I've been out of it for a while. Last time I played was just after Enhancements got overhauled. Basically, I have a character I'm thinking about TRing, but I wanted to try and fish for a few ideas before I did it.

The character has previous lives as a Monk and a Rogue (1 of each), and both lives he was fairly self sufficient. That was really what I liked about the character, especially on the latest life where I went Rog12/Monk6/Pal2. Good survivability, ability to self heal easily, trap/lock skills and I got to use a build I'd wanted to for a while (Staff DPS).

The biggest limiting factor is that the race must be either a Halfling or a Dwarf (Surname is 'the four foot fury', so I am sticking to that). I'm not opposed to the idea of playing a caster or something far removed from the agile types he started as, but I don't want to TR without a plan.

Anybody got any interesting suggestions or ideas?

As a starting point, i'd suggest paladin16/fighter2/rogue2, or maybe p15/f2/r3 - go heavy armour with points in sacred defender & knight of the chalice, then some in acrobat for the staff use stuff & can still use the staffs you've already got... the critical bonuses from the holy sword spell (it's a weapon imbue now instead of summoning one) are competence & won't stack with the capstone from acrobat or henshin, so you can have less there. Don't worry about lack of evasion, the PRR & MRR from the plate will give you enormous resilience regardless.

A few questions:

Why Paladin? Not that I mind it. I do find Paladins fun, but it seems an odd choice for that setup.
Why Rogue 2? If I am going Heavy Armor, Evasion is useless. What benefit would a second level of Rogue give?
Which race do you think, Halfling or Dwarf? If I'm going to be using Heavy Armor, Dex would be mostly wasted and the hit to Strength would probably be a bad call as well. If I am understanding this build right it is a Strength Staff build instead of the Dex staff build I used before.

Just wanna make sure I am understanding what you are suggesting right.

- Paladin has the great blend of healing, defences, divine might for extra strength & the change to holy sword spell gives your weapon +1 to critical threat & multiplier (also +1W & +2 enhancement bonus but iirc these are being nerfed in u24), plus divine sacrifice etc...
- 2 rogue levels give quick strike & haste boost, 3rd level gives improved glancing blows & sweeping strikes for an extra cleave-type attack.
- For race, i'd say dwarf, if you can fit them in add the dragonmark for radiant shield which will boost your resilience even further, but isn't particularly essential... halfling would still work perfectly well - slightly less strength but that honestly won't make a huge difference, so if you prefer their dragonmarks, go for it - it's basically a matter of stronger & harder to hurt but less CHA vs. super self-healing capabilities.
