View Full Version : Thinking of returning to DDO. Can you catch me up?

So about... a year and a half ago I started to drop out of the DDO scene. I actually found out going back that I officially quit DDO 1 year ago, though I had been playing other MMOs at that point. Anyway, after being frustrated with ArcheAge, my latest MMO, I am ready to return to the world of DDO. I have a couple of questions though and was hoping you could help me out. ^_^

First, the guild I was in still exists, but the last character login was about a month ago. I want to rebuild the guild, as we have a decent boat, and just start fresh with new members. However, the GM I talked to today told me that he couldn't make me guild leader, but the successor can usurp after 60 days. Well the successor is MIA as well... so I'm stuck in a guild right now where I can't do anything but update the ship amenities. After another 60 days will I be able to usurp the successor?

Next: what has happened in DDO since last year? I've been reading a bit, but it is all so much. Any big changes? The last thing I was here for was the newest enhancement update. I didn't play around with it much though.

In addition, is Orien a good server to play on or is it dead? It seems as though DDO's population has really dropped since I last played. Would it better to transfer to a new server or simply start over in DDO? I would hate to do that as I have two characters that I love, but I'm not completely against the idea of a fresh start.

Thanks for your help!

You can join a new guild. Any server is fine but Sarlona is the hot one right now because it's the default server.

Welcome back,
Based on experience on my barbarian if you are an officer and leader and successor are inactive u can usurp leadership. No clue on the amount of time to wait tho.
We have gotten epic versions for 3BC and Necro 4, a new eveningstar pack with some great named loot/weapons and a buff to pallies, bards, and soon barbs.
Yes yes yes please stay on orien. don't leave us for thelanis. ;)
Toons are in my sig. I could probably help you out with whatever.

Wow epic 3BC and Necro! That's awesome. I wish they made an epic version of Attack on Stormreach, my favorite quest pack.

The way it works that if the guild leader has not logged in for 60 days, the designated successor can usurp and take over (the toon with a straight line in front of it). If the designated successor has been absent for 60 days, then any officer can usurp and take over the guild. I'm not sure if non-officer members can ever take over the guild.

Just to clarify timelines, if both leader and successor are absent for the same 60-day period, then any officer can usurp immediately. If leader is gone for 60 and successor gone for (example) 40, then any officer can usurp after successor has been absent for 60 days total (in this example, when successor's absent another 20 days).

For some reason the game does not tell you if the usurp option is available if you're logged in at the time. You have to log out and log in again to have the usurp option available.

Good luck!

Cool! I'm an officer in the guild so I'll just have to hope that they don't return for another few weeks. ^_^

The best DDO recap a returning player can read is simply this:

Chronological changes in the game with most recent on top.

Thanks for the page link. I feel like I have so much to catch up! I'll probably solo through a life and see what changes have been made to the game that way.

If you're looking to join a new Orien guild, my guild, the HellHawks (lv 69), has been looking for new members. Shoot me a mail in-game (LeoLionxxx or Lionfire) if you're at all interested.

Unless theirs a bunch of people that love to group up in the guild ur in, u'll be doing a great deal more soloing lol. Definitely from levels 1 to 13. Might find hits slapping your own up, 3 man an elite or so. Probably not a heal though so keep those hires stacked or byoh build. Or just bladeforged they heal themselves heh.
