FoTP because TF gear. really no brainer here even though I haven't run this raid yet either. unfortunately, duping didn't help its longevity.
TS because its easy and good xp. I actually miss the wipes in Fire and Ice.
Shroud because you are progressing pretty much every run, good twink gear that is still viable into epics and a player favorite. with over level characters elite runs make it smooth.
give players a reason to run raids and want to run up to 20/40/60 completions like Shroud, FoTP or MOD than it becomes a tough choice to TR or stay at cap or keep a toon at cap while you still work on an alt. if there were 4/5/6 raids right now at end game where duping was nonexistent and you felt like you were making progress than there would be a much bigger activity at end game. the problem is for raids that don't offer anything more than twink gear, they just wont be popularly run at level. Reavers, TS and Von are the only non end game raids that are run at level nowadays. RTB really needs a restriction put on it or raise the TP cost because the ones with fat wallets or stocked up duped bypasses are going to burn through new raids within a couple months eventually losing popularity. unless, Turbine finds a way like with Shroud or FoTP or LOB where there is usually one reason or another to want to go back after getting what you want.

I don't agree with this. we need more of a reason to stay at cap and not more reasons to TR.
Having raid completions carry over IS a reason to stay at cap longer. As it stands now, it feels pointless to do ANY raiding if you're planning on TRing again. This would give incentive to stay at cap and do some raids instead of IMMEDIATELY TRing.

if your TRing you have a reason to stay at cap longer? that's a conflicting sentence.
I call staying at cap for raid completions and acquiring gear that you want for more character power or TRing for past lives for more character power a choice. some don't see it as a choice for some reason. its not like you cant beat EE content on a first life character.

I can see his point, it opens up opportunity choices.
If my Raid completions don't reset when I TR, I can cap, run raids for as long as I like without committing to 20, when I feel ready, have friends wanting to TR.. whatever..
You are free to jump into a couple Raids while levelling and know that your counter is still going.
You can change tracks and TR and it doesnt matter where the raid counter is at.
Many of the raids are a pita to flag and get a group together for while levelling.
I can flag raids and run them a few times or more if the opportunity presents, or carry on
There is no "ugh I am at 16 completions".. you guys go a head and continue your TR I am going to stay and hopefully catch a random group until I get my 20th incremental...
or ****, I am gonna lose my incrementals .. bah.. next TR I am not going to bother with those raids. ( my current feeling while doing TR's)
When doing TR lives or expecting to do TR lives and maybe run some epics to 28 to cap destinies/spheres or Iconic lives...then TR. There is no raid incentive whatsoever.
Why flag a raid (raid XP generally sucks) that you may run 6 times or 1 time when it will reset on the TR. just run Saga's for XP and/or Guild renown and skip raids all together..

In all honesty I hope that the Favor continues to reset on True Reincarnation
However, I would like to see some changes in Favor Rewards that would be beneficial to builds beyond there 1st Life.
Such as Rewards that are Static... And should probably offer other options
Examples:
House P's - Pendent of Time
Twelve - Ingredients bags
1750 Favor - +2 Tomes
Purple Dragon Knight - Key to the City & Spotted Puppy Pet
Complete Favor Rewards lists (The Twelve, Purple Dragon Knight, etc.)
Now I'm not looking for the new additional options being super powerful just something that would be worth making it to that point again.
I'm a bit mixed on the retaining of Raid completions...
On one hand my characters could show their 100s of completions on Raids (Some of which would only be a reminder of multiple 20ths that still didn't have the item I was hoping for)
It would encourage more people to participate in Raids while they are leveling (You don't need to be capped to Raid there are more than EE and HE settings)
It does remove the incentive to stay at Raiding level longer because you could run the raids each life a couple times and still get the benefits - again not sure if that is a bad thing
But at this time I would stick with the current Favor and Raid completion resets and have Turbine Examine the Favor rewards that are not useful after already achieving them or getting access to them.

