View Full Version : Quest Difficuly Scaling -- Possible Idea

Please don't shoot me down if this has already been suggested but I wondered about the possibility of introducing difficulty scaling based on the number of times you have run a quest.
eg. If you decide to run Harverdasher 10 times on elite each time is more difficult than the last
This does make some assumptions though that Turbine keep a log of how many times you have run each quest and in a grouping (rather than solo) situation it would sum the total of all members of the group to apply the scaling modifier (but they already scale dungeon difficulty due to the number of players so how hard can it be to implement ...).
For those who like running Epic Elite it could potentially make quests scale to a point where they are simply too difficult but that in itself could be a challenge for those people who find EE easy. In addition if Turbine were to introduce a league table showing the top number of runs at each difficulty level by player it would allow players to see how they fair against others.
Anyway what do other people think

i like it but itd have to have a cap on the difficulty increase or something. and then eventually that too gets easy. otherwise good ee loot would be impossible to farm for which is something people expect to be able to do.

It is a good idea and i would be for it.
Issue is people who run en would find the "normal" scaling to hard and would complain and shoot the idea faster then you can imagine. EE player have nothing against harder difficulty, en players have something against it.
And those would never allow a difficulty to scale up

Turbine could limit the scaling to Elite and Epic Elite

I don't see most of the EE crowd being in favor of it, either. They just want to invis through quests as fast as possible. There are one or two people who would like it, but not, I predict, the majority.

Seems like it would take way too many dev hours to even consider this idea. Taking the time to create 10+ different versions of each dungeon? Yikes.

I as hoping it would be simple to change to way the dungeon scaling works (eg. by using simple multiplier to the number of monsters and number of hp). I had no idea that this would require the creation of a complete set of dungeon instances.
I'll climb back in my box :(

Yeah I'm pretty sure it's not that simple. I think monsters have to be redesigned individually. On the other hand, I'm not a DDO dev so only they know for sure how easy or hard it would be.
Not a fan of the idea anyway. We already have a system to discourage quest farming - XP and chest ransack.
