Just analyzing the two based on face value, without a lot of maths behinds it, I opt for Mortal Fear as the overall more effective DPS option. The reason is that the force damage is effective on everything in the game aside from Helmed Horrors, and the 5% chance to cut non-boss HP in half can provide a gigantic, if veiled, boost to DPS. Aside from Helmed Horrors, which are healed by force damage, the general force damage is nice, and the ability to cut down a magma brute or other extremely durable mob at a fairly rapid pace is a huge bonus. It can be incredibly effective when working with cleaves and improved precise shot, shooting through several enemies at once.

At epic levels, level drain seems to be less important for melee as it is for casters to lower saving throws. Draining a couple levels doesn't hurt that much against CR 25+ mobs, maybe a couple dozen HP, and I'm envious of their regeneration rate. The fire damage might be very nice with a rapier or other weapon with a broad crit range, but its somewhat situational as fire damage is much more commonly resisted than force, and it only procs on a critical hit. Many end game quests are heavily populated with enemies that are immune to level drain, like constructs and undead, so that aspect is also situational.

I have a couple thunderforged weapons for different enemies, since the first tier is pretty easy to make. I have a fire-based bow and a negative based bow that I use depending on what I fight. Even the first tier weapons are very good. I'm still raiding twice a week to upgrade my weapons, but I'm very happy with what I have at the moment.

If you plan on building one TF weapon, I'd finish it off with Mortal Fear, personally. You can always start working on a secondary weapon to use against enemies that your first weapon isn't ideal against. The raids aren't a limited time feature. Unlike the McRib, I don't question my decision-making afterwards and I keep coming back a couple times a week for more.

I'm still highly annoyed that shadow armor heals undead as they mob around me. For the expenditure, I shouldn't want to switch back to Black Dragonscales every time I have to fight undead, which is more often than not. In hindsight, i wish I never wasted resources on this armor.

Crippling fear.

Whats funny is in a classic turbine fashion, they nerf neg lvl weaps harshly(due to the dps from health drops) then almost immediately add crippling fear which does more dps in an almost identical fashion.

Wasted dev time combined with ****ed off players who enjoyed taking the neg lvl route to increase dps on EE(only dif it competed with straight dps), couple of months later its eclipsed by something new, welcome to crazy world.

Mortal fear.

For the side proc damage crippling flames is better. However Force damage is more universally useful than fire.

Main proc:
- Crippling Flames, 2 neg lvls 5%:
the main problem with neg. levels is that it doesn't do any DPS if the neg level proc doesn't remove more health than you already did damage before the proc. It's only useful if it procs as early as possible when hitting a mob.

- Mortal Fear, damage equal to half mobs current HP, 5%, helpless damage applies:
or in other words - if you hit something with mortal fear it's either dead or pretty close to it

They both work on the same targets (normal trash up to orange named).
Simplified there is not a single mob in the game where a crippling flame proc does more damage than a mortal fear proc.

Hi,

Mortal fear is very nice because of its versatility.

The proc affects things which cannot be neg levelled, and the additional force damage is a decent amount which affects almost everything too.

Thanks.
