View Full Version : Epic Feat "Ruin": what affects it/ How to boost it further.

I recently swapped some feats around, and picked up Epic feat: Ruin. I'm very happy with it. I picked up a Impulse Lore stick with a 22% crit chance. I've also added spellpower: force to over 300. average hit is ~3300 dmg. Crits are ~6200 dmg, then every so often I get a "super crit" for ~10k damage.

My main question is what causes the "super crits" and how can (or if I can) boost the frequency of them. Also does the Lore Crit stack with the archmage enhancements to crits?

If your regular crits are around 6200 then the 10k ones are most likely on helpless mobs. If you want to see some higher crits you can add sense weakness twist and arcane supremacy from archmage.

Lore item does stack with archmage enhancements, other than that I think the fvs crit chance enhancements would stack as well.

Yeah, those feats that add a 1% chance, no, not worth it. I didn't think the "super crits" were from helpless mobs, as Daggertooth was beating on me pretty good when I hit him for 10K the other night, so I checked and have Arcane Supremacy already... those 10K crits have to be coming from a supremacy. Funny how when it is a 1,2 or even 3k hit, you barely notice the crits but when it is a 3k, 6k, 10k, hit it pops out at you. I'll have to look at that sense of weakness twist next.

Sense weakness only adds more damage vs helpless mobs, so it depends if your build can make mobs helpless reliably enough. Also Energy burst should take priority as a tier 4 twist, unless you run in draconic.

A good way to use Ruin is to launch a magic missle wiz pl clicky to get pretty much guaranteed supremacy, then Power word: stun to make a mob helpless and then smack it with Ruin, at least that's what works well for my wiz.
