UPDATE: The worlds have reopened! Thank you for your patience, and we will see you in the game!

The DDO Game Servers will be brought down on Thursday, December 18th from 10:00 AM - 2:00 PM Eastern (-5 GMT) for a hotfix. Thanks for your patience, and we'll see you back in the game soon! We will post up Release Notes tomorrow.

No, the bug with Tactics DCs is not fixed in the hotfix.

Saga stones going into bags again instead of being auto-consumed like they are supposed to?

Maybe some tweaks to champions that couldn't be done "on the fly" like the last changes?

Hopefully tweaks like, "EE Champions no longer hit for 1k/shot, essentially 1-shotting most toons". That would be nice. Apparently the heroic versions are wrecking PD play as well. Some of the combos simply seem OP. I've not played in EE since the update, and I won't play in EE until random mobs no longer hit harder than raid bosses. That said, I like the idea of champions...they just need to be scaled back a bit. There should also, perhaps, be an option to play with them or play without them. Those who want a bit more challenge could opt in...those who simply want quick completions could opt out. Could be included in quest UI. I hope they do get fixed though...my main is almost back to heroic cap, and not having EE available because of OP champions would not be kewl.

Is there a reason why everyone wants EE to be easy mode? Perhaps EN should be for normal players and EH should be for a fair challenge. Maybe elite should be... dunno the word for it... let's say... Elite.

I enjoy champions, not sure I 100% agree with implementation of them, but please keep them and maybe just tweak them some.
I do think champions should be slightly more rewarding and not appear like candy from a smashed pinata on Epic Elite. I wouldn't mind harder champions but in less quanitity with greater reward. I do think champion chests should have unique items in them that can only drop from champion chests in specific areas.

Hmms...

yeah I think with some work Champions could be amazing.


I also want a champion crown for my pets...

I think champion mobs in slayer zones and extra slayer track for them would be grand.

The problem is with society. Today everyone feels they are entitled and deserves a trophy just for showing up.

Elitist a little? I do indeed enjoy challenge...that's why I play EE. I don't think it should be "easy mode", and I don't think jaded completionists should have sole claim on it's play. I play it alot. I enjoy it alot. I die very little, though I very rarely lead kill counts. The EE crowd I run with have filled me in on how champions are one-shotting folks with 1k HP. Is that ok with you? Should EE be caster and ranged territory again? Isn't that why the armor changes were implemented? Do melee have no place in EE then?

I'm a multi-life toon. I have gear. I have the knowledge it takes to play in EE. I don't always have over 1k hp. I get hit. I take damage. I really like the idea of champions. I really dislike the idea of random mobs rendering EE soley caster/ranged territory. I HATE the idea of random mobs hitting harder than raid bosses.

I really don't we disagree about EE as much as you imply. I don't think everyone should be able to take a first life toon (likely with a bad build and questionable gear) and dominate EE. They should get owned. They do. I simply don't think random mobs should be empowered to render EE unplayable for melee toons. Especially well geared multi-lifers...like myself and the folks I run with...

Good luck in your travels. Please try to be kinder to posters...and those underpowered and undergeared newbies that would benefit more from your advice than your contempt.

The only thing I disagree with you here is your statement regarding EE being caster and ranged territory again. Granted the two characters I was testing with were melee spec'd high hp (1200 - 1500), high ac (206-211), high prr (230-250), high mrr (not sure) builds. One is my FIRST original character from 2006. He's never been TR'd so he is a first lifer. He is geared...decently. The second was a second life Pali (first life was a melee sorc) with sub-par gear. I had very few issue with champions. I liked the challenge and want it back...as it was.

People should build characters to survive EE. If they don't and come to the forums to complain they will get no sympathy from me. Why should I take lessons from people who demand and expect to walk through EE content without any effort?

I'm not asking EE feel like EN. I'm not here asking for your compassion. I don't know you, and could honestly care less how you feel about champions. I certainly don't need personal attacks implying I'm a whining crybaby asking to be able stroll through EE content. I agree people should be building for endgame if they want to survive EE. I do. I don't mind the effort of dealing with EE mobs. I find them much more invigorating than EH/EN. It's active and demands attention. These are good things.

Random trash mobs hitting harder harder than raid bosses is not kosher. Period. If what I've heard from my crowd is accurate (and I have every reason to believe it is...they didn't ETR/TR when I did, so they are still actively playing EE), then there must be some broken mechanism that at least occasionally rears up to empower a random mob to hit geared toons for more damage than I've ever received from a raid boss. That's broken. That's not challenge, it's punishment. I could care less how you feel about it, and I certainly don't need a snarky reply.

