Can someone explain to me why my Arcane Archer has melee power and not ranged power when he never uses melee weapons and only ranged weapons? And how or what do I have to do to get ranged power instead?

Looking at the U23 release notes (http://ddowiki.com/page/Update_23_Release_Notes), there appear to be only a few sources of Ranged Power right now: Versatile Adept (Harper), Zeal of the Righteous (DC), Adrenaline (FotW), and Master's Blitz (LD). Turbine has promised to add more in the future, so let's hope that's slated for U24.

At least on paper, Harper's versatile adept offers a very tempting melee and ranged power of 9% at T4, something both TWF and archery are lacking currently.

You could also go the route of Int to hit/damage and combine it with Know the Angles which functions less like Divine Might, and more like a permanent 1.5 x stat mod to damage since you can keep it up indefinitely with Ranger's blue bar. At, say, 50 Int, that's +30 damage constantly on (as opposed to +20) - and an even better synergy with Rogue splashes for trapsmithing. Not a bad deal.

The only catch is that Int isn't easy to raise on a Ranger, and freeing up the APs for all of this could be problematic.

I'm looking forward to investing in Harper on my pure arties and INT Assassins for obvious reasons. I'm not sure how much to invest into it on my other chars, for which INT is a secondary or tertiary stat. Versatile Adept is useful to everyone, but if you're not INT-based you have to waste APs on some filler first.

I'm not logged on but where on the AA tree is there Melee Power?

harper stuff

Don't forget that harper gives you an extra favored enemy, too. I'd say harper is almost mandatory on a ranger.

think he meant on a character sheet. he didnt mention what level, but Epic levels, and core abilities of epic destinies give melee power. so he'd have melee power if he was over 20 regardless of what class/weapons he used.

ranged power is said to come in another update, wouldnt say the next since there wasnt any mention of it being next on the list, but as its already implemented in some ED's and the harper tree, I cant see it being too hard to put in. most likely once they have the #'s from the changes to melee ability.

Yeah, for sure. You could splash as deeply down as 15 Ranger and still have the full favoured enemies you would as a pure class, which is pretty nice :)
