View Full Version : Tiered rewards and making more money

Games such as Aura Kingdom have tiered spender rewards, which is a nice way of incentivizing more spending. I think DDO would benefit from a system like this as it usually gets me to spend more, and I'm sure there are people like me out there.
Also, the more I can get for my money, the more money I spend. If you tripled the bonus points and cut all prices by 20%, and had a tiered spender system I know I would spend more.
Lastly, Tera has a pretty good system where you new players can spend real money to get in game cash to gear up and almost nothing is BOP. So this is a huge incentive to raid as a FTPlayer to raid, to make in game cash by selling to p2players. It is the least P2W system I've seen, and their LFG is chock full o' people raiding.
You guys have came up with the greatest chardev system of any game I've played and I really want to see you do well. I usually never post on forums but this game has done something beautiful and unique so I have to leave some feedback.

There is P2W and P2W. TERA has a system where if you raid you can make a ton of money and gear yourself up better than the P2W crowd, who are buying the lower tiered items you are selling or making. That's a balanced p2W system.
The causual F2Ps kind of get the shaft, but that is true in any f2p game I've played.

This game, however, has a way to earn turbine points for free by playing, which those others do not. This is also an 8 or so year old game. It's doing very well for a game of that age, as evidenced by new content coming out. And the community has been pretty clear that they are tired of the microtransactions, I honestly think if Turbine tried a model like that it would simple create a mass exodus of players, not incentivize a large amount of them to spend more.

I agree that you have to be careful on how you market the store products. Some bad misteps can have bad results. Tiered rewards based on how much stuff is sold is usually a bad marketing plan. I've seen this before and it didn't give me any incentive to buy more.

Even if it was just like 5 spins of the silver/gold thingy if you spent 5 dollars more? In Aura Kingdom it usually gives you cosmetic items or spins on their silver/gold thingy like system.

you mean like astral shards that allow you to reroll ad nauseam in the daily dice?
Got them.
If I wanted to play casino games I would not come to DDO.
Not signed. P2W is evil on so many levels.

How is a tiered reward system P2W by giving out spins? Let say you were going to spend $20 in the store to get a +3 lesser heart. With your $20 purchase you get 5 free spins of the gold thingy. If you spend $35 instead, you get 10 free spins. You could buy shards with the extra TP and spin a lot more if you want, but I'm talking about an extra incentive to get to a spending tier in a non P2W type way.
The spinning things are definitely not P2W. They give you ****. The best thing they give is free xp, and without it you just have to play the game regularly to get XP so is not P2W in the least.

Because those spins give real game experience, tomes, xp pots, and other things that actually can give you a leg up on other players. THey are not cosmetic. I have gotten a +6 upgrade tome of wisdom and 15,000 xp points just the other day. That is NOT ****. I've also gotten a LARGE amount of slayer pots, xp pots, healing pots, jewels of fortune of all sizes, and smaller tomes as well as a boatload of xp just off the free once a week vip spin and daily silvers.
Getting the xp alone the more you spend is most definitely pay to win.

I think turbine has forgotten the micro part of a lot of these things if things were much cheaper people would buy more 10 people buying at an 800 price point is better than 3 at a 1500 price point.
Lots of things are like this and should be evaluated but things like classes and races should be the expensive stuff convenience items should be cheaper.