Devs, if you are listening, please examine the champions to determine what combination of buffs is creating random gen mobs to hit harder than raid bosses. Don't make things easy. Don't lower the challenge of EE. Don't get rid of champions (I rather like the challenge). Simply make it so they never, under any circumstance, hit harder than a raid boss.

Thank you for your efforts. Thank you for champions. Thank you for the new content. I've enjoyed running the HE content my main is running through now. It amps the challenge at times, though not in a bad way like I've heard from EE (my PD friends would disagree though...they seem to be having trouble adjusting).

Underpowered and undergeared newbies should be running norm & hard to cut their teeth, learn mechanics and aquire gear before EE's. EE's are supposed to be hard which they haven't been for a while.

I've actually been finding a use for my throwing weapons. Its slow but you can work your way across by seeing if they stick in or not in the Crucible.

Combine grievous damage with complete fort negation isn't challenge. It's random. Why is adjusting and fixing a poor mechanic 'easy mode' and keeping a poor mechanic 'a challenge' when at most it's an insignificant bump and at times because of the random nature of champion spawn entirely silly (like a HP boost to mundane things like black puddings). I'm all for challenge but it's silly and immersion killing to have shadow rats that do more damage and take longer to kill than actual bosses.

This shows how poor this instrument is, in fixing the idea of 'challenge'. Finally, why do you care if they make champions an option? You would clearly run with champions and others wouldn't. A personal choice, hopefully with additional rewards for including it. But with no implication what so ever to you or anyone else if others run without it. Who cares? If you want the extra challenge of randomness, good for you. If others don't, who cares.

Most people who run EE build for it. There's a misconception that 'causuals' runs EE content and it's simply not true.

And it's silly to punt the fact that the champion system have broken mechanics as people just whining. One shooting players is simply bad - and having some encounters where creatures get 10x normal HP is just plain wrong. No one is demanding to walk through EE content without effort. Not one single person. That's a straw man argument that people keep erecting instead of addressing the fact that random champion encounters add gluts of plainly broken mobs.

The reason, in most cases, that EE at times get trivial is that people have indeed built characters with great gear and past life combinations including multi-class exploiter builds that can in most cases complete EE without breaking a sweat. And random champion encounters is not going to fix that. But maybe a re-balanced diff setting, like say legendary can. And I rather have a diff setting that is tailor made for superior builds than adding random features that are at most cases no more difficult than before, but creates these odd random gluts that can at times be entirely broken.

But I do wish one thing tho; bring back the orange named champion. It was more interesting to me when orange mini bosses where mostly champions since that made them more interesting.

Im not sure how many players actually play PnP version of D&D but imagine, sitting with ur friends at a session with ur lvl 11 party and ur GM pulls out a random mob list, throws his dices and and tells u ur facing a lvl 20 beholder and BOOM, dead because thats what it felt like when i was running Jungle elite 2 days ago. Lucky dog could get 1 stone back so we had a shrine. Which u normally dont have in PnP... ;)

Think thats what upsetting ppl, not the actual challenge of having harder mobs...

But like that poster is saying, not the issue here. There is a super Champ combo that is x2 - x3 times stronger then any of the bosses. (The Issue Stated)

Yes we understand that you guys like that challenge and yes we believe it should be hard on a EE like less then 50% chance to complete.
Not a 1% - 5% chance like it has been.

Set it up so a lvl 22 - 24 3rd lifer in a 22 - 24 EE should be able to complete with a 22-24 Toon in a party size of their choice (non-raid), and not have to be 28 and 30 to do a lvl 22 - 24 EE.

Now as for the stuff that is 28 - 30 content, ya make it hard very hard,
but in no way should a lvl 22 quest on EE be stronger and harder then a difficultly lvl on 26 EH is the issue or a 29 normal. and i believe that sums it up.

Talking with others, about a full third of affected players do not have the glitch solved after relogging.
I for sure didn't.

Using thrown/ranged weapons to mark floors works [in the crucible bridge], at least.

Though then, with lag being what it has been lately [not especially bad persay, compared to certain past examples, but with lots of stuttering], you'll end up falling nonetheless.

Hopefully a fix for shinto monk that use both Enhancement- Med of war & ED US. Str of vit so that they don't cancel each other out completly? *edit* been waiting awhile for this one.

Probably they'll fix some enhancements giving healing amp as a percentage instead of a rating.

Well said Ironforge. I remember when I came back from a short break my friend/guild leader asked me to come and run a Foundation with him on ee. I grabbed my Barbarian and well not 5 minutes in, I died like 4 times. He said to me Dude you gotta tweak that toon some and asked me what gear I had for him etc etc. I ended up just Tring him after he told me the whole Barbarians are lacking bit. By the way I now solo that quest on ee and pretty quickly too. Its fun.

