View Full Version : What is the most run quest in DDO?

Defined as, the quest with the greatest number of individual completions by characters.

I can think of a few candidates. The Shroud has been farmed daily by full parties for as long as it's been out, and is still run constantly. The Reaver's Fate could also be one - though not run as often now, it was out before The Shroud and was for years run just as obsessively.

Is there a definitive answer to this question - some way of finding out for certain? Does anyone know? I'm just curious. :)

Even though it is not the best XP/min quest in the game I'd wager Von3.

I would have to imagine VoN3 would be right up there, until the XP nerf that is.

EDIT: lol you beat me Oxar :P

It's still probably one of the most pugged, always on the LfM.

over the entire game's life?

Has to be shroud. That raid had 2 LFMs up at all times for a long stretch of DDO's life.

VoN 3 is not run so much anymore after the XP nerf.

So it's not The Grotto?

So it's not The Grotto?

Oh it's probably grotto. But all those players quit the game before level 11 on their first life.

I would say that house of rusted blades is probably up there. So many people ran that to death to grind out destinies when the cap was 25.

If I were to make a realistic estimate though, probably the shroud as it was run constantly from 2007 to 2012.

So it's not The Grotto?

Nah, it is the grotto followed by crucible (not that either of those quests are completed).

Completed, I would say grotto followed by von3.

Kobalds Ring Leader. Remember that most new players don't make it past level 10 and reroll many different builds in lower levels. Then all the TRs usually run it a few times at least.

/derail

How about the least run quest? Stealer of souls?

Qezuzu

Probably one of the high-XP quests. Definitely VON3, because it's good at heroic and epic. Shroud was ran constantly but it has the raid timer.

Stealer of Souls is definitely a contender. The Titan raid also, people only ever run it for the novelty now.

Kobold's New Ringleader was my immediate guess.

I had played DDO for over 5 years by now. During that time I ran Stealer of Souls once, and the Titan raid never.

I still run SoS, just for the heck of it. I would personally run Forge and Titan solo, if it was not a pain to do so or if hirelings were allowed into raid areas.

I think the most run quests currently are the daily xp milk quests. All time possibly something short xp farm /TR cycle.

Lords of Dust?

Dreaming Dark would also be one, but not as much nowadays since not as much people are wanting Pale Lavenders as before.

In the history of the game?
For comparisons I'd go with #total completions divided by time available in-game.
If only that information was available.

Most completions?
Waterworks was run over and over and over way back in the day for low level xp and loot.
Shroud was permanently in the lfms for years.
Possibly kobold's new ringleader simply on back-to-back repetition.

I'd go with shroud.

Least completed?
Demon's Den.

Last year definatelly eda and von3 for most run. There's almost always one public on.

Least has to be titan.

At least on Thelanis VoN3 on EH is still one of the most run quests I see in the LFM panel. Shroud? I see one LFM a day if that.

Do you run the Grotto every life? I run it every year or two for the hell of it, but the amount of times I've run the Grotto pales in comparison to how many times I've run most of the heroic raids - or even the waterworks. Yeah, all new players run it, but taking into account the multiple TRs that skip it, it balances out. Factoring in favor runs, the 4 Kothos quest are run even way more than the Grotto.

Me too--totally agree

Good point. Don't we wish, though, that this game was attracting so great a number of players that we all first thought 'Grotto?'

By the number of completitions definitely rusted blades.

But von3 will take over in time since noone runs rusted anymore for farm purpose

With Dragontouched Armor not being that great anymore, SoS is one of those at-most-once-per-life-for-favor sorts of quests.

Titan, on the other hand, is, 1) a lot more fun, and 2) has more relevant loot. I just hit my 20th completion on Titan this life alone, and had a full or close-to-full group for most of those runs.

Yes, lots of people never bother flagging for or learning Titan, but those who do may well run it quite a few times.

