View Full Version : A bug fix or two is seriously overdue!

Can i start out by saying i mightily enjoy playing DDO and am continually impressed by the quality of game and updates.
However there are two serious known bugs on the mac client that should have been addressed many months ago.
Walls, floors and corridors turning into solid colours after about an hours play can make quests unplayable, and only the first digit of damage dealt is being displayed? (These bugs have been making life difficult for over a year.)
Neither problem is unsurmountable but as a paying VIP customer i feel some response from Turbine is now required.
I have reported this as a bug and through customer feedback without any response.
Much love,
Hannse out.

don't hold your breath. ladder bug. still going strong since the game was started. multiple character login having to restart the client, been going for years. just to name a few.
don't get me wrong. i'd love to see them fix this stuff once and for all. they actually had the multiple character swapping bug fixed for a little while, then rolled it right back in on a hotfix.
oh, and i USED to be a vip. not paying the salaries of devs who can't do what they say they'll do.

Same goes to target bug, entrance bug... and more. I used to be a VIP myself, and I still love this game. However, seeing how turbine respect me (us), I dropped it 2 years ago. Please don't take me wrong, I understand how difficult it might be to fix a bug.. but why is it taking them over 3 years to fix it. Who got that much time to waste, we want to enjoy the game, buy turbine's product and fully support their business to keep this game online... Yet, who would possibly care. Each devs get paid monthly, 2 weeks... they don't need to work any extra(?).
I personally work for the squire enix company. I have very good connections in the game industry.. I know some folks who previously worked for turbine. From that I can tell you, turbine can do a better job. At least communicate with us when they have a time. Take things seriously... and not "well.. lets just ignore this bug because not a lot of people taking about it".

Both of these are mac known issues. And they are not going to get fixed. Sad but true.
Colored walls bug - https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/429384-Black-screen-within-dungeons
I can't find the post on the number bug but you can bypass the issue by switching to n+n+n format in your UI settings.
Yes, they are both very annoying.

I know of only 1 workaround for the Mac and DDO.
Elevation helps with this fix.
Clear a area about 2 feet around the Mac Device, remove any attached cables, preferably near a open window.
Throw Mac out window. then go buy a PC.

+1 for excellent tech support!
and they ARE fixing bugs and unspaghettifying the code, they just aren't yelling like a spoiled brat seeking attention when they do.

Thanks for your useful advice, however;
question: How long would it be before the PC crashed, died of some nasty virus or became obsolete?
answer: Before i got it out of the box!

i appreciate that bugs can be incredibly difficult to fix and take time away from Devs to create new stuff, but some communication from turbine either in person or in the forums would be nice.

Apple is flawed and horribly so...I once made an Apple user cry when I attached a two button mouse to her machine (true story)...PCs aren't perfect but at least we can admit it.

Seriously? We're still doing the mac vs pc thing when what we should be doing is celebrating the fact we can all play DDO together (providing mac users can stand the graphic bug, natch)?
Won't somebody think of the children?
Why oh why oh why are we fighting and mocking each other, when we should be fighting and mocking people who still play World of Warcraft?

You almost have a good point. Almost. Macs do not have the market share to make them a worthy target of much malware, but viruses on pc's are more a matter of user habits than anything else. As for obsolescence, there are players out there who are rockin' DDO on pc's that are 7+ years old with os's that are no longer supported by the vendors. A product is not functionally obsolete as long as it continues to do what you need it to do. As for crashes, my own Win7 system has not crashed once since the time I got it, and it has seen a lot of use due to gaming, school, movies, anime, music, app installs, app uninstalls, etc.
The point is that the same thing that limits your Mac's exposure to malware is the same thing that limits your Mac's exposure to DDO fixes. Marketshare.

PC Devotee.......My main computer is a 2006 iMac and is only now reaching the end of its capacity to provide a reasonable service not too shabby considering it has only had one major malfunction in that time? I don't doubt that a top grade PC would be great for gaming but my life aint just about games!
But i agree Apple is flawed. It has become a humungous corporate leach and is making hardware and software mistakes to challenge even the most ardent of fanboi's.
much love

a salient point but when you pay for a product (DDO) it should be reliable on either platform should it not?

Doesn't matter at 1/3rd the price you could use the same workabout process on the PC 3x.
at that rate you would still have the most current machine for less money even if it is cheaper quality and sloppier OS.

Realistically, yes.
Practically.. perhaps.. but tech support will always be with the masses, not the minorities.
it is likely there are no strong programmers for DDO that have a solid Mac background. Focus has always been on PC in the gaming community.

But the 3 black boxes of wires and whirring things would not make me happy when i look upon them!

The cat obviously does not play DDO.

Bash was patched for the Shellshock vulnerability by yesterday. Most if not all Linux distributions have the patch in their repositories. Apple still has not released a patch for OS X.
This is a serious security vulnerability and Apple has dropped the ball big time and remains silent on the issue.
DO NOT use your Mac OS X machine on an unsecured WiFi until Apple has finally released a patch for OS X. I would just keep Macs offline entirely until they do.
edit: manual patches for bash on Mac OS X have been posted but require that you have XCode installed to build the patched binary:

... not for the average user ...

Endquote.
Yeah, I was thrilled when I first saw that. Then I found one that didn't work, and hit the bug reporting tool ingame, and guess what. It didn't even load. Since then, they've managed to break that fix. All ladders are rebroken. Yay. Sure, they USUALLY work, but they usually worked before. And no, they haven't fixed the bug reporting tool either.
I'm convinced the devs are doing what's easy. New content is actually not that hard, especially with no new graphics, but even new graphics isn't that challenging. Updating or fixing existing stuff is harder. So, no updates to cannith crafting in how long? I don't expect to see any cannith crafting changes, EVER. When was greensteel crafting last updated? Before I joined the game, I assure you. Adamantium crafting? Not likely. Bugs? Especially in code that's almost a decade old? That's hard, not gonna happen.
Meh. They're lazy, or cheap, or both. They can live without my cash.