The Champions remind me of random (and sometimes not) named mobs in Diablo 2 and are a great addition to the game, I only wish they came with a modest XP say 100xp/level.
EE is not meant for solo breeze thru play it is meant to be challenging for a party. shame on the old players for getting down so bad on this addition, I find it refreshing....at points annoying and tough, but a welcome addition.

well,just saying not every character should be suprised at dyin' in elite sometimes...alot of the nerf is commin from Elite runners getting one shot-we know that is not the paladins;so srry soft mage -that is life and death with d4 hit points. & Newbs and favor 1st lifers coasting along , is funny how much that we have,but that's cool- just dont be shocked when you get one shotted.....srry deadly krack ship is not an elite free pass like alot think.

I have not been 1 shotted by a champion yet. Yet.. Yay for me.. :) I like the addition of the Champions but I believe they need some tweaking. Maybe some more Xp if there going to spawn like the way they do on EE Or an extra chest or 2.. I think they were added in to just slow us tr's down some. I mean that is too easy.

Let's just add some mobs with crowns over there heads and give them 100k hit points. No creativity at all. Kinda lame but oh well.

No, the XP gem dupe fix was rolled back in the update. Instead of consuming it when you click it from the list, it puts a gem in your bag. This isn't supposed to work this way anymore because it can be duped.

Personally I like the champs, but do have some reservations about them as well. Getting 10 free chests for killing the mummy in HHE is always nice, but nicer if in looting/killing them you got a bit of xp.

Being hit for 300 damage from a shaman's lightning bolt in HE WW is a pain when running back for favor on an iconic life, but could be a note to have some loose interest early on in the game. Calling out your skill in running things on EE is pointless, people have been asking for EE to be harder/easier from the start of epic (that's what got us epic difficulties to start with). The fact that red/orange named champions are a bit OP is true regardless of personal ignorance in wanting to admit it. The regular Champions though add a nice perk to the game, pulling a mob of monsters to kill and not seeing that a few of them have ts, debuff your fort, and really love the look of soul stones makes for a chance you could die in a place you never thought hard prior.

My largest issue with champions though is the fact that I have yet to pull a seal/shard from one. Still looking for a few seals/shards to complete all the desert and web items and would like to be able to have an additional 30 chests a run of ADQ to speed that along. An easy button on out dated, mostly useless items, would calm my inner packrat.

I still would like to know what the hot fix is about - this is a DDO news sub-forum not a whiner for all symposium, there is a free discussion sub-forum and you can all go there and cry to your heart's content -

On topic, I am about 99% certain it is the saga gem - had 2 this morning that did not auto consume but still curious what this is all about

Well they did mention the floors which are there yet they are not ...

But for a hot fix there is typically a reason: game-breaking fix, exploit fix or money.

I know of at least one issue that will cost Turbine money: you can no longer buy an augment from vendors using Astral Shards. They simply refuse the trade!
That is not good for the bottom-line. :cool:
I reported it last week or so and I kind of expect them to fix it in this hot fix.


Then add-in some other annoyances which have been fixed recently, but are not yet released.

sounds like fishy activity... you click on it and it dissapears ,unless some fudgin w a cable is goin on! or lag maybe

whatever - I clicked on reward and it went to inventory and stayed there same as old bug - however you may think it happened, I could care less - may the lag of a thousand ddo consume you and have a happy death being one shotted by champions - good times BTW, I for one would be ecstatic to be one shotted on ee - wait a minute, happens to me all the time, even before the champions, would be pointless to play if you always win.

Im not sure how many players actually play PnP version of D&D but imagine, sitting with ur friends at a session with ur lvl 11 party and ur GM pulls out a random mob list, throws his dices and and tells u ur facing a lvl 20 beholder and BOOM, dead because thats what it felt like when i was running Jungle elite 2 days ago. Lucky dog could get 1 stone back so we had a shrine. Which u normally dont have in PnP... ;)

Think thats what upsetting ppl, not the actual challenge of having harder mobs...

I've had a GM toss a CR35 dragon against our lvl 11 toons. We RAN for our lives. He does this regularly and lets the players decide if they're going to die. Noobs die, experienced PnP players retreat, or diplo.

Champions get 2 thumbs up from me and the occasional finger or two.

I seem to recall the Wandering Monster Chart for those quests had some pretty tough beasties if the DM rolled a 99 or 100.

Of course in PnP you can run away and don't need to kill the monster for a door to open.

Fixed an issue where Astral Shards, Saga Rewards and other items were not properly automatically being consumed when acquired.

