View Full Version : What is the best XP per minute of questing?

As I grind through multiple epic reincarnations I am wondering were the best XP per minute of questing is in the game? For example LoD EH takes about 6 min and gives about 40K xp where Spies, which many like to do for XP, takes 30 minutes and gives about 120K XP. XP numbers inexact of course due to the many factors effecting them. Give those round numbers but that would mean that LoD gives double the XP per minute of Spies. What do you all think about this, what quests and at what difficulty have the best XP per min in the game? I would also note that optionals almost never give good XP per minute unless they are optionals that are not really optional, in other words you get them just by running through the quest (wiz king, von3 etc....). Thoughts?
Thanks.

Through a mirror of darkly: 10 - 16 min quest with 48k base exp + any bonuses. I get 98k. People don't run it much tho... for silly reason that they don't know it :D

I don't know what is "best" but temple of vol gets my vote. It is pretty amazing XP/min in epic these days. Very short and easy. And it has a very quick 10k optional.
VoN 5 is huge XP/min if you have a group that knows it and can zerg it quickly.
VoN 3 is still way up there as is Wiz king.
I think the devs have done a good job of balancing the XP...it's hard to point out "the best". I think there's quite a handful of quests that have comparable top XP/min.

My fastest completions are a 36 second EN Demands and a 1:36 EN Outbreak.

I see EN xp runs on Khyber of Von3, Wiz King and Spies in the House.
If you know what you are doing that can be a cool 200k+ (more with tomes, pots etc) even on EN in about 30-40 mins.
My fastest completions are a 36 second EN Demands and a 1:36 EN Outbreak.
Yep, those are the best exp /min. But since the exp is kinda low, the best one goes to wk finishing in 5 minutes for ~120k exp (with the appropriate pots).

What Goes Up had it's xp buffed a couple updates ago. It is now more xp than Von 5 and can be done solo.

If you only use 5% xp pots ("free" from challenges), 5% shrine and keep a master's gift equipped, you can sustain around 4k/minute for hours and hours. This of course goes up quite a bit if you buy actual xp pots.
Here's a few of the daily circuits I ran last time I farmed up karma:
Circuit 1
---------
- VON3 (DDoor, re-acquire, Key to Eveningstar)
- Impossible Demands (recall to Eveningstar)
- Outbreak (Re-acquire Impossible)
- Overgrowth (Sell/repair)
- Thorn and Paw
- Druid's Curse
Time: 54 minutes
XP: 233k (4315/Minute)
Circuit 2
---------
- Lords of Dust
- Rusted Blades (Recall once)
- Death Undone (Recall twice, enter demonweb)
- Trial By Fury
- Deal and the Demon
- Reclaiming the Rift (Key to Eveningstar)
- Don't Drink the Water
Time: 57 minutes
XP: 225k (3947/Minute)
Circuit 3
---------
- Offering of Blood (GT back to zawabi, re-acquire, teleport to House P)
- Big Top (Re-acquire, house teleporter to Kundarak, sell/repair in Fens) Gate 1: Straight (Blue = Yellow X)
Gate 2: Left (Green = White Triangle) Right (Yellow = Red Diamond)
Gate 3: Right (Orange = Green Circle) Left (Purple = Yellow Square) - Fathom the Depths
- Claw of Vulkoor (Teleport to Deneith)
- Spies in the House
Time: 54 minutes
XP: 212k (3925/Minute)
There are several more circuits that can be assembled from Gianthold, High Road, Shadowfell, Necro4, and (I assume) 3BC. Plus WizKing, of course, which I usually skipped because I mostly solo-farm karma. And heck, Unquiet Graves is pretty good too even counting the 3+ minute run to get to it from Impossible Demands. Who knows, maybe even Haunted Halls.

Spies, which many like to do for XP, takes 30 minutes and gives about 120K XP.Spies only gives me 100k with all optionals, and takes around 12-13 minutes. If you skip optionals you can get it down to around 7 minutes. As best I can tell, I should be able to run it with all optionals in 10 minutes, but I always seem to get slowed down somewhere. Not in the same place each run; there are 3 or 4 places that can slow me down, and usually at least one of them does.

fastest i have done spies on eh was 11 min with optionals average is 12-15 min i'm sure i could get it down to 10 if i was racing or had more people
wizking with 3 people is under 10 min with all optionals
through a mirror can be done in under 5 min with 2 people that know what they are doing

Too bad Mr. Cow isn't posting this information anymore.
I'll add Von 4 to the quests that others have mentioned. Very fast invised, especially if you have two people to split up. Has a couple easy to get optionals on the way and traps to disable for +30%.

