Am curious to know if it is possible to level a toon from 1 to 28 by running S/R/E only ???? Has anyone done it yet ????
I gonna try with a 1st life toon first. Let's see how long it takes :-) ...... Probably gonna be a very boring journey to cap !

Yes it has been done though it might have been 1-20 and not to 28, I can't seem to find the thread about it now :(

I don't remember anyone ever saying they did 1-20 but I remember a rev saying there was more than enough xp in wilderness zones to level to 20.
I don't think there is enough epic XP to get to 28 though.
-------
Oddly enough I was just thinking the other night about making a toon that only ran Explorers to 20 , gear included.

It's 100% possible to get from 1 to 28 on s/r/e, you can do it on rares alone, it would just be very boring.

I assume you are talking about the xp for rares never falling past a certain amount ?
Yeah I'm aware of that. But was thinking more on the lines of a more "natural" approach.
Head in get explorers , clear for kills , pick up rares in the trip around kind of thing.
Kill till the last kill X reward and move on kinda thing.
-------
So just started this evening.
Even if you skip the korthos story line you still have to do heyton, storehouse , crystal and collab to get to the wilderness. So ran each on casual.
Have to run hips to get to restless isles and I think that is the only other quest you have to do to get to an explorer area.
Argh nope will have to run the evening start flags to get to kings forest.
Any others I'm missing ?

I've done 1 to 20 with S/R/E only and it was extremely boring. I hardly run S/R/E anymore as a result. I just grab the explorers and call it good now.

You can greater teleport to restless isles. If your character can't you can always have a friend teleport you.

Well, the idea for me is as mentioned above ... Max out slayers in each wilderness area, get all explorers and rares on the way .... Use gear, etc. only which you find in chests.
And yes, I had to run the Korthos story line too, did it on casual as well to keep xp to a minimum.
Restless Isles can use greater teleport and for Eveningstar we have a key or can use the hall of heroes.
Very possible but very boring slayer pots will be your friend that said I do,tend to get chunks of xp for my tr character using them by chunks I means 100's of thousands of xp

you can port to the soaring otyugh from your ship if it has a high enough navigator without doing hips.

Well you can give it a shot. Stock up on slayer boosts though--might be able to get them as challenge exchange. Always PUG it--invite people in constantly to help. Get to know all the maps and rares. While at it, consider remaking the wiki maps like that nice one that was made recently for epic orchard.

How much repetition on rares did it take?

guess the search tool sucks
or i suck searching
however iirc it was a post showing a screenshot with a lvl 20 toon with 0 favor
since i quit played from motu release(i joined when it was prepurchasable iirc) to october 2013 i guess the post is somewhere in this timeframe
saly i can't remember where i saw it, was on another pc by that time...xDDD
i can recall perfectly that the player skipped korthos, because had to run the quests to access the wilderness, went to restless isles with airship and...iirc there was another wilderness which didn't touch, can't figure which (maybe the subterrane or searing heights, or maybe )
btw the wiki is some of the 7,5k kills (king forest is the most clear example that pops into my mind) so maybe without xp pots it's possible to hit 28

With all the explorer areas I believe it is possible to earn enough XP doing only explorer areas.
As others have pointed out Korthos Island needs 3 quests to be completed to access the explorer area. I remember someone doing and explorer only and also avoided activating quests which meant avoiding some explorer points for the walk ups.
Now something like this would be best done in a group. Many explorer areas kill counts depend on the size of the party.
I like to use explorer areas to fill in XP by doing the Explorer points and pick up the slayers and rares. I also use the Explorer areas to spend some down time when I want to earn XP or kills stuff and either have limited time, or my time may be interrupted or there simply isn't anything I want to run going on.
I think it could be done, but I think without a group to keep the spawn rate high each run it might take a bit longer.

So day 1 had me run Korthos Island, Cerulean Hills as well as Waterworks .... I ran Korthos Village on casual to gain access to the island .... Now I am thinking I should have skipped Korthos completely, but well .. now it's done. Day 1 got me to level 4. Waterworks was painful as that darn spider rare wouldn't show up for ages :-)

Not too much. There is plenty of XP but you have to make the choice between maxing out the slayers and repeating rares. The Fens was especially painful since there are only 119 kills per pass.

A 1st life character needs 8,500,00 XP to get from level 1 to 28. According to the above linked Wiki page wilderness areas can give over 8,019,379 XP without repeating rares, so with XP boosts and repeating rares it should be theoretical possible to get to level 28 with wilderness areas only.
The only problem (except from time and finding the will to live while doing it) may be the level distribution of the wilderness areas, but even if you are over-level for an area you can still get some XP.

Shadow, what build are you using? I HOPE it can stride fast.
It would be interesting to theorycraft a wilderness runner. I imagine 0 trap skills, solid range power (really fun to pick off mobs from a distance), high spot skill, burst DPS for rares (although in general wilderness mobs and rares are not that strong)--what else? Feels Ranger/druidic from PnP perspective anyway.
BTW 3BC heroic used to cap at 1500 kills. Not sure if this was changed.

