Seen some shiradi builds having this on equipment list.

Just for the extra damage which seems miniscule or for additional procs ?

I have no experience with this myself, but I have heard others in-game saying that shiradi does proc off of them. Take that for what it's worth, it's the best I can offer.

This ability adds damage to every spell cast (and it scales with spell power). It does not cause more procs. The shiradi MO is to spam as many spells as possible so the DPS increase is significant.

One of my guild mates uses the lantern ring on his Pale Master. He told me it procs on every tick of his Aura, is affected by spellpower and crits, and almost no monster is immune to light damage so you can significantly increase damage (he gets ~75 per regular proc, ~150 on crits) output at no additional spellpoint cost. I'm not sure if it also works on every tick of Archon damage. Would be interesting to find out.

Ok, no procs then i guess. Didnt think about aura, that does increase it usefullness. I guess i gotta farm me one then.

I wear the lantern ring as a damage boosting swap-in option. It comes handy that it has radiance and light damage crits too. It's free damage and there are not that many good caster rings around.

The lantern ring procs once per magic missle spell (not once per missle). It only hits the original target in a chain missle.

The last time I checked the light damage itself proc'd just reward and scourge, but didn't proc empyrean magic (I never tested it with a light spell so this may have been due to the source of original damage). The lantern ring proc doesn't proc double rainbow. I haven't tested this since divine crusader was new so it's possible some of this changed but even if it did - it doesn't change my opinion of this item.

Overall, it's a must-have for a shiradi caster in my opinion, even if just reward and scourge are no longer proc'd by the light damage. Over time it adds a large amount of damage for 0sp.

Yes it definitely procs from the Archon but I haven't played my favored soul much recently so it's always possible it changed.
