... the first +5 tome dropped (no mabar, no dice roll, no store buying) for me. If I extrapolate I will finally get a full set in 2039.

Maybe you rethink your ridiculous drop rates.

Slightly faulty math. +5 tomes have not existed for 5 years, but a fraction of that, and for most of that time they have only dropped in content and on a difficulty setting almost no one runs (EE FOT and CitW up until a few months ago). So you've had a VERY TINY chance at a very tiny chance to pull a +5 tome. An extremely small sample size is never a solid base to create a good rant on.

Should they tweak the drop rates up a little? Sure. But maybe consider supporting the game that's given you 5 years of cheap as dirt entertainment, or maybe look at tomes as a long term loot goal like eSoS's and eSSR etc. and be happy you have an excuse to keep playing content. A win win situation.

Since when do rants base on solid maths?

We agree, nice.

I support the game by buying all content and different cosmetics. I always refused to buy p2w articles, it was turbine who changed its tactics. The game wasnt p2w at all before 2012. And the tome drop rates where good. It is faulty game design if it has to rely on p2w.

You think it is a motivating long term goal to run tons of quests just for getting the tomes you need, when everyone can instantly buy them in store? Or go completionist, when turbine put a price label on it by providing ottos?

Where did you pull it ?:D

I think the only place i pulled a +5 was the 5k favor reward :d.

Don't forget that there's a good chance that some of the tomes you DO get are ones you already had. So unless you can trade them for ones you need, it'll take even longer.

Not sure if I'm understanding correctly, are you saying buy tomes? If so then No!

There are plenty of others ways to get people to buy things, tome drop rates are a joke and need to be improved

I support the game with my subscription. Apparently it is not enough nowadays.

When offered the chance to get a tome in the store or to grind to death certain content that is known to drop them more often, most people with a steady income will choose to buy it. This is the reasoning turbine is using with a lot of their store options.

In the meantime, what is the game offering? The engine and mechanics are good, but the replay value tends to be quite bad (over time, content depreciates quite fast). I understand that selling power is easy money, but perhaps they need to offer more than that to keep people playing.

For anyone who finds they are spending a bit too much time playing DDO for their taste I recommend staying at cap. Fastest cure.

To my mind, a +5 tome is a pretty darned fantastic thing. The main reason I was sad to see Mabar go away was because of the ability to get them. I managed to get one tome during that last event, and no augments. :(

However, I have managed to get several of my toons into multiple +3 tomes, and even the occasional +4. Tomes are one of those things that can very easily initiate excitement. I smile when I pull one rather than complaining about how long it took.

So let me see if i understand correctly: You got a +5 tome, and are unhappy because you havent got more of them yet?

Oh, dear...

I don't believe that it is intended for players to get these very rare items from the game. I believe it is intended to get them from the store. Increasing drop rates would reduce store sales.

RNG is very stupid. I have never agreed with a system where a loyal player can never receive something even if they grind for it but a brand new player can get that item on their first try. The only reason I put up with RNG in MMOs at all is because the game tracking how many times you've done everything in the game in order to eventually guarantee a reward is very memory intensive.

What you said is the precise reason why I rarely "grind" for a particular thing. I play the game, and stuff that I can use comes to me.

Or go completionist, when turbine put a price label on it by providing ottos?Seeing how I remember running a single raid (ToD) every 3 days for idk how long as it was the only source for +4 Tomes, having now multiple options to run for +5s (raids + Necro quests, and presumably soon ToEE if not also Epic Madness quests) seems like a win to me ;)

As for the "buy it now" option for Tomes & PLs... So what? Most of the folks I know who did are also in the "theres nothing to do" crowd; I think it would suck to run out of things to do/play for/advance towards and see no reason to expedite achieving that "nothing left to do" state by spending my way to make it happen. If other folks have more money than patients, and choose to go that rout - it's on them that they've "nothing left to do."

So much ^this!^

OP complains that after 5 years they just finally pulled a +5 Tome (which as only been around for a recent fraction of that time), should I start a whine that after all these years I just finally got my first Sword of Shadows (ever, on any of my characters) last Wednsday night? Hell no, I was stoked!

I completely agree - I don't grind except during Festivals because they are limited time. And even then I don't grind as much as many.

It still isn't a fair system when you can play for years even without grinding and someone can get something you haven't on their very first try.

If you manage to 5k favor (not a short goal, unless you have many friends or many ppl in the same boat) then you are almost at a 2nd +5 one, just from the TP you are given for the favor marks.

For puggers its not overly good news, but at least it is a possibility/alternate way to get +5 tomes.

All events offering a turn-in option would be very decent too.

I used to get em all the time running ee von 6. I mean really just over and over. I got a wis and a str once. I think that was the same time that the shards fell in the chest to. Thier were I believe 3 of them, 3 or 4. Was the damndest thing to see that many esos shards in a box lol.

Haven't seen any since, so I think maybe we broke the box hahaha.

I am always confused by these posts because a few +4 to +5 upgrade tomes drop for me every month in Haunted Halls. I am far from a grinder, but they drop alot for me especially in the end dragon chests and very end chest.

And they'll have good luck about different things. I haven't pulled any +5 tomes, but my first bard (Attickus of Sarlona) pulled a Torc on I believe his second time running the sands raid.

One of the most exciting things I can remember in DDO was one of the times my first rogue (Oldero of Sarlona) ran the Reaver raid, and a guy passed me a +3 Dex tome. My first ever +3 tome, and it was one that was incredibly useful for the toon! :D

I had a +4 to +5 WIS tome drop for me on my 2nd or 3rd EN Thunder Peak run a week or so after Thunderholme was released.
