It seems we don't have any idea of what the future plans for DDO are. Other than a new event and Barb Pass....we have no clue as to what to expect next from DDO.
We had a dev letter earlier this year that layed out the plans for DDO. It seems a good chunk of that has well....been Chunked. Then two rounds of Turbine staff has been laid off.
Who is our producer now? Vyvyanne (or how ever it is spelled)? A producer letter would be in order right about now.
The Natives are getting restless.

Probably because some things are better left unsaid (like DDO is already unofficially in maintenance mode). Enjoy the game while you can. At some point we will get a message that Turbine was unable to secure a licensing agreement with Wizards of the Coast and the game will be ending. What this really means is WOTC wasn't willing to give away the license for next to nothing.
If we are lucky WOTC will allow the game to continue in full maintenance mode for a few years.

And you expect someone just to rattle off a producers letter at 4.00pm on a Friday afternoon?
He was right the first time.
Tell me, did your parents always give you exactly what you asked for, when you asked for it?
Just curious.

Or worse, it could be like the Pathfinder videos.
"You see a goblin!"
"I stand perfectly still and, on my turn, slash at it."
"You're out of range!"
"I move one step closer and come to a full stop. Then I repeat my previous action."
"You slash. It slashes. You slash. It dies."
"Oh, great."
"You are now a goblin-slayer!"
"Wow. Thanks. Hooray for fun."

Does it really matter if you know what is in the pipeline?
If you don't hear something by thanksgiving or Christmas or Kwanza are you going to stop playing ? Is everyone?
You already know there is a barb pass coming next , what more is required? Shortly after that happens we are likely to get more info on what comes after . Just like the pally pass then info on the barb pass shortly there after.
I know this is the age of "WNAT MOAR!" But seriously you have info on what is next , even with threads asking opinions/feedback on the changes.

We've reached the bottom of the barrel man... I'm not yelling DOOOOOOOOM no! But, let's face it, the game is borderline P2W when it used to be a rather innovative F2P MMO back in 2009. It had ****** graphics, but they haven't improved. Do you remember the broccoli vs beholder adds? These are gone. Cheating is widespread, who's going to buy XP pots or raid bypasses when so many people have duped THOUSANDS of them? They've laid off a whole lot of folks, the new content is heroic quests with buffed mobs, nothing new and nothing fun, you either farm xp or items that'll be irrelevant the next update. Generally when some folks have a suggestion to make the game better, we're met with the annoying fanboys telling us to make our own challenge or make our own fun? We can do that true, or we can just move on to any one of the other hundreds of games who care a bit more.

DDO has tons of business merit, too bad the amateurs born into the right circles, and make the lowly decisions. Without people money is just hard to recycle metals and paper, add people and money is opportunity to make something cool.

This, mostly. Consider the rate of updates in the last year particularly, the recent content (epic-ified= rehashed), the current plans mostly revolving around revamping toon mechanics; frankly, I'd be more concerned if that's not stage-one maintenance mode.
As for communication, if you expect any official word to be anything but "all is fine" lip service, life will be full of surprises for you.

I don't think maintenance mode is a switch that is turned on and suddenly the game is in maintenance mode.
Rather, I think it is something that starts slowly and the level of "maintenance mode" continues to grow over time. My point is the process already started and the decision has already been made that DDO is not a strategic part of the future. The future of length of DDO's existence depends on one thing at this point and one thing only. Will Turbine be able to negotiate a low enough license fee with WOTC to keep the lights on after the current agreement expires? If not the game will end when the current license expires. Fortunately the D&D brand is at a low point so this might make WOTC more agreeable to reducing the licensing fee.
There are resources devoted full time to DDO and they are doing a fantastic job. The level of resourcing is set as low as possible to retain a reasonable amount of current players - not to make significant game improvements.

D&D brand must be at a low point. I recently seen some knock off Lego sets that carried the D&D brand and the things were some knock off brand I'd never seen in my life.
Having had been a Lego junky in my younger years I have seen many knockoff brands and peruse the Lego sections of the toy store anytime I pop in.
If WOTC lisenced those knockoffs then they would likely license anything.