I'm guessing this would be the main reason for the sudden hotfix.

it was most of what people guessed the saga stones, as, and other things that could be exploited or lose them money but i know it is asking a lot but how bout fixing the lfms switching toons to join a group is tedious to say the least and this is the second full update 3 hotfixes and one or two patches later and there is still no time to fix it?? Nice about the floors though that was annoying in quests like the crucible!

We're an hour and a half away from the scheduled uptime. They probably have no idea if they'll hit the mark or not.... Sheesh. And they are on schedule more than they're not. In fact, they're ahead of schedule more often than they've had to extend the time.

"respnsive" charachter controls, glitch free mouselook, semi-intelligent auto targeting, really smooth...

taking into account how perfect world, prolly the worlds 3rd most awful developer, got this working glitchfree on the day of the open-beta start,
you should be ashamed that you failed to adress this since thwo-thousand-freakin-10(actually even earlier, i started in 2010)!
instead your putting effort in misspelled tooltips and other neglectible ui-related stuff, get the MAIN INPUT DEVICE, and yes thats the mouse,
other that you apparently might think, working properly!

looking at the content of the patchnotes all i can do is shake my head.
i dont see any gamebreaking glitches that were sorted out with this "hot-fix" on the patchnotes(on my very primetime).
icons not beeing displayed "properly"(whatever that means) is a poor excuse for taking down the servers on such an
unapropriate point in (day)time.

can you really live with the knowledge that the guys who messed up startrek online did something better than you did? *cough* :p

well ******** you have done it again... not a major exploit so hey lets shut it ll down and fix this minor issue.

if onlt ladder glitches spawned loot or xp then they would get fixed.. if the dupeing cut into their bottom line it would of been fixed sooner, i guess no one buys sp or xp pots from the store.

with all the major bugs and exploits you choose to shut down and PTCH for the saga xp gems?? why is it such a bad thing to leave them alone??? has the player not earned the reward?? hevr they not the right to do with their items as they see fit?? why cant they be saved so thaat we could say avoid class past lifes lvlv in classes we dislike?? i assume it i sso we are forced to buy ottos boxes for 50$ each.... but you could of just fixed the card dupeing when it started and possibly made more from the sales of heal pots or xp pots or sp pots.. hell even raid bypasses lost sales in the store had to hurt.

but in the end only the lazy and wealthy players buy te ottos boxes.. the good players and the impovderished have no need to skip 2 mill xp for 50$$.... unless ist a crappy pl you need for completionist and you hate playing the class.

hey this might be a new biz model... allow the explouits of 90% of store inventories.. thn the remaining 10% build the game atround a dependancy.. make a ton of new classes no one wants to play and then charge 150$ for the 2 mill xp stone only.. this should get you a few more pennies into your coffers and will have the added effect of moving us complaining bemused players to something more stabil.


oh and just to say it..... A HOT FIX IS APPLIED IN A WORING ENVIRONMENT.. WHEN YOU SHUT THE SERVERS DOWN IT IS CALLED A 'PATCH'..

JUST TO CLARIFY A LIL... CLOSING DOWN THE LOGIN AND GAME WORLD SERVERS TO AFFECT A CHANGE TO GAME CODE IDS CALLED A PTCH.... NOT A HOT FIX, A HOTFIX TAKES PLACE IN A WORKING FULLY FUNCTIONAL ENVIRONMENT AND DOESD NOT RQUIRE SERVERS TO BE CLOSED TO APPLY.

MAYBE IF YOU HIRED PEOPLES THAT USE TERMINOLOGY CORRECT YOU MIGHT GET A BETTER QUALITY OUT OF THE CODE THEY PRODUCE..

I like the new champions. We ran an EE Caught in the Web the other night with a seasoned, well equipped raiding group. 2 hours later, bashed, bruised, beaten and out of rez scrolls, we were completely defeated.

Not a single person in the group complained about it.

What we heard was, "Well, I guess I'll need to gear up better next time".

This is false IMO.

NWO online is broken in a thousand ways.

Things that are suppose to apply effects don't, things that are supposed to proc don't,

They fix one thing over there and break another.

They have persistent unresolved balance issues made worse by PvP (perma-stealth rogues, stun-lock melee etc etc etc).

The difference is in NWO your actions and movement are restricted and simplified and there is only, what? 8 non-inventory buttons to hit?

In other words, in NWO your guy does a little hand wave animation and the little sparkles come off you every time, glitch free, but that doesn't mean anything actually happened as a result.

You can take aim at DDO for glitches but don't use NWO as any kind of example.

Some seem to slip in from time to time. Have had one so far in HoX, though not looking to much at a lot of the adds b4 they die in many of the raids. Can tell you MoD has yet to have any, but I think DQ might have had a fire elemental pop once as we walked past it.

They are not to be in Raids.

Still not seen a screenshot that proves otherwise.
