Elf ranger 4/rouge 2/fighter 1 first life.
stats
str 13
dex 16
con 12
int 12
wis 12
cha 12
Already used the free lesser heart :(
feats taken, dodge, mobility, spring attack, weapon focus slashing.
Current kinda idea is to run as a slightly gimp AA? Any other possibilities?

It depends on what you want to do. Are you looking to solo? Do you want to run elites on this life?
You could go melee, 15/3/2 Ranger/Fighter/Rogue.
Dex-to-damage Tempest with some points in AA to help your Manyshot burst damage when it's off timer. I haven't been a Ranger since before the enhancement pass, but the Tier 5 Tempest ability Dance of Death gets a lot of positive comments on the forum. Take 3 fighter levels to get the Stalwart Defence stance to boost your PRR.
You can get Haste Boost from Tempest (or Kensai, where I think it's cheaper) and Damage Boost from the Assassin tree - that with Manyshot gets you good burst damage potential and you should have good general offence and defence even when you're not boosted. 15 Ranger give you all 4 spell levels, take Empower Healing or Maximize to help with your self-healing and I think you've got a decent character, certainly survivable and able to contribute.
Of course, since you're only 7 levels in rerolling is an option if you really don't like where you are.

I don't really want to delete this toon, because it got some nice cakes and stuff from the DD rolls, and I don't have shared bank yet.
Not planning on soloing anything really, at least not on elite.

If you're going to be consistently in a party, another option is to take more rogue levels and get Knife Specialization from Tier 5 of the Assassin tree. That gives daggers and kukris 15-20 x3 critical profiles (with Improved Critical for piercing or slashing), and with more rogue levels you'll have extra sneak attack damage. This would be a party-based DPS and support build, since you would also have trapping skills and UMD. It would be weaker without a party, but solid in a group.

I'd go tempest ranger as suggested, dance of death is now a very good ability for aoe damage. You can take rangers lvls from now until you get ranger 12 at least for cure moderate wounds, twf feats and improved precise shot for free. then can take some fighter levels for stalwart stance, some feats like trip and stunning blow while they work easily as not intended. Maybe take 4 fighter lvl if using heavy armor for extra running speed and more defenses. Ranger 15/Fighter 3/rogue 2 is a good splash as suggested, or could go ranger 14/fighter 4/rogue 2 if using heavy armor for more prr/mrr, hitpoints from stalwart, with the option to switch to evasion when needed.
There are good scimitars you can use at those lvls like http://ddowiki.com/page/Rusted_Shamshir, or http://ddowiki.com/page/Tkorcha_Family_Scimitar or shortswords like http://ddowiki.com/page/Item:Tiefling_Assassin%27s_Blade until you get improved critical feat, can check named weapons by type here: http://ddowiki.com/page/Named_weapons_by_type . Even if you have a bit more dex, I would try to raise strength to be based on that stat because as a ranger you also have manyshot for burst damage every 2 min. (i know you could spent ap on elf for dex to dmg with bows but you can spent those ap on other useful things) Coul use precision feat if having some to hit issues while leveling. As an elf dont forget to take dragonmark feat and maybe extend spell for displascement sla.
