View Full Version : Enhancement trees limited to 4 categories? And "Harpers" is one?

Recently my toon Trapsp Ringer did a TR. First level was Artificer. Second was Fighter. Third Artificer again. Fourth Barbarian. And then I found that I cannot get any Barbarian enhancements. Trapsp's enhancement choices were Human, Artificer, Harper and Fighter.
I put in a ticket, and got a response pretty quickly. The customer support guy said it happens sometimes, and Lesser Reincarnation should clear it up. He mailed me an LR heart and a reincarnation timer thingy. I did an LR... with exact same results.
Made a ticket again. This time the same rep contacted me in-game, and after some discussion he sent me an LR +3 heart so I could get rid of the Fighter level entirely. The build I planned only involves one Fighter level, and I could stick it in later.
So I LR'd into Arti 2/ Barb 2. Enhancement trees are Human, Artificer, Harper and Barbarian, as they should be. Reach level 5, take Fighter level... and still only four categories. (Not four trees, because Artificer has 2 trees and Barbarian has 3.) No Fighter enhancements.
This does not bother me because I never intended to take any Fighter enhancements at all, but it suggests that DDO allows enhancements from only 4 categories: one race and up to three classes. This must have been coded before Harper tree was added, and now Harper tree is a category in itself. Does anyone else have 3 classes and Harper tree, and did they have such issue?

Did you see/try the arrow on the right side of the enhancement screen that allows you to scroll it to the side?

Yes, I scrolled to the left and to the right as far as arrows would go. Without it I could not even see all 7 present trees present at once.

Well, I dunno. I've played lots of triple classes (and using Harper), and you can always see everything by going left-right and selecting from the drop-down boxes. Usually I'll go and set all the panels to blank, and then start pulling up the trees I want on the main page so I don't have to scroll to see my stuff all the time. That sucks...

Did you also check the drop down menu under each enhancement tree that allows you to select a different tree in that section?
You can have up to 7 different enhancement trees active at a time.
If you want to replace one enhancement tree, you have to exchange it through the dropdown menu.

Ah! That did it!
So perhaps there is a display limit of 7 trees, but you can select which ones if you have more?

Yes. I usually blank them all then pull back up the ones I want.
Glad you got it resolved...but, that's pretty embarrassing for customer support.

Um. Where do you get the 10 there?
I mean, you should be able to have at least 11 class trees to choose from nowadays, and then racial and harper on top of that. Say, warforged ranger/monk/sorcerer, would have 1 racial tree + 3 monk trees + 3 ranger trees + 5 sorcerer trees + 1 harper. 12 non-racial by my count... if some of those are not accessible, I'd say it'd be a major bug, right?

Can they put points into all 5 of those trees, or does putting points into elemental trees lock out opposing trees?
That said, whatever the number of trees one has a choice of, they are limited to spending points in their Racial tree and no more than 6 of the other trees. Though they should have a choice of which 6 those are outside of other specific lock out mechanics there may be.

The sorcerer trees are divided into four elemental savants and eldritch knight. Each of the savant trees locks out the opposing element (air/earth and fire/water). So, while they have four savants, they can only ever put points into two of them (fire/air, fire/earth, earth/water, or air/water).

Probably from the build I described. Arti/Barb/Fighter. 1 racial tree, 2 Artificer trees, 3 Fighter, 3 Barbarian, 1 Harper.

There's a dev quote somewhere on the forums about it. 7 is the maximum you can actively spend points in, no matter to how many trees you have access. It's not a bug.
In the end there's only 80 AP anyway to spend.

You can also now swap the order of trees in your display by grabbing the tree icon and dragging it over another tree. This works even if you've spent points in a tree.

Oh yes, that part is not a problem. I understood the OP's problem was in not finding all the trees from which to choose the 7. (Well, the 6 non-racial that you can choose.)
The drop-down menu in there clearly isn't not easy enough to find.

Great updates to the enhancement trees, I remember they were pretty static when they first came out. I was thinking last year sometime "Wouldn't it be great if we could drag these enhancement trees around." Good news!

Well I've got Human, Ninja, Shintao, Kensai, Stalwart and KoTF on my parked main now. However, I've noticed that on another character that I couldn't select Harper stuff at all if I selected PM stuff first... but that character only has Harper, PM, AM, and EK. I'll check.
