Sooo... it's sort of odd that after the many years of playing DDO that I had finally decided to craft my first greensteel weapon. Mainly because my main alt has been a monk so I never crafted him anything. Well, I unfortunately found a poor crafting site while trying to craft a Lit II sword. I made a POS and an AIR supreme shard but it said nothing about combining the two shards together before putting it on the sword (just that it said to put both shards on and I tried to do it 1 at a time). So... duhhhh.... after some research and a few other crafting sites, lesson learned and now I know.

However, I do not know how exactly the yellow dopant works before trying to fix this mistake. Does it destroy everything or can I take off the bad tier 3? Is there a way to fix the bad tier I made without destroying everything? I just need to replace/take off the third tier to put on the new fixed shard(s). I guess I'm hoping for the best here but probably will get screwed in the end with what I will get back. Just a bit miffed since I have a ton of 1 and 2 ingreds but I don't have a lot of 3's.

Thanks for any and all advice.

You can't just remove the Tier 3 changes. It strips it back and you recover some of the ingredients used. Wiki has more details.

I have come to not trust DDOwiki lately. Too many of the pages are incomplete or out of date now. People aren't as dedicated to keeping it up like they used to 3-4 years ago. Actually, that's pretty much true for many DDO fan sites. I forget what I did a Google search on, but when it came back with fan sites, the newest one was from 2013 and it went backwards from there (with many around 2010 when the last entry was made).

If you are getting into green steel crafting I strongly recommend that you hunt down the DDO Game Guide. It is a downloadable program created by a player (forum name began with a V from the guild Infernus Sus iirc). While it has not been updated in a while it is without a doubt the best crafting planner for green steel. It walks you thru the steps in a nice, simple manner.

The yellow dopant will destroy the green steel item that you have used. Make sure that you have another signet stone - you will need it to craft another blank. You should get back about half of the ingredients you used in creating the original item.

Ask for someone with a magic bag of 10k shroud mats including 10k stack of cleansers.

You're welcome.

Oh yea, advise him to knowingly use duped ingredients. Great idea.

Greensteel hasn't changed much in the last couple years, so old sites are still relevant. As for the dopant, as already stated, it will give back most of the raw materials but expect some loss. No way around that now. You won't get the shards back, but will get a cleanser if you used one (just FYI, I doubt you have done 20 Shrouds already).

The barter UI now tells a lot of information if you hover over the icons. You have to know which recipe to look at for the info, but it's better than no info at all. Still, for my crafting I use this thread. I think the layout is more intuitive:

(It also have Stone of Change recipes)

Make sure that you have another signet stone

Using the dopant will return the signet stone used to make the item.

As part of the install there is an updater to run also, which will update this to version 3.6.1.

I have used this planner for all my Greensteel crafting and never had a problem. It is clear and fully detailed.

I use it in conjunction with http://perfectweb.org/ddo/crafting/base_crafting.php? this site which I use to see what options are available, and then get the recipe from the game guide above.

The game guide is excellent.