Meh, I hope they don't implement an idea like favor rentention, that would really hurt free to play people who can't afford financially to buy some of the things they like by turning off the free turbine points but good, but it would also hurt the unlucky players who have to earn their +5 tomes the 5k favor way (just got one! WOOT!).
And if reincarnation were a real thing (NOte: Not putting down anyone whose religion invoilves this belief, it's just not one I share) when you came back you wouldn't still have all your job experience and education benefits, you'd have to re-earn them. Same principle here.

Yes, I was quite annoyed when I tr'd got my 2nd key to Eveningstar.. and discovered it has a shared cool down timer...
Give mean option to talk to the guy with my first one equipped and let him upgrade the item from one clickie to two.. and more...
A Eveningstar Key with 3 clickies would be handy.
a Harper pin with more clickies.. win...

I did some suggestions (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/454769-Favor-Revamp-Proposal) on this front, but always was met with mixed results. Some people just like the way favor works now, no matter how broken it is. We have some rewards that can safely be achieved only once per server (Artificer, Harper Agent), others that can be achieved once per character (Pendant of Time, PDK), others that are so good it is almost mandatory (Coin Lords, House K), and others so subpar that most people doesn't even care if they reach a favor tier with it (House J, Free Agents).
So yeah, I'm with you on a favor pass in this game.
I'm a bit mixed on the retaining of Raid completions...

Same thing here. Since I'm playing 95% of the time my main in her completionist path, I only run raids if I find them fun, and coincidentally are also flagged. I jump at every HoX/Vod I see after I get to level 16, some shrouds, VoN, Chrono and FoT if I have the time, and usually skip Abbot flagging because I hate necro 4, and don't have enough sigil pieces to run it every life.
So, if the raid counters stayed for TR (and/or favor as well), it would affect zero of my playstyle, and I don't think the negatives ("no reason" to stay at cap, only if you dont care for ML 28 gear) are comparable to the positives (more people willing to run dead raids for "an eventual 20th list sometime"). So, yeah, keep the /raid completions list through TRs. What's the worst that can happens?

Agreed.
When I am in a TR cycle I completely ignore raids or flagging if I am just going to roll back to level 1.
If completions carried thru I might bother running a few each life with the 20th list coming up instead of all progress lost.
For me...Outside of ETRs which do not reset your counters my main has only stayed at cap to get 20 shroud runs once. I've never bothered with another 20th list in all my years of play until ETR offered no reset. Those then ~60 days of being at cap farming shroud to 20th were just aweful.

new favor rewards? sure, favor not resetting after tr-ing? no!
DQ is run often in epics, so people might skip this at level. a teleporter would be nice (after 1 completion)
Titan actually takes time and effort with littlwe returns, lately i run it once per life for favor, i enjoy it but there are other, more rewarding gaols to obtain (epic pastlives for example)
LOB run is doable but boring, loot is a simpler version of shroud and the min level of it makes it use impaired compared to shroud (tier 2 should have been lv 16)
Sub raids,boring run at level
Abbot boring for the non tile runners, badly designed, besides the quiver mostly caster gear, laggy as all....
Chronoscope decent epic exp, nothing to great, i run it at level each (heroic) life for fun. loot runs are rare because of the low amount of newer players
Reavers is is something i sometimes run at level, sometimes at cap for sh!ts and giggles (a healthy dose of beer helps to(just like back then
CITW because it sucks? (sp)
TOD because they screwed up the loot and it looks depressing
FOT i run this often when i see lfm's up to help people get their comms and gear (the gs still looks nice too XD)
Von exp, beer and fun
MOD 146 runs on one toon, never again
FoTP easy to reach, boring in execution
Tempest spine, i do this every life, usually with an assortment of soulstones in my backpack, always seems to bring a healthy dose of undergeared, underpowered first life free to play peeps out of the woodwork.
Shroud nostalgic fun
to be honest, we run these raids with guild and channel members mostly for fun and to get away from the boredom of epic tr grinding at least twice a week.