Daily 20 %, Ship 5% ,Voice 5% and 50% pot, top four for solo imo, I'd do these daily.
EN Mirror 137+19k in 7 mins ( faster with dd and better burst damage ) - 22.3k/min
EN 2 Toed Tobias 81+24 in 5.5 mins - 19.2 k/min
EN Trial By Fire 65k in 3.5 mins - 18.6k/min
EN Spies 125k in 8 mins ( or faster ) - 15.6k/min
Trial by fury is good too if you don't mess the jumps and don't hate Demonweb.
Stormhorns, Necro and Prison round is cool.

Circuit 1 issue: druids quests are horrible base xp and not really worth it even with xp pots, fast yes worth no
Circuit 2 issue: There is alot reseting required to get a good web setup to run straight to web quest and not to lose time, trial being the only effecient xp/Min one is the only one worth being run in web
Circuit 3 issue: offering has a way to long run and fathomg and claw take to long due to wild area, if they had better base xp to negate the run they would be better.
Best xp/Min currently in game imo is necro4 slayers.
I have my own xp route that consists of many quests and some people here pointed out some of those.
Simply put getting xp to fast is also not the good solution when you need to constantly look at the tr timer thing to expire

The issue about this calculation is mostly bound to the fact that every player can run quests in a different time frame.
For example, i can do spies in 5-6 minutes or faster purely zerging, but i miss on vandal or trap bonus that way.
I can use a box to get traps or ask friend to do it for me while i smash crates on my way and take 8 minutes average but gaining way more xp that way.
All xp/min calculations are entirely different on approach and player.
I could post my routes and xp/min but they would not project the truth for many players due to my skills being inferior/superior if you compare to others.
Thats the real issue and thus the main reason i dont like xp/min speedsheets as my fastest completition time might be slowest for some or the other way around

Ran mirror in under 5 mins once. 4 min 50 something with 2 guildies. Its the best xp in the game for sure. Apart from that and the obvious wiz king, von3 and spies:
Von4 if u are with another person and are both able to invis.
Von2 theres a trick to skip 90% of the ooze side. Also not bad xp if ur with multiple people.
(Already said) vol is 4 mins, rest of necro 4 is about 5-8.
Friends in low places, the entire quest can be invised except for the boss fight. Around 40k-50k on a repeat.
End of the road might be good not sure how much xp it gives actually but u can invis 75% of it.
Cannith crystal u can summon a barb hire and pike for 30 secs.
Too bad Mr. Cow isn't posting this information anymore.

This is one of the most overlooked easiest invis zergs in the entire game with two or more people.

Some random thoughts from someone who has done the 12 past lives:
1) Impossible Demands is by far the highest XP per minute in the game. There is no getting past that. 27K for a minute is a lot. But the time to get to it needs to be considered. I only ever did it when I was short on time and wanted to use the last 5 minutes I had to get some XP. But think about that: 5 minutes right? For a one minute quest? That's really only 6K per minute so its not a great rotation item.
2) I see people claim 5 minute Wiz Kings. I call shenanigans. The only way you can do that is with 3 superb players moving flat out and not making a single misstep. I averaged about 6-7 minutes a tower during my runs. And being solo I had to multiply that by three. Furthermore, if you really want to maximize XP you have to kill the Wiz King last because optional XP is lowered if you don't.
3) And speaking of the solo thing, bear this in mind: the ER completionist path is a lonely one. 12 lives is 80 million xp. If you can find even one person who will grind out that much xp with you in the same half dozen quests for a year, you will be doing well. Expect to solo the majority of it. Which means 5 minute Wiz Kings will be a rarity. They will almost always be 20 to 25 minute Wiz Kings.
4) Necro IV slayer is indeed great. It is half million XP for an hour or two of work (with a pot). The problem is it is one shot. ER does not reset slayers, or rares, or explorers. You only get them once. It is still worth doing, but it is not repeatable.
5) If you only have an hour or two to play a night you are going to find that the easy to reach quests are going to be the winners. VON III and Spies are trivial to get to -especially if you can teleport. That makes them hugely attractive. Wiz King is harder to get to but it has to be in the rotation because its hard to beat 150K for 25 minutes. Even so, I would skip it if I was short on time. Two Toed Tobias is indeed great XP but it's about 5 zones to enter the quest which is ... tedious. Demon Web quests are fantastic and I would have farmed them in a heart beat except for that one stupid bridge to the right which is never there. I only discovered Through a Mirror late in the cycle. It's a pain to get to but not bad time wise.
6) To speed things up, make sure most of your gear is ML 20. I only swapped a very few pieces through levels -mainly con / false life belts, caster sticks, and my level 25 gear from Gianthold. Keeping your gear organized by level in your character bank will save you a significant amount of time.
7) Don't take 27. If you are farming low level quests you risk taking an XP penalty at 27.
8) I might get reproved for this, but do it all on EN unless you are a super nuker that can do it in the same time as EH. The difference in XP is truly negligible and does not make up for the increase in time.
9) Do your least competent EDs last. If you are going to be a sorc, get energy critical *first*. Don't be tempted to grind out the useless ones first. +3 to skills for 9 lives is garbage compared to +9% energy crits.
10) And one final thought: by my 8th or 9th life I was sick of the routine. So at 26 I started doing sagas instead. It took much longer but it restored my sanity. Plus it lets you skip level 20 and most of 21 on the next ER. That gave me the Epic Toughness feat right away on each new life, which was a nice cushion. The sagas alone got me all the way from 26 to 28 even without 3BC (Prove Your Worth and Precious Cargo were hills too far for me).
Good luck.