I agree, that quest was run literally dozens of times a day for months by most people, but once people figured out that impossible demands was arguably even faster to window farm that caught up a lot. If I had to make a list of top 10 it would probably be:
Shroud - too many years ahead of Eveningstar and the peak of Von3 to be caught yet
Rusted Blades - had a reasonably short run, but the grind during that run was pretty unrivaled
Von3 - took over for RB, enjoyed a good run of time and is still popular
Impossible Demands - was farmed like RB, just not by as many people for as long
Waterworks chain - I mean, everyone that gets past level 4 runs this every life, often multiple times/life, and it's F2P if I recall
Delera's Chain (especially part's 2 and 4) - another great farm like WW, more XP just not F2P
Dreaming Dark - how many hundreds of runs have we all done for PL?
House of Death Undone - see Impossible Demands - I farmed this one a ton at some point
Korthos Chain - every life for most people
Grotto - every new player and new character
honorary mention - Shadow Crypt, Kobolds New Ringleader, Crystal Cove, Mabar

Least run?:
I agree with Titan and Demon's Den, though Necromancer's Doom has to be up there.

This. Agree the raid isn't run that much by many people, but those of us who played or are still playing it keep the completions up.
I have over 70 completions on my characters.
Only the Von series and Shroud have I raided more.

Abbott is the only raid I've never gotten around to running, but I realize that it has been run quite a lot by many people.

The only quest in the game I've run exactly one time (and vowed never again) was Demon's Den.

Good point about rusted blades. I actually skipped the farming frenzy on that one and TRd. Lots of people seem to have a much higher tolerance for self-inflicted grind than I do... which is interesting considering the complaints about grind on the forums.

Shadowcrypt is one of, if not the best heroic window farms in the game. Problem is:
1) it provides so much XP it's only good for a handful of runs per life before you have to level out of it
2) that level is filled with tons of other great XP quests, like VON3
3) the flagging mechanism means you can't repeat it unless you window farm it or have a flagged 2-boxer who can open
4) no epic version, where VON3 can be run 50+ times per life for the 6.6 million XP you need, for leveling destinies, or for doing ETR grind

So it gets played a lot, but not as much as the others listed I think

Crucible is awesome also, but due to the difficulty (heroic traps, and general PITA factor of maze, puzzles, etc) and length I think most people run it only a couple of times per life.

Gianthold quests are also played often, good xp, some mid level epic loot, also Lod chain is played a lot by both free to pays and others. but probably Von 3 is the most played for xp and because most ppl know it.

Anyone want to nominate epic Spies in House?

Good call, should probably have cracked my top 10... though I'm still not sure it's as popular as VON3 (even now) due to people not being as aware of it and some people not liking it despite being better XP and better XP/min. Certainly VON3 was much more popular for a long time before the XP nerf.

Kobold's ringleader gets run at most 5 or 6 times now in a character's early life. For people on the eTR train VoN3 is run every day. VoN3 LFMs always fill no matter the time of day. Seems to me far and away the most run quest. The XP nerf really didn't hurt it because it is still outstanding XP and when run in conjunction with Wiz King and Spies a huge chunk of daily XP.

hard to say what is best, i like many contents, desert, amrath, all necro,, reavers refuge, first expansion, haunted halls, almost all raids in game, pretty sure i forgot to say few things but those are first i can imagine

Least run? The Faithful Departed. I bet there are people playing for years who've never found their way through the Shrouded Vale...

Most run? Heyton's Crypt. Back in the day, we'd run it on all difficulties to get enough XP.

it's either von 3 or litany of the dead

people used to run those quests like 8 or 9 times every past life

lord of dust probably close 2nd now since the sages came around.

shroud could only be fully completed once every 3 days so its def
not the shroud.. if we re talking about sheer completions.

Right, but back in its prime there was rarely a time when at least one Shroud wasn't in the LFM panel. We're talking the game's whole life here, not currently most run quest.

VON3 has always been a high-XP quest, people would run it many times in TRs. Shroud has a timer by the way.

Without a doubt, once upon a time it was Euphonia's Mission (http://ddowiki.com/page/Euphonia%27s_Mission).

I would think Durk's Got a Secret is very popular - you will complete to farm Muckbane, so many players lightly grind out the Muck for each character they have or when they hop to a new server.

Timer or no timer, it was standard practice to run it 20 times/life for a long time

Timer or no timer, it was standard practice to run it 20 times/life for a long time

The problem with litany is the masses never flag for it (even today). Many power gamers did not (do not) flag for it. The random chance of getting all the sigil pieces to flag was a a complete turn-off, not to mention the quests, aside from Vol, are tough for many players to solo.

By the time they changed the drop rates for sigil pieces, along with shield, tome and taps, most gamers found other ways to accrue xp, especially after BB was implemented.

So, overall, litany would have to be pulled into the top 10 by a very small minority of players xp farming it. Not sure there were (or are) enough runs there compared to many other quests.
