It would be great to have a trap or hidden door flag display if another party member detects them. Perhaps to any party member within earshot of the detector.
The code is already there for hirelings, would be huge improvement, yeah?

It IS a nice idea!
I do wonder if that party wide notification would help eliminate people from just zerging through traps all the time. However, I also doubt people would wait the 6 seconds for the trap to be disabled even if notified.
That 6 seconds really cuts into the xp/min formula.

:PAgreed, I'm certainly not against it - but I'm not sure how useful it would be to a party outside of static or new player groups. I imagine many vets turning it off (like tips) as most know where stuff is anyway so don't have Spot. But yeah, definitely wouldn't hurt anything to have it as an option.
Especially if I know I'm running with new players, I verbally warn of a trap - but I type way to slow for those w/o ears and experience has shown me that by the time I type "Trap" ... they've already "found" it themselves ;)

Well, there are solid workarounds in place for this, party chat and voice chat.

Probably works for hireling but not players because hirelings can't read party chat.

People run through traps either because they are sure they will survive, or because they are oblivious.
This notification would not change either of these things.

I disagree. Unexperienced and/or zerg players do not seem to be the norm. If one puts up a lfm with a friendly messege can find players that suit individual playstyles. There seems to be healthy number of medium speed happy go lucky players that know how to stay together and have fun. In my pugs most are vip or own paid content, i would not consider them casual players. This is speaking based on the sarlona server. Even amongst the tr crowd, i have been on runs with medium speed peeps.
I am willing to bet more would want this than not. From a personal note, i have been through a bunch of content and my memorization of exact trap locations seem to last maybe a week.
Oh, i should also note that the notificaton would not be intended to change anyones playstyle, just a convenience that makes sense to be in the game.

My main is a trapper. I've been doing traps since the beginning. After that many years of being a trapper I've come to realize that people just don't care.
I ALWAYS call out traps over voice chat. I specify where exactly when I can. People still zerg on by and set off the traps. (Its fine, I can carry the stones of the dead and I'll do enough traps to cover the 10% stupid people xp penalty.)
People who don't listen to voice are not likely to see party chat or an emote fast enough to make a difference either.
People will either learn to stay behind the trapper or find themselves in the trap. Its their choice.
I'd love to see trap damage increased (ones that can be disabled, I still think the E3bc falling through spikes is ridiculous). But the problem there is similar to the problem with healers. Because trappers are not absolutely needed, fewer people have them and play them. My guild has a few static groups in it and all of them include a trapper, because finding one through the LFM is too unreliable. This brings us around to the problem caused by increasing trap damage... people end up waiting for a trapper or have to run alternate content.
Anyway, I think I may have digressed some here, but on the whole, I don't want auto notification. I want the party to communicate with each other. If someone spots a trap, they should point it out. Same if they see invis enemies etc.

I like the OP's idea. Wouldn't bother me at all, and would be good for new player/parties. So why not.

Not signed. Why do you think a notification is going to do it? Not to mention, some players have way too many icons on their screen and probably won't see it.
When I group with others and I said in voice Chat "TRAP" or typed TRAP, no one listened or cared they just went in and died anyway.
If they refuse to read or refuse to listen because they are watching TV or listening to music, how is a notification going to work?
I would prefer people to learn the hard way like they already do. Run forward and hopefully die.

Again. This is not to change player behaviour, but to convenience the trapper! :)

The trapper SHOULD ALREADY BE DETECTING THE TRAPS. This in no way conveniences the trapper. If you detect a trap or door that the trapper doesn't, tell the trapper, and then kick them ASAP for not being able to do their basic job.
/not signed, useless idea
Ugh no way there shouldn't be an automatic warning based on other characters, If other people detect traps or something they can tell people if they want or not..

I can see the idea being confusing when the party is split up.

as stated in the op 'to any party member within earshot of the detector'... perhaps 15 meters from the spotter

I remember years back running with a rogue who had some way of warning in party chat. The special thing was his text was multi-colored and had all kind of fancy symbols bracketing it. I have no idea how he was doing it but it was cool.

Alias command (http://ddowiki.com/page/Alias_command), never used it myself and the wiki seems to indicate that some functionality was removed/changed awhile back.
