View Full Version : New Outfit
I was jlooking at the new pirate outfit in the store on my BF, and did not see the "not currently available on this character".
Does this mean that the pirate outfit can be used on WF/BF as well? If yes and anyone buys it I would love to see a screenshot or just to hear if it looks good.
Thanks in advance.

It can indeed be worn by Warforged and Bladeforged (I didn't get a chance to get a shot of a Warforged wearing one, but having seen it I can say that you'll have a warforged torso, such as the low v cut on the chest area). I'll try to get a picture of my warforged tonight wearing one to post up tomorrow unless someone beats me to it :)
It is worth noting for Bladeforged that this pirate glamour is some powerful glamouring-magic, and does cover up any spikey protrusions that may have been sticking out of your shoulders.

Is it a cosmetic armour kit? If so, it should have a preview button... (you may need to close the store window after pressing it to see the temporary preview on your character, depending on your display resolution).
edit - oh, I see it does not have a preview button like other cosmetic outfits do...

The preview button isn't currently working for it (will be fixed later on). For the time being we did get shots of the front/back (https://www.ddo.com/forums/showthread.php/445935-Pirates-vs-Ninjas!-New-Cosmetic-Outfit-Available-For-A-Limited-Time!) of it to post up, but I didn't grab any warforged pictures.
ty, Tolero. I will get one for sure.

The Female version would of look better if it had the Male shirt with the Corset.

Why is the glamour/cosmetic gear always somewhat cheap looking? I know it's not a limitation of the skin or the engine. These look like a barmaid cook and a farmer.
Why can't we get stuff like this? I mean, we are paying for it after all.
I mean hell, if you want, we have people in game who are 3D Max Designers and other tools, let us submit our designs around your templates. Get the players involve, open up a little. Player involvement is like the #1 rule in a MMO. Look at all the addons people do for WoW and ESO, huge communities. There is no technical reason not to do it here.
Non-DDO examples.

Agreed. The Female one is far too plain to be paying for it. But at least it looks like clothing and not bondage gear like half the other kits do.

Also, just to clear up something that's probably only confusing me. Is this new outfit here to stay, or is it a limited time release? I don't have the TP at the moment. :)

Yeah, those shirts just look silly when they're on the skin layer like that. They really needed an overlay to make them poofy the way they're clearly meant to.

But at least it looks like clothing and not bondage gear like half the other kits do.
It never ceases to bewilder me how DISTURBING the male-female cosmetics are in this game. Players have mentioned it a lot over the years, how the costumes are overwhelmingly bulky and clunky for males, and skimpy and bondage-esque for females.
It's not that those costumes shouldn't exist- every person, real or virtual, will have their own style.
It's that the bias is so disturbingly overwhelming.
Would be nice to see things like Highlander skins for males and graceful field plate skins for females- and also, yes, non-heavy armor skins that look good, but aren't bondagey or too overly exploitative to appeal to the average, survival-minded, female adventurer.
Example in point, this swashbuckler skin.
Agreed. The Female one is far too plain to be paying for it.
Why is the glamour/cosmetic gear always somewhat cheap looking? I know it's not a limitation of the skin or the engine. These look like a barmaid cook and a farmer.
I actually like the plain, subtle appearance of the female costume; It fits with the typical sailor-turned-swashbuckler styling.
It does still look pretty cheap, though. You'd think an adventurer would manage a bit more bling. I sure know MY adventurers are wearing all sorts of gloves, bracers, trinkets.. and where's the scabbard? Why is there never a scabbard? Are we all sword swallowers?
Also, why can we manage bondage gear, but in a game with robes already implemented, not a single proper dress or skirt?
The male skin looks like a [cheap] gigolo.
Try and argue with me.
Then look at that pose he's making.
No doubt about it.
While I'm not saying Princess Bride, PotC, and Three Musketeers should be our ONLY references on swashbuckler appearances, they're definitely the most prominent in modern conceptions.
Maybe take a page from those books?

Ah i like the pirate outfit, I planned on making a swashbuckler somewhat soon so i might get one.
It certainly doesn't work for my current toon though lol.
Oh yeah the female one that is, I'm not sure if i would like the outfit on a male char :P.

I just wish they'd give us cosmetic armors of the drow armors/clothes.
They are hands down the best clothing/armor designs in the entire game in my opinion.
Give me one of the pretty dress's those priestess' wear for my Ranger and I would be the happiest girl in the game.
Other than that, better and more unique outfit cosmetics would be awesome.

Basically, a lot of us players have come to the conclusion that most of the devs [in charge of armor designs] are massive perverts.
LOL! Too true.

As the game aged, characters are becoming more self sufficient and the need for hires has become less.
The male hires have become airship builders at the House Orien fleetyards. The females have started turning tricks. It's a harsh world...

I just wish that, on all races, the outfit looked more like real clothing and less like a tuxedo tee-shirt kinda deal. Right now it looks like footie pajamas painted to look like pirate-ish.

Ya know, the more I look at it, the more it look like you mixed up the genders for these outfit. take the male V-cut, it's not linear at all, and the up-curve seem like it was meant for breasts. And a male wearing a loose V cut should have more of a U-ish looking cut instead of that almost Y looking cut.
anyone else bothered by the V cut odd look on the male?
edit: maybe it'S the leather jacket's fault

Well I wish like armor, that it was separate from the character model. This way you could have a collar that had dimension, instead of a smear of texture on your clavicle.
Hopefully sometime down the road we get more cosmetics worth purchase, and at 1/10th the cost in tp. Or at least 1/5th.

EeeeeeeEEEeeegGAD! No thanks!!
I'm so tired of "Skin tight" Cosmetics... It's like a naked WF with Body Paint.

That's where you're getting confused.
Note I said 'sailor'.
If you're coming into swashbuckling from the other side [and in THOSE clean, trimmed clothes? Yeah, not coming in from the rough and tumble side] then you still hold to certain proprieties- such as corsets.
Also note that corsets such as the one displayed actually CAN function as armor. The leather in the front is stiffened and acts as an abdominal guard.
I mean, it's not plate mail (!)-
But it is functional, and does fit with the style.
In other words, there is at least one scenario where the design does make perfect sense for a swashbuckling toon.
Whether that scenario is one that fits any of your swashbuckling plans is another matter-
Aye, Dread Pirate HAL?

When I heard about a new pirate outfit, I thought "Sweet! Something flamboyant to go under that green hat with the feather!"
...then I saw the pics...
I realize not all pirates looked like Jack Sparrow or Capitan Hook, but this is a fantasy land game. Who wants to look like the deck hand? I suppose I should actually thank Turbine for yet again encouraging me to keep my money.

The hilariously sad part is that once again, they already had some great looking pirate outfits on NPCs that people would spend money on. Probably puts the total list to the triple digits if it wasn't there already. I feel like I should compile a list with pictures and make that into its own thread.

Oh, yeah. If cosmetics look more like these non-DDO examples, I'd buy a lot more of them. As they are now, 95% of the cosmetics are no improvement over random loot gen armor.
So there are people in game who are 3D Max Designers and there are people who are other tools? What, if I don't use 3D Max, I'm a tool? :P
