I reported the Threnal issue a couple of days ago, got some in game help and when that wasn't successful, called CS. This hotfix is coming out quickly! Thanks for the fix. Now, what will be the end result? Am I going to get credit for the progress on the Threnal chain I ran? I would love to be able to pick up from where I was and move on. Thanks again

Even the devs should get to have some sort of home life. I don't begrudge them waiting until a traditional work day to implement a hotfix. Of course I am at work and couldn't play right now even if there was no hotfix. So it works for me.

Well, it's simple business 101, higher % of players play at x time to y time. We have way less people playing at this <> time, let's do it then to minimize disruption to way fewer customer's.

You realize thats most of american midclass workers right? have you ever been a bartender? a server? a gastation worker? a manager for any company? mabe even a CEO? CONGRATS! Thats life for ya. But i do understand you'd like to sympathies, most of us like this game and its something we like to do in OUR time off. Personally, I don't care when the downtime is. I'm happy they're actually doing maintenance and trying to keep the game running as smoothly as possible for us. Been VIP since 2009. Not really planning on ever going f2p or premium. My personal way to support them. I lurve Turbine.

We will be replacing the Mabar Festival of Endless Night with a new event, currently scheduled to debut sometime after the release of Update 24 (not this next update; the one after it.) The new event is likely to make its debut after the new year. We're not yet ready to provide details about the event, other than the hint provided in the Producer's Letter from July, but we can say that the event's items will be the items from Mabar. At this time we have not been able to recover the Mabar festival in a way that addresses the issues with it and allow for its return.

Regarding Crystal Cove, we're planning to run the event this year with the new tier of loot around the time that Mabar would normally arrive. The plan for the future is to have the new event run around the time that we used to run Mabar.

Mabar won't be coming back in the old form. They couldnt fix the lag.

I am too lazy to search thoroughly thru the forums now, but according to what I can remember reading in several posts Mabar is borked and has to be completely redone. They were not able to do so for this year Halloween and will re-introduce Mabar on another occassion when ready.

So do not expect Mabar to return any time soon(tm).

Well, my dad collects old hardware in his retirement leisure activities. He actually has several 12 and 16 inch modules of ferromagnetic memory cards, with 144 and 576 bit memory capacity respectively. That has been a lot back then in the era of the 50ies mainframe machines... 2nd generation computing (using the first transistors instead of vacuum tubes) is a very interesting topic for the hardcore nerd and something to turn off any conversation for nearly the rest of mankind ^^. Man, I miss the ddo servers open already ;).

So whatever Startrek showed in the late 60ies was fictionally invented in the 50ies - by techies and writers that catered to the SF 1-cent-booklet crowd. I happen to have read some of that 50ies stuff and it´s astonishing what these guys then envisioned we have realized today. Microcomputing, mobile phones, the internet. Well, some of the things came somewhat different from what these writers envisioned. but hell, they were talking about powerful computers as big as pocket watches - I now only say Apple. They envisioned (and showed on Startrek 10 years later) handheld communicators.

We are still short of warp drives, teleporters and cloaking devices. But give mankind some time, I am sure some Startrek infused genius will invent these too.

I happen to have read some of that 50ies stuff and it´s astonishing what these guys then envisioned we have realized today. Microcomputing, mobile phones, the internet. Well, some of the things came somewhat different from what these writers envisioned. but hell, they were talking about powerful computers as big as pocket watches - I now only say Apple. They envisioned (and showed on Startrek 10 years later) handheld communicators.

We are still short of warp drives, teleporters and cloaking devices. But give mankind some time, I am sure some Startrek infused genius will invent these too.

Cloaking devices are close.

There is the light deflection cloak that exists and then there is the radar reducing airplane technology materials.

According to the untold laws in computing for every fix there will be two new issues, so here you go.

DDO is old and meanwhile patched and fixed several hundret times. So it´s save to assume that somehting will be broken after the hotfix. Hopefully it will only be something minor.

Doing the updates during normal working hours is maybe not the absolutely LEAST disruptive time, but it's pretty low on the scale, since most of us ALSO have jobs with normal working hours.

Hard to keep good people if you ask them to come in a lot at 2:00 am in the morning. And no one does their best work at 2:00 am anyway, so mistakes are more likely at that time, and troubleshooting skills will be impaired as well.

Seems to be a wise business decision to me to do updates and hotfixes during normal working hours.

He told me how in 1962 they were so excited because they actually had 8K of memory and they connected one of those big phone cable things(switchboard operators fromthe 1930 through 1950s) to access it.

Yes, that is 8,000 bytes of memory.

My first computer had 16k of memory, and no hard drive (saved my files to a cassette tape).
