I was feeling a little nostalgic today and thought to myself, "Hey! I still have all those old old OLD AD&D games somewhere!" So, after some searching I found the two discs that I needed and proceeded to try and install them on the laptop. Now here's the problem, the little window pops up where you can select which game to install, but when you click on one and try and install it nothing happens.

Has anyone else successfully installed any of these games on windows 8.1? Do I need a separate program to run these games?

For those of you who don't know/are too young to know what games I'm talking about, you can check it out here (http://www.mobygames.com/game/gamefest-forgotten-realms-classics).

For those of us who couldn't be bothered to click a link (like me! :D), here's the pertinent info:

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection One

Eye of the Beholder I
Eye of the Beholder II
Eye of the Beholder III

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Two

Curse of the Azure Bonds
Gateway to the Savage Frontier
Hillsfar
Pools of Darkness
Pool of Radiance
Secret of the Silver Blades
Treasures of the Savage Frontier

Forgotten Realms: The Archives - Collection Three

Dungeon Hack
Menzoberranzan
Blood & Magic

The funniest part of these games is the "copy protection". It was a code wheel, made of paper, "line up this symbol with this symbol the look at the dotted line and enter the letter in box number 3" kind of thing.

Aaaahhh, the good old days.....

OP, you might have to run the games in DOSBox. Windows 8.1 isn't anything like DOS anymore.

I kinda figured i'd have to do something like that.

On another note, while looking for "How To's" for the classics I tried to install Neverwinter Nights Diamond and Neverwinter Nights 2. I couldn't get either one of those to install either. Any tips on either one of those?

For those looking for a nostalgia trip, I recommend you take a look at this:

The Internet Archive just uploaded 1000s of MSDOS games (browser-playable), including Azure Bonds, Eye of the Beholder ( I II III), Silver Blades. I haven't really tried many of them out yet, but it looks like it could be a fun thing to try.

have no idea if this works

I do remember running around Phlan, with chars that were about 120 years old, because I didn't understand that haste aged them.

Disclaimer: I do not run windows 8.1, I run on 7 still. But for years I havent' been able to get the installs to work. I don't know 100% sure it will work on 8, but try extracting each game to it's own folder, and using the execute command inside to get it going.