We usually get a letter around December, then again in February (anniversary and all that), then again in July.
My guess is we will hear about update 24 in the next week or so quest wise, with that probably coming out sometime in early to mid December (my own personal guess), I think once some new quests hit lamannia (and they are supposed to be NEW), I think some of the angst will die down. Then we will have festivult and before you know it, anniversary time. And 4 months will have passed.
I used to think the DDO devs had some tricks up their sleeves to get the game going again, but I think the bean counters at WB have taken all those away. But we shall see.

Things that have happened this year which is not yet over:
3 raids
Dythwrym
Fire Peaks
MoD
Thunder holm
eOrchard
E3BC
Sable
BotForge
Haunted Halls
Long time forum request: Bard updated
Long time forum request: Paladin updated
Long time forum request: Armor made viable (and evasion splash made less dominant)
Long time forum request: S&B made more viable (could use more work IMO but w/e)
Long time forum request: Barbarian updated (work in progress)
Long time forum request: Monk splashes made less dominant (via proxy see Armor changes)
Long time forum request: End game is being widened in an obviously concerted way (better late than never)
Long time forum request: more packpack space
Misc: guild buffs updated ships revamped
Misc: Saga's added new more interesting way to get players to play more "wide" range of content
Misc: rejiggering of Balance between melee/ranged/casting to make melee more worth the damage you take.
Long time forum request: The ability to take the look of an existing armor for a cosmetic slot
Long time forum request: Capstones made more compelling (look at the Bard and Paladin and tell me they aren't temping or borderline too good to pass up just for evasion, now that armor is actually meaningful)
Maintainance mode? Whaaaaaa?!?
BTW as stated there are definitely multiple irons in the fire on the PC, that said it is actually that time of year when we should be expecting some Producer letter or another, so maybe they need a poke or two to remind...

When you suggest DDO is "dying" a lot of players get upset and/or defensive. But dying isn't dead and new development of some sort continues so the game isn't in maintenance mode either. When people suggest it's in "unofficial maintenance mode," what do they mean? That seems to cover a lot of possibilities and it's a pretty flexible and snarky attitude to hide behind. I've suggested more than once that the game is dying--and I still think that's pretty much the case--but DDO's dying may take years, I hope it does, and I think we should wait until the good folks at Turbine make some sort of official statement, which of course we will take with a grain of salt. I think the OP was basically right in arguing now would be a good time for some word--though producer's letters in the past have dropped around new year's and I think that's a small enough period of time where we can afford to be patient and maybe even gracious while we wait.

who said they were not interested in Anaurach?
we've mostly been busy discussing more "in the pipeline" things like the builds going onto Lamania and the proposed Ideas before they hit Lamania. Since Anaurach was schedualed for farther out they wasn't much reason to talk about it at all.

Maintainance mode? Whaaaaaa?!?.
It's undeniable from my point of view. Maintenance mode doesn't mean no new things - it simply means the product is no longer strategic and not worth investing to make better. I think we're there and DDO's only value to Turbine at this point is positive cash flow in the short term. Investment in the game is only done to the extent it will maintain current customers - especially the big spenders.

Not to be rude or anything, but didn't the last Producer Letter go on about "Quality Of Life Fixes"?
Have to admit, haven't seen much of this actually happen.
There may be more that I'm missing, but so far about all I can think of is that the Druid Ability Goodberry, can now actually be cast in a Tavern or Public Area.
....and that's about all I've spotted.
Why should we care what the Producers say, if we don't see it acted upon?
I'm honestly hoping that someone can show me otherwise and that maybe I've actually missed a ton of stuff, but I keep running into bugs that have been around for years, and one would think that fixing those would improve the Quality Of Life within the game.

Yes I wondered. Flipping MajMal to LoTR and no word from a producer for months sends a big management idc message.
I think the test will be level 30 and content for level 30. That should be a huge investment. So if they don't get around to it or it's only half hearted, hmmm.
It really exasperates me that they've ignored end game for so long. I mean it's a really basic question for anyone deciding whether to invest in an MMO : "what's end game like? What's the raid scene like?"
If management was taking this MMO asset seriously they would try to address those questions.

