View Full Version : Is Akamai still needed?

Hi,

Haven't been playing for about 8 months now after the Akamai 'showdown'.

My old client still requires to accept Akamai. If I download the game anew, can I install and play without ever accepting Akamai?
Was in Ghalland.

I know there are pylotros and ways to circumvent but I'm bit too lazy to start working with those. Would like to use official stuff. And I know I could have dozen computers or OS partitions for 'damage control' but not interested to work on those either.

And please do not go on trolling about I'm paranaoid cause I already know I am:cool:

I have uninstalled Akamai from a couple of my machines and DDO runs just fine.

I think other folks will chime in as well with something about uninstalling after downloading DDO is fine.

Cheers,
Mudd

Thanks,

Strange, there was one answer before yours, saying something like new installs won't need Akamai and 'old Akamai installers' could pose a threat. I wonder why that reply vanished something like within 5 minutes....

My personal prob is that I wouldn't want to install it even for the download so I guess my initial question remains hovering in the air like a beholders ars_ ;):D

Hey Aughter,

The initial download stub program for DDO will install the Akamai client. However, it isn't required after the full setup download is complete or for subsequent updates or patches. If you want to bypass this entirely and avoid Akamai altogether, Stoner81 has the full setup files available (Windows only, Shadowfell revision) in this thread (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/446874-Dungeons-and-Dragons-Setup-Files-(Windows)).

Best of luck!

I am in the same boat you are brother!

I had to get a new SSD, and found out this happens:

https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/451392-Pylotro-will-not-work-with-new-SSD-w-DDO

I don't want to have anything to do with Akamai either. So I hit quit on the agreement when it comes up.

But looks like I am stuck cos I have to have the: client_local_English.dat file or it won't work.

I wonder if DDO-ML will work, it will probably need that file as well & I have no idea how to do it without getting Akamai or accepting the agreement.

If anyone has any tips or advice for a workaround that would be greatly appreciated!
