View Full Version : Why doesn't Bladeforged come with Shadowfell Collectors Edition?

I wasn't aware of when the expansion came out, and was now thinking of buying the collectors edition to get all the races and the other things. However it looks like bladeforged doesn't come with even the collectors edition. So if I wanted all four races I'd have to buy the collectors edition AND buy bladeforged, which makes no sense.

I really hate the entire pre-order system, it rewards people to pay money ahead for a product they haven't seen yet.

Bladeforged is the only iconic hero based in Eberron. So there is no "lore" connection to the other icnonic heroes and the Shadowfell expansion.
I'm not commenting on the business sense of not putting all iconics together in one pack, just saying that from the lore background there is foundation, much less necessity to do so.

bladeforged was pre-order bonus, and hence shall not be included within the same bundle after release. Would be rude to people who pre-purchased at full price, wouldn't it?

I'd rather complain that turbine take 4 combinations of classes and races that already exist and people already payed for, twiddle 3 parameters, give them new names and sell those again as iconic races.

You preorder for the goodies, not the content.

That is the entire point of the pre-order system, and not just for turbine, but for every pre-order game out there from Pokémon to Grand Theft Auto. It does several things for a manufacturer such as giving them a trend where their product is doing well so ship more copies that way and less to areas that show lighter interest as one example. There's also a formula to determine general interest based on pre-orders, not a hard and fast future prediction but a general guide to what to expect that helps them determine how long a production run to do.

Just as our money is important to us, businesses money is important to them. And more and more businesses are running on shoestrings. Reducing the financial risks of new products is critical for them to remain in operation. So the pre-order thing is here to stay until it fails to be helpful to them. And they are willing to reward customers who are willing to pay up front and help them gather the information they need, it's fair.

Pre-order bonuses aside, I think you get 2000 Turbine points with your purchase (if I remember correctly) so you can use those points to buy the Bladeforged race if you want (that's what I did).

This.

BF was only included for those that pre-ordered in order to give those people value for their pre-order.

Which I think it totally fine. Just because the races came out at the same time doesn't mean Turbine is obligated to include all of them in a shadowfell bundle.

That's kind of the whole point of the pre-order system. It can totally suck when you pre-order a product and it turns out shoddy. But Turbine's in the business of making money and pre-order bundles are a means of making people pay for a product now rather than see them wait and buy it on sale for the same effect. Additionally, we can hope that someday there will be more iconic classes, and there is no reason to assume that those iconics should be bundled into the Shadowfell bundle. Bladeforged thematically stand apart as an iconic race from Eberron.

im assuming that is why you failed to understand why preorders are exactly that. you want the goodies you need to preorder it. if not you need to buy it like everyone else. it would be unfair to the people who did a preorder if they released it again.

Hey! leave iconics alone!

For the low low price of [money and a pack of quests I don't actually like], you get characters that can bypass the fun bits about creating and levelling a class, force you into taking one level of class you might not want, and then get straight into the unfun bits of DDO where EDs are what matter more than base build, and then totally have fun not being able to TR until you hit L28 because reasons!

What's not to like?*

Ahem. Needless to say... I don't have any iconics. :)

*none of this intended as a criticism of anyone who likes iconics, shadowfell, epic in general. I'm sure someone will take it that way, but its just supposed to be silly. So chill out.

I was very skeptical at first. However, I had need for a L15 trapper one time and I made a Shadar Kai, because my main trapper was L25. I had allot of fun for a few quests then set it aside. Long story short I ended having fun with 3 different Shadar Kai stop gap filler builds. All 3 are very fun to play.

That experince got me to make a Sun Elf last spring. I have 3 of these well (all different) and the main one is super fun to play.

I have 4 BFs, but I prefer the Morninglord most, Shadar-Kai, then BF. I have 3 PDKs, but less exp. playing them. So I have not labeled these as fun, yet.

Without spoiler info. I can say there are allot of advantages to Iconics starting at L15 and some neato synergies. They grew on me once I began playing them.

EDIT ~ The main con about starting at L15 is you don't have the favor for the extra bag and bank slots. It's sort of a drag to have to run favor for more storage space at L15.

because bladeforged are so badass that they literally collect their own standing of cash. Plus the other iconics kinda suck And wouldn't sell as well.

lmao

and starting at level 15. "Welcome to D&D <insert character name>, lvl 1 bladeforged adventurer! While the other heroes go out, see the world and help people with their problems, you stay at home and wash dishes, because you were constructed as dishwasher. You slowly gain experience by washing dishes. After washing 15,000 plates, and losing manufacturers guarantee, it is now your turn to join the fight."

got bladeforged by preordering, never used it. like burp knight. just my feelings, but i think iconic do not seem to fit in ddo seamless.