Sometimes when I need a quick 5 to 10k to top off a destiny I enter Von 4 and just kill the 3 elementals in the first hall, jump out and reset and repeat. Takes about 30 seconds

This not true anymore, unless you are running heroic quests for some reason, as long as the modified quest level is 20 or above there is no xp penalty.

On normal that can be plowed red alert style zerg in 5 min, np. You average 6-7 min - so its not hard to imagine people with fast movement able to trim a minute or two off, with either 3 people each doing a tower, or 6 people doing towers in groups of two.
The wiz king can be prepped for the kill if that person gets there before the others get to their bosses. Theres no red named wraiths on normal like there is on hard and elite.

No need to prep, just kill him and hang out until everyone else is done, the quest doesn't end until you pick up the phylactery.

VoN 5 is huge XP/min if you have a group that knows it and can zerg it quickly.
You can 4 man this it is insanely fast and easy for a group that knows it on EH. Do not need raid bypasses either, just never run VoN6.
VoNs 3&4 are pretty fast and easy. Same 4 man group can probably run EH with all optionals pretty fast. Cakewalk solo on EN and not much harder on EH.
I like the first two parts of Web of Chaos -- Lords of Dust and Servants of the Overlord.
I also like Devil Assault although it takes a long time. I'm not in such a hurry to level but when I can get VoN 5 in it runs close to 450k XP, more if you have a 50% pot running (I'm usually on 30%).

Circuit 1 issue: druids quests are horrible base xp and not really worth it even with xp pots, fast yes worth noThat's a fair point for overgrowth and thorn & paw, but outbreak is extremely fast (<2 minutes with practice), worth around 20k, and is right there, no wilderness to run through. Druid's Curse was adjusted to be good xp, making its 7-minute run time worth it.
Circuit 2 issue: There is alot reseting required to get a good web setup to run straight to web quest and not to lose time, trial being the only effecient xp/Min one is the only one worth being run in webI never reset, I just jump off until I port to the center if the map isn't "good." It might add 30 seconds, tops.
Circuit 3 issue: offering has a way to long run and fathomg and claw take to long due to wild area, if they had better base xp to negate the run they would be better.Fathom is good xp, though you're right that it's a hike. Still, even with only a 5% pot it's somewhere in the mid-40s xp for less than 4 minutes. Claw isn't particularly good xp, but it's so incredibly close to fathom (jumping off the top of the pyramid and floating down to it) that it's hard to not include it if you're already doing fathom.
Offering is very far, granted. But it's around 50k for maybe 10 minutes total, including the run through the wilderness, and it's super easy.

I only discovered Through a Mirror late in the cycle. It's a pain to get to but not bad time wise.I've been told that the teleporter guy sends you directly to the quest for free if you've already completed it once.
Even if he doesn't, after you complete it once there's a "back way" you can access to get to it quickly, though not as quickly as teleporting. My understanding is that this back way (where you jump up somwehere and open a gate?) is for when you want to get an entire party there quickly where some in the group haven't completed it yet, and thus can't teleport for free.
I do not have first-hand experience with either of these methods, but was told both in a previous xp/minute thread.

If you did the quest once, you can either go directly there by the contact, or talk to the magic mouth at the gate to thrill of the hunt to open that gate if you got a party which needs to get through. The Magic Mouth only works if you completed mirror once.
My circuit during EPL farm was: Spies, von3, wizkingx2, OoB (keeping lfm up for the first three so I have 3 when starting wizking, since spies and von3 are good solo xp), then mirror. Ultra zerg teams skip auralace, but if you got 3 or more, one can start the auralace fight while the others do the remainder of the quest.
If I have time, I also run break in the ice+WGU. EN WGU is about 25-30 mins for me, but since I need about 17 for spies other people should be a lot faster. Break in the ice isnt really worth it on its own but since its on the way to WGU its a quick xp grab. Invis trackers trap isnt too bad either.