I'd agree up to a point, but the Kraken requires A$ to purchase, as do the vast majority of the new Ship Buffs.
I'd probably mark that one under Sales, rather than Quality of Life.
Unless we mean the Quality of Life of the Developers. :)

Yes, it's very secretive and suspicious.
Developers probably can't answer on all of those questions, there is a limit on what they can tell us. But, from my knowledge: next update U24 will expand DDO dramatically. New map: Anauroch. lvl cap raise to 30. Raids and many other things. And it suppose to come out this December.... At this point, it's all quiet now.
Anyways, I only hope turbine won't make poor decisions. Like, introducing new iconic hero that won't match the original class (sun elf cleric, int focus) etc.. I don't want to ask this "but.. why?" everytime there is an update.
Now.. all those Mrr/Prr, heal amp changes are alright. I understand this game has to be updated somehow, but sometimes it's just ridiculous. It's always has to be about, who gets what and why. And not, "I have great idea! Add this and add that! Yeah!!" Please take your time turbine.

level cap 30 has been delayed according to the most recent producers letter.
Turbine needs to accept the fact that raising the level cap to 30 won't help the game at this point. The should set the permanent level cap at 28 and focus on end game immediately.
This will ultimately retain more customers and we all know they don't have the resources to manage the level cap increase properly.

I would like more epified packs too, tho new ones are always more desired, the only questionable thing about adding new raids is "where are we gonna use the new shinies"? Raid loot is pretty overpowering lately.
Restless isles would make a fairly good epic pack, especially if they add a 3rd new quest, and make the pre-raid really tough to handle, even for those who can run the heroic with closed eyes.
Twilight Forge with good optional bosses where desired niche loot drops would be really cool.
Same for the SRE area, make it easy to navigate to quests/the raid with teleporter npcs, but reward those who seek out the rare spawns with chest dropping desired items.

speaking as a pretty new player compared to probably everyone here-these doom threads do bum me out whether they are intended to be doom threads or not.... I still love the game a lot and wish I could play more than I do but I mostly have a bunch of what people would consider to be gimped characters with loot generated trash... Still love playing though I catch a lot of flack from older players(not older people necessarily) he he.

I still love the game a lot and wish I could play more than I do but I mostly have a bunch of what people would consider to be gimped characters with loot generated trash... Still love playing though I catch a lot of flack from older players(not older people necessarily) he he.
I don't want to bum you out too much. I don't think DDO is going away soon. I think we are still at least a year or more from official maintenance mode. My hope is that once maintenance mode does arrive, the game sticks around for a few more years.
I have dabbled in a few other MMO's recently to find a replacement for DDO when the inevitable does arrive. So far, I have found nothing that lives up to DDO. The play style in DDO doesn't seem to be matched by any other MMO (That I have have found).
I would just like to know what the plans are for the next 2 or 3 updates....it would make me feel a lot better.

Turbine needs to accept the fact that raising the level cap to 30 won't help the game at this point. The should set the permanent level cap at 28 and focus on end game immediately.
This will ultimately retain more customers and we all know they don't have the resources to manage the level cap increase properly.
Lvl Cap Raise to 30 needs to be a vast expansion in order to be a real success.
With Story lines the size of MOTU & Multiple Raids just in the release with many more to follow.
None of this 5 quests or 2 raids in a pack
Hey, give us a full pack of a Dozen Raids to start that would be a good start point.

I agree...but look how long it took them just to create a one room, 8 minute raid and to epify 4 quests. A project like that seems like it would take 8-12 months. Not sure they have a manpower to do it.
I'd be fine with them spending a whole update on the older, dead raids. Epify them and make a few of them scale to level 30 so they are endgame raids. Add better versions of the old loot to make them worth running again. Also add some kind of raid saga with awesome rewards to encourage people to actually run all the raids again.
That would be a much quicker way to give us an endgame...now.

Never mind the fact they didn't create a new raid tossed some new mobs into an old space Yep really dissapointed with the whole E Necro as far as content. no trade able loot. haphazardly thrown together storyline with barely changes quests from heroic.