I rolled a ranger, i enjoy using a bow and if i need to can TWF .... As you said, 0 trap skills, maxed out spot. Got manyshot by now which is nice ^^ So far it's been working well. Yes, 3BC capped out at 1500 slayers.

So, managed to get through my 2nd day .... Did Tangleroot, 3BC, Searing Heights as well as Sorrowdusk Isle. That got me to level 7.
Searing Heights was a blast. I actually had someone join my S/R/E lfm and that guy knew that wilderness area by the back of his hand ... It helped so much and we got it done in no time. Was great.
3BC gave me a headache. There are like two or three explorers I didn't manage to find and I am still short a whole bunch of rares. I got so tired of 3BC that I moved on :-)

Sounds fun and stress-free! Keep posting! When you get to the Sands, use the LFM since a lot of people do the slayer runs. The rare loot that drops there is very good.
Ataraxia includes a spa so you can post a pic chilling out there.

Woot, I managed to handle another day of S/R/E .... Spend all day in Red Fens ... Had an LFM up the entire time and again got lucky and some folks join me to help out :-) Need another 1200 kills or so to max it out and then move on to Ataraxia. Also, I took level 9.

i read the same thread a long time ago and the guy did it from 1-20 when that was cap. he maxxed out his slayer before moving on to the next wilderness, got all rares and explorers and actually ran around the map not using some of the tricks to get fast kills like Rats and Caravan or Spider rare.
hope the guy got a medal for it.

Alright, got my 7500 kills in Red Fens and got 70K xp for that ... It seems like as if the xp bonus affects xp gained in wilderness areas as well.
Anyways, took level 10 and gonna move on to Ataraxia now.

Often wilderness fights have decent pauses between them--the deepwood line might be better for you than the AA. Especially exposing shot.

I went AA, never played around with the sniper one .. Will have to give it a try at some stage.
Day 4: Finished Red Fens as well as Ataraxia today. Also managed to finish half of Sands by now. Got me enough xp to take level 12. Again had a couple of helping hands today, which is always appreciated :-) I skipped Restless Isles ... I might have to reconsider and go back and get those done too, all depends on how much xp I got once I am done with Sands and Gianthold. The Isles are up to level 14 so I still got time ^^

Relics drop in the wilderness rare chests in Gianthold. Very handy.

the KF chain is so you can enter the underdark (prerreq to acces KF is just being level 20), and then you need to run the Sschindylryn quests to get into the demonweb, but i think that's it
edit: You might want to check if you need to run the reaver's reach flaggin quests to acces the last tiny wilderness area, i can't remember (save those sventusk gems and the like!)

Wow, managed to get Sands done faster than I thought. Had again some helping hands :-)
But Sands has way to many gnolls around. I maxed out gnolls at 3000 whereas undead and scorrows didn't even get close to 1000 each. Somewhat that ratio is wrong if you ask me ... Anyways, got it done and took 13. Gianthold next. That will be 3000 kills in each camp to max it out ....

GH might be brutal not a lot of density of mobs, iirc in there so. Thank goodness you can reset the wilderness area's now(I think? Right?).
Good luck on your quest & journey! Cheers! :P! :)! :D!
Also what server are you doing this on btw? I am curious/just wondering.
Note: I am taking a self imposed exile/vacation/break from DDO for a number of reasons so.

Managed to get 2/3 done of Gianthold today ... Need round about 1000 slayers in each section to max it out. Am 45K short of level 15 ... Moving along nicely so far ... Managed to get a couple of monster manual deeds along the journey .... Nice side effect :-) .... Guess I'll finish GH tomorrow, take 15 and move on to Orchard.

I cannot find the post I made, but yes is already been done at least rather I have done it to a level cap of 24.
There were a couple of moments I need a few points of experience to level up and gain access to the next one so my journey was not entirely in the Wilderness Areas. As I stated this has changed with the introduction of a couple of new Adventure Areas and resetting the level of another. I had to run a level 5 and a 15 quest or something like that.
It would have been fine and fairly easy accept for looking, waiting, moaning, complaining, waiting some more, for the last one or two rare encounters in each level to come up.
If you spend an hour in each Adventure Zone currently you can earn about 3 1/2 million XP, two to three hours in each zone 5 1/2 million and five hours plus in each zone about 8 1/2 million XP.

One thing I've found doing the slayers in this zone, it is most profitable to do a run from the start, to the caravan spawn, to the rat spawn and then to the first entrance area of the graveyard. With no spawns you pull in about 33 kills in 4 minutes, with both spawns you pull in over 100 kills in around 5 minutes. Much more efficient to do these, recall and reset if you are interested in kill counts.
Good luck to ya :)

Cheers
